Shattered Dreams, New Beginnings - My Picture Day Submission

in My Picture Day5 years ago

In the beginning lockdown was kind of liberating; hiding away from the world, safely in my own little cocoon.

The days all started melting into one another and every day felt like a Saturday.

In between spring-cleaning and de-cluttering, I got real busy in the kitchen cooking and baking up several storms as this is my way of forgetting about what goes on in the big bad world out there!

Running a BnB from home, I would normally (what is that?) get calls at all hours of the day or night as people plan breakaways after hours not so! Those calls stopped and it was great not being woken up at midnight!

Then lockdown was extended and I started missing those calls especially as the bank balance was not being replenished with our post-retirement income!

I no longer watch the news as one hears about the hunger and despair all around and the aid that is not being distributed fairly and not reaching many who are in desperate need.

How can we help them when we have a government that discriminates on who gets the aid based on race? Plus you now need a permit to distribute food parcels or be threatened with arrest! Getting that permit is not easy either I am told.

So many dreams and hopes shattered by governments that cannot make the right decisions!

Wish I could just ride away in the sunset to a whole new world where people look out for one another.

This photo was taken on a road trip to our son in Johannesburg a couple of years ago.

I must say I have experienced some of that empathy and neighborliness since Covid-19 broke out so there is some hope.

Gorgeous colours in the sky during an autumn sunrise at home.

This really is the best time of the year in Durban as the days are wonderfully sunny and the nights just a little cool. Perfect beach weather but we're not allowed to even walk on the beach!

I long for the day when we're all free again and start building a new tomorrow.
There certainly is going to be many many changes but let's look to the future with hope, and never ever forget to lend a helping hand to our fellow-man.

I know it's a cliche, but it really is so true; no matter how dark things may look now, the sun will always rise again in the morning!

What a strange new reality it is. Lately my mood seems to waver between being content (which is most of the time) to feeling like a caged animal. I'm finding weekends are a little more tough for me just because this when we would typically do most of our socializing. I'm sorry to hear that some are getting preference over others when it comes to aid over there. In the U.S. it seems to be only big corporations that are getting preference over everyone else. Most of the stimulus money has been funneled to them so far. Gorgeous photos! Let's hope for that metaphorical sunrise soon. Take care, Lizelle!

I guess we're all going through similar ups and downs during this time of waiting and hoping for it to pass, but it's taking way too long for my liking! The injustices just uoset me so I think at times I should just bury my head in the sand and not listen to everything!
The number of cases are quite scary in your country Eric!
Hope your Dad is a little better now:)

I'm going a bit stir-crazy too. My bike is out of commission too, while I'm having some new wheels built. Bike rides were my one solace that I looked forward to on the nicer days.

I'm so saddened to hear that kind of thing is going on in South Africa. You would think humanity would have moved beyond that kind of behaviour by now.

The numbers are really growing here and will get far worse when everything opens up on the 18th. I imagine we'll hit record numbers around the end of May since the incubation period is about ten days.

Thanks, Lizelle! He's getting a little better every day. At this point we're just taking things day by day.

Fiona shared the crazy requirements about the food parcels with me. How is anyone to meet those?? At a time when people not only need food, but also when the few dollars earned from selling something homemade might help make a big difference. I understand caution, but there is such a thing as an overabundance of such. Grateful you have some time to relax, but again, there is also such a thing as too much on that front. Continuing to send lots of love your way!

Ah thank you Katie, you're so sweet!
How very true, an overabundance of caution is getting wayyy too much for me!
I've actually been busier lately as we had to do all kinds of stuff for insurance claim and other admin stuff, also been rethinking the way forward as it looks like it's going to be a couple of months before we can open again so we may operate purely as a residential.
You please take care xxx

Beautiful photographs Lizelle. I stopped looking at or listening to the news a few years ago, and I'm sure it makes me calmer and more balanced (although some of my friends would disagree!). Many of my friends are in a crazy panic about this disease, and I think it's because they watch the news. Life is full of risks, but being fearful and depressed doesn't help the immune system, so I think the news has a lot to answer for. It doesn't give a balanced or rational view of events.

100% correct, the media are actually controlled by the big pharma I'm told, and they certainly are frightening everyone with all the drama, it really is not good watching it all the time! We should rather look at ways to boost our immune system naturally! You must be missing your hiking? You were taking care of someone when I last saw you?
Please take care of yourself!

Thanks @lizelle. I am missing the mountains so much - sometimes if I have to drive somewhere I go the long way round and just look at the mountains in the distance! And yes, I was caring for my mum, and she sadly died at Christmas, after suffering a stroke in early December. It's been quite a tough time, contacting all her friends to tell them the sad news, and organising the funeral. That's why I was off Steemit for a while - I missed all the exciting developments with Justin Sun and Hive!

Ah no I'm so sorry to hear that @natubat, must have been so awful!
Hope you're taking good care of yourself after such a distressing period.
You can start planning your next climb and just do some virtual climbing now, there's so much stuff being put online at the moment!

Absolutely! I've signed up to the Patreon account of one of my favourite climbers, giving excellent advice and exercises 😁

Such beautiful shots @lizelle! I know it seems surreal...but we'll get through this! Keep on cooking, we both know it is the best therapy! Have you been sewing? How long is your lockdown at this point? We are just beginning to open up a tiny bit..perhaps there is light at the end of the tunnel. Stay healthy my friend!

My sewing machine gave up the ghost;( I had so many plans for it but it won't pick up the bobbin thread, hubby tried to fix it but no luck there!
So it's cooking and baking and gardening and blogging!
Let's hope things start improving soon.
Stay safe my friend!

Beautiful pictures dear. All this time can help us to be better ❤

You're right @denissemata, we're learning lessons here! Thank you for the visit:)

Beautiful photographs Lizelle - reblogging - keep on shining as you always do.

Thank you my friend:) This hectic lockdown is just getting us all down here!

Yes, we are all fed-up with the lockdown. Ours is supposedly easing in a weeks time and airports are due to re-open on 7th June. Waiting with baited breath

I personally think although this virus can be deadly and we have to be careful, that Dr Fauci misled the governments of the world about the Coronavirus; our infection rate is absolutely ridiculously low yet our economy has now been destroyed by a lengthy lockdown which has already led to mass unemployment! Hoping you open up on 7 June but Coronavirus will not go away soon, so be really careful still my friend!

Thank you my friend - I will - but you are 100% correct
