Hello rodent lovers!!! Today I bring you a little post where I share a curiosity, I started with Mongolian gerbils of "golden" color, these are known as: (Golden agouti) I am dying of curiosity to discover how it is that from 2 adults of this color I reach a point where I have some black? others are red-eyed albinos! Of course behind all this there is a biological explanation that we were taught in high school! remember that theme of morgan to get the white-eyed fly? unintentionally something happened with my mongolian gerbils! XD😅🧠🐹

These are the parents who began to procreate and procreate in an uncontrolled way xD obviously it is normal in rodents, once the ecology teacher explained to me that the smaller the animals are, the fewer children they have, and he gave us an example: "rat "You can have more than 20 babies in a clutch, but an elephant can only have one baby! There is an explanation for this: the attention to breeding by parents in large animals is very active, breeding is never abandoned to maximize their growth and survival! a mouse abandons its young a week and out of 20 only 5 adults arrive! it all boils down to evolution! You know that I work in a pet store and well I can do a little "cheating" hehe so it caught my attention to see how many clutches were needed to reach different colors!😍🤣🙈

For me, the best pet rodents are rats, and following them, the Mongolian gerbils are excellent pets because they live about 4 years and give a lot of fun, and obviously the most important thing is that they are very docile and do not bite! you can play a lot with them, and of course they are cute! Continuing with the theme of genetics: the "character" is what reflects the side that we can see of a gene, or several genes! all the chromosomes that carry the genes of a gerbil is called "genotype" and when the environment intervenes in that "expression" it is considered in genetics as: "phenotype" for example: (we can say: the GENE that determines the " color" of the gerbil is DOMINANT! This expression is summarized as phenotype since it is the manifestation of the gene in the animal! It sounds complicated but it can be summed up in that of these two golden-colored adults I can get a black gerbil! xD😅🤣🔍👨‍🎓

I do not want to make the boring topic but to summarize I needed 20 crosses to get this gerbil that is "golden" with "black spots" after 33 crosses the totally black gerbil appeared, wow, it is something that took about 4 months, the gestation of the gerbils It is a bit different compared to that of mice, first time female gerbils are difficult to give birth and only have 4 pups maximum! actually they don't have many offspring it was something i found out in my "experiment", i also noticed that the female eats the first gerbil sometimes! I have no idea why this behavior, I also noticed that both the male and the female eat their own excrement xD I tried to find out why on the internet and I didn't get anything!😲🤔😅

I discovered that gold is not very dominant in a certain generation, let's say in the 40th because golden gerbils never appeared again! and I had more black gerbils, I was already infested with black gerbils! I would like to clarify that "these animals are for sale" so I don't do anything wrong with them! well after some crosses the white gerbils appeared, here they appeared with red eyes and some with black eyes! From crossing 50 it was crazy because I couldn't control the experiment, spots appeared, combined colors, suddenly they were all white and I had to cross a gold one to continue creating other colors! throughout the experiment I achieved a total of (7) different colors! I didn't have a guide I was basically doing this blind!!! I wanted to live the experience trying, although there are already pages that teach you in detail how to get each color!🤣🤓🐹

Previously I created a post to show why we should buy a gerbil as a pet so I don't want to delve into the subject, I would like to give you some advice that I felt that with this experience I learned to know much more about this curious species! there are those who say that if you want to buy a gerbil you should buy several or else they will get frustrated since they are "gregarious" animals that live in small groups!! This is false!!! in my crosses I kept some separate and every day I gave them affection and I never felt an "abnormal" behavior, when I tried to join him with another group they attacked him!! so there I saw that the animal was happy alone! Of course he didn't feel alone because I was there with him to interact! then I saw that they can be raised like a rat!😬😃👨‍💻

Something that I do observe is that they are very nocturnal, they spend more than half the day sleeping and are much more active at night! in the rats let's say they can walk around there awake during the day! you know why??? ADAPTATION!!! I learned that we can adapt these rodents to go from a nocturnal to a diurnal habit! and we can do it when they are babies!! interesting, right??? they have no diseases, they never made me sick, or they made me sick! without a doubt it all depends on our level of cleanliness! if we clean and take care of the place where they live then they will not contract any disease!😋😋

the most important thing is that they are very docile and do not bite!
