No les ha pasado que cuando vemos las famosas películas de hallowen aparecen enormes calabazas en tonalidades amarillas y anaranjadas…inclusive hacen concursos como ¿quién cosecha la calabaza más grande? o cuál familia prepara el postre más delicioso, entre otros. Si viajamos a través del tiempo, veremos que las calabazas fueron utilizadas en estas fechas a manera de faroles durante la ceremonia de los muertos. En sí al inicio eran nabos, aunque la calabaza entró como un sustituto a este.
Haven't you ever seen the famous Halloween movies with huge pumpkins in shades of yellow and orange...they even have contests such as who harvests the biggest pumpkin, or which family prepares the most delicious dessert, among others?

When we mention "pumpkin" what comes to mind is pumpkin mazamorra, which is made from sweet pumpkin or Chiclayo (Cucúrbita ficifolia). They are elongated and their colours vary from light to dark or with mixtures between them. They are usually consumed as mazamorra. There is a tradition in a small town in the Andean part of Lima, where at carnival time, instead of soaking themselves with water, they throw pumpkins on their heads.

For this piece, I decided to knit it with the "reverse stitch" or "knit inside out", so that it would be smooth, simulating the shell of the pumpkin. The most complicated part was when knitting the decreases. It's a bit awkward to cross over with the crochet. I forgot, I also used a nuanced yarn from the brand #Astral, which is 60% organic yarn and 40% recycled. I love this initiative because it reduces damage to the environment (it takes care of the planet). I hope to knit more with this kind of yarn.

Existen diversas variedades de calabza y me parece muy interesante la especies que cultivan allá, tambien he visto que no solo la calabza sino que tambien la papa presenta mucha variedad, en paises como Peru y Bolivia mantienen mucho su cultivo y tratan de preservar dichas especies. Las papas nativas...tengo un polo con una papa nativa (diseño propio, jaja). Es cierto, es enorme la biodiversidad que existe y cobre todo como mencionas, resaltar la labor que vienen haciendo los guardianes de esa biodiversidad.
