Les saludo hoy, 10 de agosto 2023. He vuelto a la comunidad Insects Of The World, para compartir con todos un curioso insecto que pude fotografiar días atrás en mi solar. Realmente no sabía su nombre, lo que sí ví es que es un insecto algo temerario, porque todo el rato que estuve observándolo, se posaba en mis manos, pero saltaba y saltaba, lo que dificultó poder tomarle fotos apropiadas, de allí la baja calidad de las que incluyo en este post.
I greet you today, August 10, 2023. I have returned to the Insects Of The World community, to share with everyone a curious insect that I was able to photograph days ago in my backyard. I didn't really know its name, what I did see is that it is a somewhat reckless insect, because all the time I was watching it, it landed on my hands, but it jumped and jumped, which made it difficult to take proper photos of it, hence the low quality of which I include in this post.
Initially I did not know the name of this insect, neither the common nor the scientific one, however when doing comparisons and searching on Google, I found that its common name is Zebra Fly, and its scientific name is Chaetopsis massyla, so I was able to give it the name Appropriate name for this jumping insect, which I often see in the backyard, but which did not behave as friendly as the day I photographed it.
Se distribuye en gran parte de Norteamérica (aunque yo la ví en mi solar y yo vivo en Venezuela; como también encontré un estudio que la señala como plaga para los cultivos de maíz en México).
Su longitud total varía de 6 a 7 mm
Para esta especie en particular, se presentan las 3 bandas negras y las 3 bandas transparentes en sus alas, aunque hay otras variedades que tienen un patrón alar diferente, con más bandas.
Su hábitat es fundamentalmente los humedales y terrenos agrícolas.
La dieta de los insectos adultos, como éste, se basa en polen y la savia de las plantas que brote de éstas por roturas en su corteza, es decir, el insecto no se las genera. También consumen los fluidos de frutas.
Las larvas se alimentan de los tallos y frutos en descomposición de diversas especies vegetales, o sea, cumplen una labor descomponedora, son sapófritas.
Como indiqué previamente, este insecto puede convertirse en una plaga en ciertos cultivos de maíz, pero no es la norma.
It is distributed in a large part of North America (although I saw it on my backyard and I live in Venezuela; as I also found a study that indicates it as a pest for corn crops in Mexico).
Its total length varies from 6 to 7 mm
For this particular species, there are 3 black bands and 3 transparent bands on its wings, although there are other varieties that have a different wing pattern, with more bands.
Its habitat is mainly wetlands and agricultural land.
The diet of adult insects, like this one, is based on pollen and the sap of plants that sprout from them through breaks in their bark, that is, the insect does not generate them. They also consume the fluids of fruits.
The larvae feed on the decomposing stems and fruits of various plant species, that is, they carry out a decomposing task, they are sapofrites.
As previously stated, this insect can become a pest on certain corn crops, but it is not the norm.

Hola @sirenahippie, me imagino que tomar las fotos a la mosca no fue fácil, es la primera vez que veo esta especie de mosca con bandas en las alas, nunca se sabe que se puede encontrar en el solar; gracias por compartir la información de este curioso insecto, ahora sé que existe otra mosca je, je.

Hola @belkyscabrera gracias por pasar a visitar. No fue sencillo, pues brincaba y volaba de un lado a otro, de allí que las fotos no sean tan nítidas. Tengo aproximadamente 2 años observando este insecto, creo que se acercó al solar porque tanto en mi huerto, como en huertos circunvecinos se ha plantado maíz, creo que es por eso que ha hecho presencia. Muy interesante pero tomar las fotos siempre es un desafió, yo he tratado de fotografiar algunos y justo en el click se mueven 🤣, parece una pequeña mosquita, pero las alas son diferentes, creo que lo podemos bautizar pero no se que nombre darle 🤔

Ya he visto esta mosca algunas veces y de nuevo aprendo contigo algo, además de su nombre. Gracias por la información @sirenahippie. Si, ella es así muy inquieta y por eso tampoco la he podido fotografiar, así que tu has salido premiada al poder sacarle unas cuantas fotos.

Hola @parauri muchas gracias por pasar de visita. Sí, la bibliografía dice que esta mosca se ubica en Norteamérica, más específicamente hacia el Este, pero aquí la he visto también, así que será el proceso de adaptación que ella experimenta.
