Greetings Hive community, happy 2021, with all my heart I hope this is a better year for everyone, trying to retake the discipline and show you the creations in the platform, here you have the first project of the year, how to make a shirt, but beyond cutting and sewing, I will also explain how to take your measurements and thus make your personal patterns.

First, let's get the materials: scissors, five feet of fabric, thread, needle, sewing machine, tape measure, pencil and paper. For this shirt take the measurements of the neck, arm, front and back waist, chest, hip, waist and hip height. Take the highest part of the body and surround it with the tape measure leaving at least half a centimeter of slack, with the intention that it will not be too tight.

The front and back waist goes from the top of the neck to the middle of the torso or where the navel is, for the hip height it goes from the hip bone to the buttock gap, normally if you are a tall person you are 18cm and if you are shorter you are approximately 12cm.

Once you have your measurements you can make your pattern, I will explain this later step by step and piece by piece: the collar, sleeves, the front and back for your shirt. After cutting all the parts, we join the shoulders first, then sew the sleeves and neck. Finally we go for the edges and buttons. Trying to make it as neat as possible, remember before sewing to join with pins or make a simple basting.

Taking measurements is a crucial part of creating clothes. I personally have a hard time pointing out which part to start for the waist and the hips. This is very helpful!
