Una mirada a los agricultores

A look at farmers

Hola, espero la estén pasando bien
Hi, I hope you're all right

Family farming is gradually gaining importance, especially in this year of pandemic. This is thanks to the selfless support of organisations, institutions, associations, among others. They provide advice (crop management, fruit processing and finance) and economic contributions to ecological or organic enterprises on their way to becoming agro-ecological.

Even so, the Andes and the Amazon are huge territories and the lack of roads is one of the main limitations. Last year I travelled to Cajamarca, an area that is difficult to access. There, farmers see the cities as a source of development (especially the capital, Lima) and send the youngest members of their families in search of a better future. They commented that life in the countryside is quiet but suffering and that every year they receive less money from the sale of their crops. But, the price in the market increases every time... will the intermediaries be the ones who deceive both the producer and the consumer?

A tejer/ To weave:

For the weaving of these amigurumi I was inspired by the designer Knitoysandcraft. What is particular about this pattern is the shape of the head, as the hair and the face are woven together. In the image "a" you can see 2 forms of woven heads. The face on the left is woven with the colour black behind the colour skin and on the right it is woven with the colour skin behind the same colour, that is, only one colour is seen, either skin or black. Normally the secondary colour is hidden behind the fabric, figure "b".

I learned that the right way would be to place the same colour behind the fabric (figures 1 and 2) and thus gradually hide it (figure 3). In the same way with the colour black. This is so that the piece keeps the shape of the head and the combined colours do not appear.

Once the head is knitted, the rest is simple. The body, arms, waistcoat, hat and facial embroidery were woven (Figures 4, 5 and 6).

For the women, their hair was woven separately and two braids with coloured ribbons were added. Finally the key rings were placed.

¡Y eso es todo!,

¡…Hasta la próxima!
See you next time!

I will place the video tutorial later, as I made several modifications to weave these key rings.
