Saludo nuevamente en el día de hoy a la hermosa comunidad Amazing Nature. Hoy he vuelto acá para compartir otro post que habla de todas las sorpresas que nos puede dar la naturaleza, algunas muy buenas y otras no tanto, ya verán.
Greetings again today to the beautiful Amazing Nature community. Today I am back here to share another post that talks about all the surprises that nature can give us, some very good and others not so good, you will see.
A diario salgo a mi solar a hacer diversas actividades, tales como revisar mis plantas, colocar agua para los pájaros y abejas, recolectar frutos, atender a los morrocoyes, hacer jardinería y recoger tierra para los areneros de mis cinco gatos, ya que debido a los precios actuales, es imposible comprar la arena aglutinante que venden especialmente para que ellos hagan sus necesidades fisiológicas básicas, así que a diario recolecto tierra, arena e incluso el aserrín producto de la madera en descomposición de los árboles que fueron podados y talados años atrás.
Every day I go out to my backyard to do various activities, such as checking my plants, placing water for the birds and bees, collecting fruits, tending to the morrocoyes (land turtles), gardening and collecting soil for the sandboxes of my five cats, since due to the current prices, it is impossible to buy the binding sand that they sell especially for them to do their basic physiological needs, so every day I collect soil, sand and even sawdust from the decaying wood of the trees that were pruned and cut down years ago.
Como de costumbre, hoy al mediodía salí a recoger la tierra para los gatos. Salgo a esa hora porque estamos en temporadas de lluvias, y en ese momento la tierra está más seca, y es posible usando una escoba y una pala de plástico, recoger suficiente tierra de la superficie, a fin de llenar los areneros. Últimamente debido a que la tierra está compactada por la humedad ambiental, me dirijo a un montículo en donde reposa el tronco en descomposición de un olivo y allí procedo a ir barriendo, mientras amontono una mezcla de tierra con aserrín, es un buen material para los gatos ya que es ligero y pueden escarbar tranquilamente. A continuación les muestro una foto que tomé semanas atrás, en donde se observa el mencionado montículo, por el cual suben los morrocoyes para comer hojas de semerucos (Malpighia emarginata), y es de donde extraigo el material para los areneros.
As usual, today at noon I went out to collect the soil for the cats. I go out at that time because we are in the rainy season, and at that time the soil is drier, and it is possible using a broom and a plastic shovel, to collect enough soil from the surface, in order to fill the sandboxes. Lately, because the soil is compacted by the environmental humidity, I go to a mound where the decomposing trunk of an olive tree rests and there I proceed to sweep, while I pile up a mixture of soil with sawdust, it is a good material for the cats because it is light and they can dig quietly. Here is a photo I took some weeks ago, where you can see the aforementioned mound, where the turtles climb to eat leaves of red cherries (Malpighia emarginata), and from where I extract the material for the sandboxes.
Estaba haciendo esta tarea, cuando algo blanco llamó mi atención, y al escarbar cuidadosamente con la escoba, descubrí estos huevos blancos, enterrados en la tierra como a 5 centímetros de profundidad.
I was doing this task, when something white caught my attention, and upon carefully digging with the broom, I discovered these white eggs, buried in the ground about 5 centimeters deep.
Terminé de desenterrarlos y con cuidado los moví de sitio. Encontré un total de seis huevos alargados de aproximadamente dos centímetros de largo por un centímetro de circunferencia, de color blanco, algunos con unas manchas como color óxido. Eran blandos al tacto y estaban algo tibios, lo cual me sorprendió, supongo que la tierra los protegía del frío y conservaba el calor.
I finished digging them up and carefully moved them. I found a total of six elongated eggs, approximately two centimeters long by one centimeter in circumference, white in color, some with rust-colored spots. They were soft to the touch and somewhat warm, which surprised me, I guess the soil protected them from the cold and kept them warm.
Este hallazgo me preocupó mucho, porque conozco bien los huevos de morrocoy, y estos son más grandes, (aproximadamente 6 centímetros de circunferencia), y absolutamente redondos, así los he encontrado en mi solar; pero estos eran muy distintos y lo que vino a mi mente fue la palabra serpiente.
This finding worried me a lot, because I know well the morrocoy eggs, and these are larger, (approximately 6 centimeters in circumference), and absolutely round, so I have found them in my backyard; but these were very different and what came to my mind was the word snake.
Procedí a hacer una revisión en la web, buscando imágenes similares, y de acuerdo a lo que encontré (revisar fuentes bibliográficas de este post), estos huevos son iguales a los de las serpientes.
I proceeded to do a review on the web, looking for similar images, and according to what I found (review bibliographic sources of this post), these eggs are the same as those of snakes.
Como vivo en Venezuela en donde el suero antiofídico es inexistente, (antes producíamos diversos tipos de sueros en el Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas, mejor conocido como IVIC, para atender la demanda nacional e incluso éramos exportadores de este medicamento), y actualmente hay reportes de muchos decesos a causa de mordidas de serpientes, no quise arriesgarme ni poner en riesgo a mi familia y animales, y procedí a recogerlos, meterlos en una bolsa y lanzarlos al depósito de la basura. Ajá, sé bien que un naturalista no debería hacer eso, pero es que en donde resido no hay serpentario ni nada que se le parezca, así que mejor prevenir que lamentar.
As I live in Venezuela where the antiophidic serum is non-existent, (we used to produce different types of serums in the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research, better known as IVIC, to meet the national demand and we were even exporters of this medicine), and there are currently reports of many deaths due to snake bites, I did not want to take the risk or put my family and animals at risk, and I proceeded to collect them, put them in a bag and throw them in the garbage bin. Aha, I know well that a naturalist should not do that, but where I live there is no snake farm or anything like it, so better to be safe than sorry.
Here I end this post, which I have written to remind readers that Nature is infinitely generous with all her creatures, including us humans, but we must respect her and know that we coexist territorially with other species, which can be dangerous at certain times, even so, they deserve respect, but sometimes we can not do exactly the right thing, but what is within our reach.

Hello @nikv, nice to see you visit my blog. Yes, I agree with you, all animals must have their space on the planet, since they all play a role in the ecosystem; only to be honest I fear snakes, because there are no antidotes in my country for their bites. I am ignorant as to whether or not these eggs were snake eggs, but if in doubt...
I always allow animals to live in my backyard, as I value their lives and their role in this little forest. There you can get from skunks, iguanas, toads, lizards, bees of all kinds to possums, which I have no problems with.
