How to finish socks professionally: use a sock blocker! / きれいに靴下を仕上げる方法 - ソックブロッカー!

Finally I finished knitting a pair of socks for my friend 🧦 It was almost finished but I didn't bind it off the rib. It's one of the tricky parts of sock knitting in addition to knitting toes and heels.

Usually I don't do blocking for my socks as I wear it right away. This time as a gift, I did it to make the socks look nicer. You can really see the difference 😉

Before and after blocking

Fancy sock blockers are available online. But you can make it with a cardboard box. Draw a rough shape of a sock and cut it out. Copy it if you need another one to block a pair at the same time. Another option is to download a patter from the Internet.

I wish my friend likes the socks and it warm her feet up during German cold winter.

I wonder what to work on next. Probably a large market bag with a fabric I bought recently 😊

That's my Needlework Monday. Happy Needlework Monday to all!

Hihi I think I know which company send you the cardboard... it has a verräterisch logo 😂
Love your socks, I am always amazed that a ball of yarn can result in such a lovely pattern. I still have not knitted with such a kind of sock yarn, but would love to. And as I so seldom knit socks, I always have to relearn how to knit the heel :-DDD But with the casting of... I always do it the same way, are you doing something special for the sock ribbing?

Amaxxx. You see the smiling mouth!

A knitting friend of mine told me there is a way to knit a heal called "sweet tomato heel". As a big tomato & sock knitting fan, I must try it. I do "Tubular Bind Off" for ribbing (I didn't know how to call it in English until now 😂). I always have to see a video how to do it ...... Now I can knit a toe & heel without a pattern but I need a video for binding off ... It's so complicated.

I think I have a book with this tomato heel inside and I found it looked totally nice, but the description was: good for a wide heel... and as I have a wide foot around the toes but a super small heel (I slip out of all shoes) I did not tried it so far. Looking forward to your experience.
And with the casting of: I have to research the tubular bind off!!! My bind off ist often wobbly (and so far I only use the standard way and I once tried three needle bind of for a cardigan)

I didn't know it fits to certain heel types. I wonder what kind of type mine is ...

I did regular binding off but the "Tubular Bind Off" looks better ... it needs tolerance though 😅

I love them, one day I will knit a couple of them. The shade of the yarn is a beauty, the tones are my favorite. I think that making them is quite laborious.

Hi @jicrochet. You changed profile photo :) I like this kind of fun multi color yarn especially during the cold dark winter time. You must try it!

Lovely socks! And yes, having a blocker or a "plastic foot" helps to bring new socks into their best form. They look much neater and it's easier to take a picture :)

That's right. Without blocking, I couldn't take a good picture ... Or I just lazily take pictures by wearing them on my feet 😂
