The Return of Winter and The False Spring

in Amazing Nature4 years ago

Woke up this morning to the return of winter. So I thought I would head outside and get a few pictures while the sun was out.

Here is a shot of the snowy trees and the beautiful blue sky! The calm before the storm. :)

As you can see it looks like we got an inch or two. As I sit here typing this, it is snowing furiously. We are forecast to get another 3 inches or so before it lets up later this afternoon.

Temps tonight are forecast to be around 10 degrees F. I guess the idea of sitting outside on the patio will have to wait a while longer. :)

Hard to believe less than 48 hours ago I was out on a sunny false spring walk at Whychus Canyon Preserve in nearly 60 degree F temperatures.

A couple shots of one of the rock formations with snow capped Black Butte in the distance.

Looking west up the canyon.

Some of the rim rock on the opposite side of the canyon.

A telephoto shot of Mt Jefferson, and one of the many houses that line the opposite side of the canyon.

Another rock formation and some of the lichens attached to it.

So here is to the return of REAL spring next week. :)

Photos taken by me, @oldmans, with a Nikon D3300 and some Lightroom post processing.

Thanks for looking and enjoy your day!

Ohh wow, temperatures are alternating fast at your place 😉 .. But ut is such a beautifulpphoto documentation of the walk 👍 .. The weather on earth will go even more crazy during the next decade I assume.. I am already wondering about the summer this year 😁

Thank you @adalger! Things are definitely changing climate wise. All one can do is get out when you can, be prepared and make the best of it. :)

Nice ones. The tree on the last one was thunderstruck?

Thank you!

Yeah, I've heard trees struck by lightning can smolder for quite a while and burn themselves out from the inside.

I am so ready for spring myself, but at least winter looks pretty.

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

We got a little more overnight so I guess I'll pull out the snow boots (AGAIN!) and get out for a walk in the woods. It is pretty, but I thought I was done with winter posts. lol.
