I've never really dared to make a woven mask because I think it's impractical for the need for pandemic protection. For example, if I crochet it is heavy, plus the spaces between the stitches do not offer security, which requires the incorporation of a cloth mouthpiece or other material on the back.
So I knitted the mask with two needles, resulting in a lighter fabric and its weight does not bother the face. I made it in mustard yellow cotton thread, a color that I think is very nice.
As a decoration I decided to make two flowers with thread shaded in pink and yellow. Using the same type of shaded yarn, but in green, I woven a leaf to give life and color to the foliage.
I finished the border of the mask in crochet using half stitches, which I thought gave it a very nice finish and at the ends I knitted chains to hold the mask to the ears.
The only thing I had left to do was how to solve the protection afterwards, obviously the most important thing. I'm still not sure whether to sew a fabric to it, but it seems to me that the fabric loses its beauty or to make a kind of woven pocket that allows the person to introduce the protective fabric and thus maintain the beauty of the fabric. What do you think? Your comments are very important to me!

La verdad nunca me había atrevido a hacer un tapabocas tejido pues considero que es poco práctico para la necesidad de protección ante la pandemia. Por ejemplo si lo tejo con ganchillo es pesado, además los espacios entre los puntos no ofrecen seguridad, lo que requiere la incorporación de un cubreboca de tela u otro material en la parte posterior.
Así que me di a la tarea de tejer el tapabocas con dos agujas, resultando un tejido más liviano y su peso no molesta en la cara. Lo hice en hilo algodón color amarillo mostaza, un color que me parece muy bonito.
Como decoración decidí hacer dos flores con hilo matizado en colores rosado y amarillo. Usando el mismo tipo de hilo matizado, pero en color verde, tejí una hoja para darle vida y color al follaje.
Rematé el borde del tapaboca en crochet usando medios puntos, lo que me pareció le dio una terminación muy bonita y en los extremos tejí cadenetas para sostener el tapabocas a las orejas.
Lo único que me quedó pendiente fue cómo resolver la protección posterior, evidentemente lo más importante. Todavía no estoy segura si coser al tejido una tela, pero me parece que pierde belleza el tejido o hacer un especie de bolsillo tejido que le permita a la persona introducir la tela protectora y así mantener la belleza del tejido. In engineering term this technique we called knitting. when interlacement of 2 set of yarns with right angle happens we call it weaving or woven which requires loom for production.

Such lovely colors, mustard is so nice (it reminds me always of fall and leaves) I think your mask looks very cute and it could be a wonderful accessory for the winter when it gets really cold. But as you wrote, it does perhaps give not the optimal protection. I would not sew in fabric, as i think it will be to thick and not breathable (fabric and knitting together) Maybe a pocket were you can insert a filter (coffee filter or something similar).

Definitivamente pienso que deberías añadirle una tela cosida del lado de adentro, quizás al mismo tono que la lana del cubrebocas o de alguna de las flores. Es muy hermoso tu trabajo pero no debemos olvidar su función! (después de todo, una tela tampoco nos protege taaaanto como un barbijo real, pero hay que hacer que funcione lo mejor posible con lo que tenemos a nuestro alcance) 🙂.
