Mysterious Walk on A Foggy Day
I live on a mountain. The estimated terrain elevation above sea level is 211 meters. I wonder, is that considered high? It might not be very high, as some people occasionally walk to town from here.
When I use the Google app for walking directions to the downtown post office, it estimates it would take about an hour and 15 minutes, covering approximately 5.5 km. It's tougher than I had imagined. I had never walked downtown before. A few years ago, I used to live in the downtown area, and I remember the steep climb back to my place from the main area. However, my current location is at a higher elevation than where I used to live.
Almost every morning, except for very cold winter mornings, my dog and I experience a mysterious foggy atmosphere outside our house. During these times, visibility is greatly reduced, and the world around us is shrouded in mist.
Usually, we can't see much when it's misty and foggy. However, a few hours later, I usually see the sunrise, and the misty fog gradually dissipates. I like foggy moment because it makes me feel like I'm standing among the clouds. However, I prefer not to drive in such conditions.
The other day, as we were about to go for our morning walk, the fog suddenly thickened, even though the early morning fog had almost cleared. As we walked along the road, all we could see was the sun obscured by the dense fog. My dog appeared a bit confused, but he was excited to explore the foggy landscape. I managed to capture some captivating foggy photos during our walk. The Blomidon cliffs in the distance looked particularly striking, as they were partially obscured by the fog, and the ocean below was entirely concealed by the mist.
In Hokkaido, Japan, there are many beautiful lakes. One of these is Mashuu Lake, affectionately known as 'Kiri no Mashuuko.' 'Kiri' means fog, and 'ko' means lake in Japanese. This lake is perpetually shrouded in fog, which gives it its nickname. There is a curious belief associated with Mashuu Lake. If you see the lake on a clear day, it's said that you will marry late in life. While this phrase may sound unusual, it was a way people used to tease each other about their marriage prospects in the past. Despite this superstition, Mashuu Lake remains a mysterious and beautiful place. The Ainu Indigenous people refer to it as 'Kamuy-To,' which translates to 'God's Lake' in the Ainu language.
Returning to the Blomidon cliffs in my area, there is a legendary figure named Kluskap, a giant who was said to have once sat atop the Blomidon cliffs. I can easily picture him in my mind's eye, especially on foggy days like this. When the fog rolled in, Kluskap would seem to sit on the clouds.

霧の日の神秘的な散歩
私は山に住んでいます。海抜からの推定地形の高度は211メートルです。それって高いのでしょうか？多分それほど高くないと思うのです。ときどき歩いて町まで降りて行く人を見かけます。
Googleマップを使って町の郵便局までの距離を調べてみると約５、５キロでおよそ１時間１５分くらいかかるそうです。思ったより過酷でした。ここから町まで歩いたことはありません。数年前、町に住んでいた時は、家に帰るときの坂道がきつかったのを思い出します。現在住んでいるところはそこからさらに高い位置にあります。
寒い冬の朝以外はほぼ毎朝、家の周りが神秘的な霧に包まれます。霧がかっている時は辺り一面が霧とミストに包み込まれます。
たいてい、ミストと霧がかかると周りがあまり見えなくなります。数時間経つとだいたい朝日が登ってきて霧が少しずつ消えていきます。雲の中に立っているような気分になるので、私は霧がかかっている時間が好きです。ただ、霧の中、車の運転をしたくはないですが…。
先日、朝の犬の散歩に出かけようとした時、朝の霧の時間はとっくに終わったと思っていたのですが、突然霧が濃くなってしまいました。道路に出ると、濃い霧の向こう側に太陽の陽が見えるだけで、すっかり霧に囲まれてしまいました。私の犬はちょっと混乱していましたが、霧の中の散歩を喜んでいるようでした。霧の中の散歩中に何枚か写真を撮離ました。いつも見える景色の中の崖も霧に包まれ、海が完全に霧で見えなくなっていたのが印象的でした。
北海道では、たくさん美しい湖があります。人気の湖の中に、霧の摩周湖で知られる摩周湖があります。ニックネームの通り、常に霧に包まれている湖です。摩周湖にはもしも晴れている摩周湖を見てしまったら、婚期が遅れるなどという噂話があります。今ではそんな表現をすることすら失礼なことだと思いますが、昔はそんなことを言ってお互いにからかったりしていたようです。そんな噂話がある摩周湖ですが、本当に美しい湖です。アイヌ語では摩周湖のことを、カムイトー（kamuy-to＝神の湖）と、呼ぶそうです。
この地域のブロミドンの崖の話に戻りますが、グルースキャップという大男の伝説があります。グルースキャップはブロミドンの崖に腰掛けています。こんな霧の日はグルー酢キャップが腰掛けているのが容易に想像できます。霧に包まれると、崖の先に腰掛けたグルースキャップが雲の上に腰掛けているかのように想像してしまいます。
庭のバードチェリーの木が霧に包まれています。
裏庭も霧に包まれていますが、ひまわりに少しだけ太陽の光がさしてきました。
ドュードが、散歩の時間だと言っています。

なんとなく怖い雰囲気がしますね。
町の方は真っ白です。
いつもの野原も真っ白です。
すると、突然霧が晴れてきました。
霧の下に少しだけ見えるのはブロミドンの崖です。巨人のグルースキャップが腰掛けているように見えますか？

母方の祖母の家が山の中で、夏休みや冬休みにそこで過ごすのが大好きでした。でも、買い物などはやはり不便ですよね・・
スティーヴン・キング大好きです！そうですね、まさに映画の始まりのシーンなどに出てきそうな風景ですね。
車だと下るだけなのでほんの５分〜１０分で買い物できる町に着くのですが、アプリで距離を見ると遠いですね。便利で歩いて買い物できる距離に住みたいと思って町に住みましたが、日本ほど便利でもないですし、税金や家賃も高く、騒音もうるさいので、思い切って税金も安く、静かな町から外れた場所に引越しました。快適な部分と大変な部分と半分ずつです！
