Greetings dear needleworkers, today I join the Needlework Your Barbie Contest! proposed by this community to make clothes for a Barbie, when I heard about this ad I was a little discouraged because I do not have a Barbie doll, I asked my nieces and cousins who are still girls or teenagers, on the fourth day of searching I gave up, the girls in my family have grown up and none of them have a doll of this style, so I asked the community administrators if I could participate by making clothes for one of my dolls woven, they told me that I could do it so I was happy to finally participate.
I tell you that I thought I was not going to be able to finish on time, these last few days have been very busy for me, last week my son had a consultation with the otolaryngologist and she gave him a diagnosis that demotivated me a lot, my son has 80% of his airway obstructed and he needs a surgery for nasal turbinates and adenoids, I went to the only existing clinics in my city and the budget is very expensive, last Friday I shared the detailed information in a post from the @Motherhood community for needing to vent, like this That being honest I was able to sit knitting on Saturday, which coincidentally was my 32nd birthday.
My birthday was a rainy day, I lost sunlight very early, so I felt bad knitting in such low light, I don't like taking photos of the process having to resort to the camera flash because this distorts the colors of the image even when I edit them in photoshop, the thread of the fabric is not appreciated well due to the yellow light of the flash, in some photos of the process you can notice it, however, I did not let this stop me, that day I was so worried about the money from the operation and I felt very sensitive because it was my birthday, so if I stopped knitting I would feel like I was going to start crying, working on knitting was my therapy.
While I was knitting the outfit for the doll and in view of all my family situation, I realized that knitting has saved me almost my entire life, that same day thanks to my friend @yetsimar I started selling numbers for a raffle to benefit the health and my son, although there are many numbers to sell I feel hopeful, what I want to highlight here is that the prize of that raffle is an amigurumi made by me, I placed as prize options 9 amigurumis of which I already have made and of the best, that is, those that are large, with many details and have a wire structure inside, thinking about weaving again, there are so many opportunities that I have had thanks to having learned this art and making this activity my greatest passion , I feel like my life was completely in an abyss right now if I couldn't do this activity and make a profit from this when I post on Hive because it's no secret to anyone that for a weaver in the Venezuelan crisis It is very difficult to live on your income from the sale of fabrics, so turning 32 years of life this past Saturday I felt very grateful with the needle, with the threads, with this technique, and especially with this community that has always supported me.
I am going through moments of a lot of emotional charge and once again knitting is helping my mind to regulate and keep going, every second invested in each stitch of this specific project eliminated the time of worry in my mind and that is why I highly value the result that I got, I hope you guys like it as well as I do.
I started knitting on Saturday as I said and yesterday I finished it, but at first I did not feel inspired, I did not know what clothes to make for the doll, again I went to my friend @yetimar to ask for ideas, she told me that she wanted a long time ago Jumper for her but she had not been able to buy it, I liked the idea and wanted to make a jumper for my doll, the point is that in my country one of the Christmas traditions that has more years is to buy the "premieres" of December, which means to buy new clothes for the family, to wear it on the 24th of Christmas and the 31st to ring in the new year with new clothes, this tradition is so strong that even many people do not care much about other aspects of their economy as long as they have The happiness of releasing new clothes is these important dates, some people think that this tradition is very global because only poor people think that way, that is, people with a lot of money buy new clothes all year round and they don't necessarily have tobe in December, but I do not think that way, I believe that everyone deserves to have their own traditions and although I have never been in favor of consumerism, if a small piece of new clothing can make a person smile and happy at the end the year, forgetting her other problems a bit, this according to people doing it, because a smile is worth a lot, so I thought that my doll would be happy to have the new clothes to release in December.
Proceso / Process
I started by choosing the yarn, this is quite peculiar, it looks like red wine but actually it is a bit closer to a brick red color, I made 24 chains and joined them with a slip stitch to form a circle, I knitted two rounds of single crochets, Then I did a round with 6 increases, I knitted three rounds, then a round of 6 increases, reaching 48 stitches I worked 9 rounds and closed with a slip stitch.
For the front of the jumper, I picked up 10 stitches from the waistband of the skirt and worked 10 rounds of single crochets. For the straps leaving 2 stitches apart with the bib, I picked up 3 stitches and knitted 22 rounds, in the next round I made the buttonhole substituting the center stitch with a chain and then knitted another round, closed with a slip stitch, hid the strand and I knitted the other strap in the same way, to finish I sewed the buttons on the front and crossed the straps from behind.
For the blouse with white yarn I wove 17 chains to start, for this blouse I made double crochets, I made the yoke making 4 rounds with 4 equidistant increases. I left the spaces for the arms and continued the rest of the blouse knitting in a circular way, making 5 increases by three rounds, it is a crop top model, that is, it is a short blouse, I sewed two small pearls to act as buttons on the yoke.
For the shoes I made 6 chains to weave in a circular way on these, making increases to form an oval of 24 stitches with beige thread, with light brown thread I wove the edge of the sole, while with dark brown thread I wove the body of the shoe, I made decreases for the toe part and then I knit a strip to make the shoe a Mary Jane model. I made two identical shoes and finally sewed a golden plastic pearl on each shoe.
For the bag with light brown thread I made 8 chains and knitted in a circular way on these making 4 increases to get 20 stitches, I made 7 rounds for the body of the bag, for the top I knitted 8 single crochets for 5 rounds and then I made two decreases for round until you reach two stitches, in the third to last round replace two single crochets with two chains to make the buttonhole. With light brown thread, I knitted single crochets for the edge of the bag cover, I made the anger with 5 chains and 35 stitches slipped over them.
For the hair tie, I knit a circle of 16 chains and knit 4 rounds of single crochets. I made 18 chains and closed them to form another circle, I made on these 18 high stitches, with the same thread I sewed the center and formed a loop that I sewed to the first circle, I sewed a plastic pearl in the center of the loop.
Resultado / Result
This doll is almost 8 inches, that is almost 20 cm counting her hair, the clothes are quite small, I knit them using 1mm acrylic yarn and 1.25mm # 4 crochet hook. I really liked that her appearance completely changed, she looks with a very classic style and I really liked the colors.

Abrazos
Mucho éxito en el concurso

First let me say that I hope you are able to raise the funds for the surgery your son needs. I hope the raffle goes well for you all. I’m glad you were able to use your knitting time as a therapy.
Happy belated birthday to you as well! ❤️
Your jumper outfit is Adorbs!! I’m so glad you decided to use your own doll because it turned out really cute. Those shoes with the button are the cutest. I really like her matching bag and hair tie too.
Thanks for taking the time to enter. I hope everything works out for your son and he’s able to have a successful surgery ~
Thank you very much for the good wishes, I have found in this community many women who have become great friends, despite the distance I have felt the love of all needle workers, I am moved to see so much support in their words. A big hug!
🤗😘☺️
jajajaja muchas gracias, Saludos!
My heart was breaking upon reading the 2nd and 3rd paragraph. And I can't imagine the feeling of a concerned mother, willing to do anything for her son. And the fact that it's your birthday, I just wish you to be strong and in good health. Happy happy birthday @irenenavarroart. Just keep in mind that God will provide everything. Be amazed on the things that He can do.
By the way, I loved the outfit of your doll and the doll itself. Job well done and congratulations. 😊
And I speak healing to your son in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
A mí me encantan. 👏
