The theme of this post was based on an interest in the information presented in the post "Old and Forgotten River" by @alfonsoalfonsi (https://hive. blog/hive-127788/@alfonsoalfonsi/eng-spa-old-and-forgotten-river-viejo-y-olvidado-rio), with which I recalled some stories from my parents and grandparents of the beauty of this river located in my city, called "Rio Viejo" and its surrounding areas, as well as its importance as a source of fresh water and a place for recreation, for its birds, marine species, vegetation and beautiful mangroves.
As part of the information gathering, I spoke to several young people and adult contemporaries in the area and was able to verify that unfortunately many do not know about this river, and others believe it is a lagoon because of its low flow and pollution at present.
Como parte de la recopilación de información, hable con varios jóvenes y adultos contemporáneos de la zona y pude comprobar que lamentablemente muchos no conocen este río, y otros creen que es una laguna por su poco caudal y contaminación actualmente.
For this reason, I went on a journey of several kilometres along its banks, doing one of the activities that I like the most, learning and enjoying nature!
Por esta razón, fui a realizar un recorrido de varios kilómetros por su rivera realizando una de las actividades que más me gusta, aprender y disfrutar de la naturaleza!
I am welcomed as my hostess by a pretty Acacia with its intense green leaves, as a sample of the varied and beautiful vegetation that awaited me, full of colours and diversity.
Me recibe como mi anfitriona una linda Acacia con sus hojas verde intenso, como una muestra de la variada y hermosa vegetación que me esperaba, cargada de colores y diversidad.
Its branches are adorned like a Christmas tree with small, beautiful and perfect yellow and green velvety-looking girths.
Sus ramas están adornadas como arbolito de navidad, por pequeñas, hermosas y perfectas circunferencias amarillas y verdes de textura aterciopeladas...
Walk along the Costanera Avenue, located between the Simón Bolívar and Diego Bautista Urbaneja Municipalities, starting at the latter, among transmission antennas, trees, and vegetation characteristic of these terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. On the left side of the road is a section of Venezuela Hill, which has been used for private urban development.
Camine por la avenida Costanera, ubicada entre los Municipios Simón Bolívar y Diego Bautista Urbaneja, iniciando por este último, entre antenas de transmisión, árboles, y vegetación característica de estos ecosistemas terrestres y acuáticos. Teniendo como vista lateral izquierda una fracción del cerro Venezuela, que ha sido utilizada para desarrollo urbanístico privado.
The first stop is by a rocky crag with a striking saffron colour that stands out in the landscape, like a silent watchman on the river bank, resting sheltered among the branches of the Avicennia germinans
La primera parada es por un peñasco con un llamativo color azafranado que resalta en el paisaje, como vigilante silencioso en la orilla del rio, descansado cobijado entre las ramas de la Avicennia germinans.
Getting closer I get a better look at its tiny white flowers, visited by a bee and other insects, which suddenly take an interest in me...beware, beware..... best is to move on.
Acercándome aprecio mejor sus diminutas flores blancas, visitada por una abeja y otros insectos, que repentinamente se interesan en mí, cuidado, cuidado, mejor es seguir adelante.
I continue and the contrasts of colours are more striking, this time in a romantic way at the end of a branch some delicate fuchsia flowers brighten up the landscape, accentuated by the radiant sun.
Continúo y los contrastes de colores son más llamativos, en esta ocasión de manera romántica en el extremo de una rama unas delicadas flores fucsia alegran el paisaje, acentuado por el sol radiante.
A few small spikes of Cenchrus ciliaris , popularly known as cadillos in my country, trigger my laughter as I remember the pranks at school when we used to attach them to the clothes of the classmates.... fun and innocent children's games.
Unas pequeñas espigas de Cenchrus ciliaris, popularmente conocidos como cadillos en mi país, desatan mi risa al recordar las travesuras en el colegio cuando lo usábamos para adherirlo a la ropa de los compañeros.... divertido e inocentes juegos infantiles.
My curiosity was directed towards these small plants, and I felt amazed at such beauty..... very close by were a bunch of Cyperus odoratus with its attractive golden colour, coexisting with other species with spikes such as Miscanthus sinensis and various purslane with small flowers forming a tapestry of brightly coloured shades.
Mi curiosidad se dirigió a estas pequeñas plantas, y me sentí maravillada de tanta belleza..... muy cercano se encontraban un ramillete de Cyperus odoratus con su atractivo color dorado, coexitiendo con otras especies con espigas como la Miscanthus sinensis y diversas verdolagas con pequeñas florecitas formando un tapiz con tonalidades de alegres colores.
Miren estas Evolvulus alsinoides con pequeñas y preciosas flores azulada y, la Alternanthera philoxeroides , muestras de las diversas expresiones y dimensiones de la espectacular de la naturaleza, muchas veces desapercibida por su tamaño.

Also of note are abundant Crowm flower with their soft violet flowers, and delicate design, they can be the inspiration for flowers of refined designs, very, very beautiful.

The sound of the birds becomes more intense, accompanied by movements of the branches of the trees, sudden flights of herons and other small species, which are still present and living in this area.
El sonido de las aves se hace más intenso acompañado con movimientos de las ramas de los árboles, vuelos repentinos de garzas y otras especies pequeñas, que siguen presente y viviendo en esta zona.
Unfortunately, there are segments that are almost dry, others with turbid and stagnant water, with solid waste left in an irresponsible manner ..... Even so, the trees have survived these conditions, being resilient, very resilient, accompanying the "Rio Viejo".
Lamentablemente se aprecia segmentos casi secos, otros con agua turbia y estancada, con desperdicios sólidos dejados de manera irresponsable....aun así los árboles han sobrevivido a estas condiciones, siendo resilientes, muy resilientes, acompañando al “Rio Viejo”.
A bridge near a group of mangrove trees allows passage to a private property on the other side of the river. I take the opportunity to get closer to the riverbed from another perspective, it has not been easy to approach because of the wooded vegetation and uneven terrain.
Un puente cerca de un grupo de manglares, permite el paso a una propiedad privada al otro lado del río. Aprovecho la oportunidad para acercarme más al cauce desde otra perspectiva, no ha sido fácil aproximarse por la boscosa vegetación y el terreno irregular.
Two different landscapes appear before me, on one side of the bridge, the riverbed diminished with semi-stagnant water and some mangroves, you can see and feel the effervescence of the insects fluttering in the water.
Se presentan ante mi dos paisajes diferentes, de un lado del puente, el cauce disminuido con agua semiestancada y algunos manglares, se ve y se siente la efervescencia de los insectos revoloteando en el agua.
On the other side of the bridge, a more optimistic image of the river and its banks, with a happy ending. However, pollution and indolence in the protection of this river is evident and predominant.
Del otro lado del puente, una imagen más optimista del río y su rivera, de final feliz. Sin embargo, la contaminación e indolencia por la protección de este río es evidente y prevalece.
I take these contrasting images to share with you, the "Rio Viejo" that refuses to die, an example of natural resilience, which deserves to be known.
Me llevo estas imágenes contrastantes para compartirla con ustedes del “Rio Viejo” que se niega a morir, un ejemplo de resiliencia natural, que merece ser conocido.
Finally, as a nature lover I share the call of my dear @alfonsoalfonsi, for the care and conservation of nature, and I hope that this post will serve so that the new generations, and also the not so young, have information about the existence of this river that is so close to us and is part of the history of the city.
