Designing and creating some summer trousers, to fit my current mood…

Those trousers I designed, getting inspired by the mood I was in that day. I wanted to make the trousers, that would fit my emotional state of that moment.

It does happen to me quite often, that I want to get dressed and, in my head, I do have a very specific idea of what garments I want to wear, fitting my mood. But then if I do not find something matching this vision it is very frustrating, to me anyways. (am I the only one or can you relate, anyone?)

So that day I decided to just make the trousers I wanted to wear. (until I was done I did have to compromise, with some other clothes but that was oke)

I looked around in my mess of materials and fabrics, which is something I really enjoy, even though it can end up in some controversial emotional state. Every fabric I touch gives me so many ideas of what I could do with it. And then I would love to do so many things at the same time. Well since this is unfortunately not possible, I really must restrain myself to stay focused on one thing, to be able to end the project.

Luckily, I managed to focus, and that’s why you can enjoy that work-process and outcome now:)

Looking at the fabric it does remind me of the shades of a tree, covered in leaves on a sunny day. Beautiful, no? What better fabric would there be to make wide, loose summer trousers?

process.sewing.jpg

The sewing pattern I applied is quite simple, I had it in mind for ages actually. Since I had some trousers with the exact cut, but they got old and had wholes everywhere, I had to throw them away.

For the pattern, you basically take two squares of fabric, lay them on top of each other and cut a “U”-shape on the top-middle. Almost done...
Now I sewed the U together (there I had some struggles, because apparently it does matter how wide and what shape the U has, so I had to adjust that a few times)

I added two stripes at the top… First, I thought to pass some darker-gray edges all around the trousers. But then I realized that this fabric is so nicely delicate and flowing around without. It would have been a shame not to take advantage of that.

So, I ended up not making edges at all…

Even though the pattern was quite simple it took me the whole day to finish those trousers. Ironically by the time I was finished it was already too cold to wear them. But I am still very happy about having finished them. (even the next day it was too cold to put them on, but I am very optimistic to get there soon)

(quick proof that I worked till the evening:)

And thats how those trousers look in the end. To explain quickly how they work: so on the sides they are fully open, no seam, and they close through the top where you fasten them with four stripes two make a knot at the front and the other two at the back... But you can also just see the outcome without understanding the system:) works too.

(I just liked those photos much more in black and white but I will give you another glimpse in color at the end)

(here you can see pretty good how the system works, I think, with the open sides and the knot around the waist)

I am amazed by this fabric, I love the association of tree-shades, the pattern reminds me of. Actually, I am thinking of making a fitting top for it. So far, I have a few ideas, but didn’t yet decide what to go for... (Any suggestions?)

Nevertheless, I imagine it would look pretty cool to be dressed from head to toes in that fabric and go for a walk under green trees with the reflections of the leaves on the dress, adding up on the pattern of the fabric itself.

Thanks for stopping by, see you around and have a lovely end of this week!

THere is a saying in German which roughly translates into „chance hits the prepared mind“… and your post just hit me. I am drinking a cup of coffe (and obviously reading meanwhile) after I started to clean out my wardrobe… precisely the trousers section. OMG so many old trousers and only a tiny amount fits well. Every time I do such a clean out I am aware I should learn to sew trousers (my big sewing angst: fitting trousers) because my figure seems to not find into bought trousers.
And you - wow - you did it. Such a lovely design which looks like a mix of trousers and a wide flowy skirt. YOur slim waist is perfectly accentuated by the knotted design. Love what you did (and still have trousers sewing angst :-DDDD)

Aaah thank you:)) yess I know that feeling, fitting trousers is just really hard, and very random I find, you fix one loose end and created the next problem.. hahah
But yes I can only recommend you this pattern then, it is quite a easy-ish achievement, since they sit loose and you can adjust them, not too much can go wrong with the fitting..:) I was actually thinking to start writing sewing-patterns.. so I might just include this one:) Well thanks for this lovely comment, its always a pleasure! and very inspiring to keep going:)

I must admit @kesityu.fashion this really looks amazing on you, well you’ve really don a great job thank for sharing

Thank you so much!! I am very glad you like it:)

I don't know if you have enough material left... but i have a VERY ROUGH sketch of something you may be able to work with or modify more to your liking. It's not my best artwork by any means... but it conveys the concept well enough.

I thought something with the flare on the shoulders that would be loose fitting and open would be cool and comfortable. Something that tightens up around the bustline so the girls don't spill out. And Something that form fits down to the waist would be nice. You could tuck it in or have it untucked. The belt or tie around the waist would be optional. I just pictured something with a Japanese feel to the flow of the design more than anything. I don't know if this helps or is more confusing than anything else. I could spend more time on my design if you were actually interested in incorporating it as a top to go with that bottom.

If you do this top... you have to jam this for inspiration at least once... hahahah

yesss, japanese feel: definitely, and the lose shoulders is a brilliant idea too. that is actually really inspiring me right now, also with the music:) brings up a different way of getting into the process than if it was just me with the inspiration, or music I would listen to anyways...
well as soon as I have time this week I ll get into that, I ll let you now about the result:)
and actually happy me I have more than enough fabric left, for once hahah

That's awesome that you like the idea. I am sure you will make it look and feel a lot better than my little sketch but i am glad the idea was conveyed well enough to get your wheels turning.

I heard that song on the movie John Wick and didn't like it at first. Then it stuck with me... and now i listen to it from time to time.

I'm super glad you have enough fabric left. I was concerned about that. hahaha It has a nice pattern but the texture looked cool too. I'm excited to see how the top comes out when/if you choose to work on it. Cheers my friend.

Ahhhhhh! @kesityu.fashion . This trouser is so so great, I love from the fabric then your processes to make it and the result at the end.I wish I could have one or have a good suitable with my style desgined from you one day. You do it very very excellent.😊

Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate that feedback:) Well I would love to make you some and send them to you one day:)

xo xo xo 😊 Much appriciated @kesityu.fashion ^_^
