I watched a video where a lady made free motion embroidery look super simple. I ordered a darning/embroidery foot that was an optional part for my machine. I also bought a 6 inch regular embroidery hoop to use so that I could do the free motion embroidery on my machine.
I carefully sketched a simple image of a woman’s head on my fabric with my water soluble marker. I followed the instructions to the letter, but my image looks like chicken scratch.
I tried the free motion embroidery with and without the newly purchased foot.
If this had worked, it would have been a game changer for me because I would not be dependent on the limited number of images that came with my older machine.
I am sure that with a lot of practice and multiple attempts, I could produce something that looks decent, but I don’t want to continue investing in old technology when the newer machines are leaps and bounds much better than my old machine.
I will just have to continue doing the tasks that this machine does well and be satisfied with it for now. I can see where I would be able to darn a piece of fabric successfully using this method, but I cannot control the hoop well enough to do a design.
I still am not ready to invest $700 on the new machine with all of the bells and whistles. I have to see myself doing a whole lot of sewing before I spend that amount of money in a hobby.
Enjoy your day.
I was immediately intrigued as I read free motion embroidery as I imagine it as drawing with yarn. I have seen some artworks with it and loved them. I hope you will get the hang of your machine because I can see that this will be such a cool tool for you. (Or that somebody mysteriously donates you a newer machine <3)
