Since my parents bought this house, the neighbors were already here, from that very moment they were like family. We are literally next door, our terraces see each other, the mornings of hanging the laundry or the afternoons of watering the plants are often a time to meet with Nora, the neighbor next door <3
Hola todos! tengan muy buen día, hoy les muestro el DIY que logramos con la vecina y toda una historia que transpira amor y bondad.
Desde que mis padres compraron esta casa, los vecinos estaban ya aquí, desde ese mismo momento fueron como familia. Estamos literalmente al lado, nuestras terraza se ven mutuamente, las mañanas de colgar la ropa o las tardes de regar las plantas suelen ser momento de encuentro con Nora, la vecina de al lado de casa <3
She is a pediatrician, always going to the interior of the country to vaccinate children, in my childhood she used to go on vacation in a motor home, adventurous woman who never stayed in the mold, let's say. She has a son my age, with whom we shared even the first steps. She is like an aunt to me.
This time we crossed paths on the terraces and she asked me to come and help her "come tomorrow if you can". At 10:30 when I went in, the mates were already ready, some cakes and some cloth dolls on the table. She asked me to help paint their faces, faces, eyes, etc. They are being sent to a children's home for Christmas and she is not good at painting (so she says!).
Ella es medica pediatra, siempre yendo al interior del país a vacunar niños, en mi infancia ella iba de vacaciones en una casa rodante, mujer aventurera que nunca se quedó en el molde, digamos. Tiene un hijo de mi edad, con quien compartimos hasta los primeros pasos. Es como una tía para mi.
En esta oportunidad nos cruzamos en las terrazas y me pidió que fuese a ayudarla "veni mañana si podes". A las 10:30 cuando entré, ya estaban los mates listos, unos bizcochos y unos muñecos de tela sobre la mesa. Me pidió que ayudara a pintarles rostros, caras, ojos, etc. Que los envían a un hogar de niños para Navidad y ella no es buena pintando (eso dice!)
I started carefully and feeling out the humid weather, she wouldn't let me use any of my paints or brushes and she only had acrylics, so it got a little complicated, but I also painted t-shirts with acrylics in the past so I was emboldened and started risking some faces and layers of paint to cover up some messes Nora made with the marker 😅
Comencé con cuidado y tanteando la humedad del clima, no me dejó usar ninguna de mis pinturas o pinceles y ella solo tenía acrílicos, por lo que se me complicó un poquito, pero también pinté remeras con acrílico en el pasado asique me envalentoné y empecé a arriesgar unos rostros y capas de pintura para tapar algunos líos que hizo Nora con el marcador 😅
It took a while between coats of paint, while Nora made me mates, fought the rain and the leaks and we chatted about the children to whom these gifts will be sent. She is very happy to have made dolls and puppets with the help of a friend of hers, when they get together they call it "El taller clandestino de muñecos". But after several recommendations, although it is really funny, the name was only for internal use.
Se tardó un rato entre mano de pintura y mano de pintura, mientras Nora me hacía mates, combatía la lluvia y las goteras y charlábamos de los niños a los que se les enviarán estos regalos. Ella esta muy feliz de haber logrado muñecos y títeres con la ayuda de una amiga suya, cuando se juntan ellas lo llaman "El taller clandestino de muñecos" Pero luego de varias recomendaciones, aunque es realmente gracioso, el nombre quedó solo de uso interno.
The whales or fishes were a challenge because I have not always been able to paint the same thing twice, and from the front the eyes or the fins can be simpler, but I did the best I could, I think they were all different and with a nice touch. Of course I had to mix a lot of paints to achieve different colors and shades.
Las ballenas o pescados fueron un desafío porque no siempre he sabido pintar dos veces lo mismo, y de frente los ojos o las aletas pueden ser mas sencillas, igualmente hice lo mejor que pude, creo que todos quedaron distintos y con un toque simpático. Claro que para eso tuve que mezclar muchas pinturas para lograr distintos colores y sombras.
Nora tells me that they have already sent a van with clothes, mats, food and blankets. That this shipment is on time for the holidays and that there is a package for each child. She is always committed to noble causes, they gave her a maximum delivery date since in the children's homes what they do is prepare the tree and the same day they leave the package as a gift even though they can only open it on December 25th.
Me cuenta Nora que ya enviaron una camioneta con ropa, colchonetas, comida y frazadas. Que este envío es puntual para las fiestas y que exista un paquete para cada niño. Ella se compromete con causas siempre nobles, le dieron una fecha máxima de entrega ya que en los hogares de niños lo que hacen es preparar el arbolito y el mismo día dejarles el paquete como obsequio aunque lo puedan abrir recién el 25 de diciembre.
When we are finishing, Nora starts to make voices to the puppets, she says hello, they say hello and she is extremely happy, I love to see my neighbor so full of joy and love to give, I see her radiant as when she is with her grandchildren, who are three super earthquakes that visit her every Sunday.
Cuando vamos finalizando, Nora empieza a hacerle voces a los títeres, saluda, dicen Hola y se la nota extremadamente feliz, me encanta ver a mi vecina tan llena de alegría y de amor para dar, la veo radiante como cuando está con sus nietos, que son tres súper terremotos que la visitan todos los domingos.

We have finished, they are very nice and I am happy to have been able to help. We chatted a lot during these hours and it is always nice to know that she is well, because she is big and takes care of herself, and if she needs anything, she knows she can call me.
Hemos terminado, quedaron muy lindos y estoy feliz de haber podido ayudar. Charlamos mucho estas horas y siempre es agradable saber que está bien, porque es grande y se cuida sola, siempre ante cualquier necesidad, sabe que puede llamarme.
Then we move all the dolls to the living room table to finish drying and we go to finish setting up the kitchen, I clean the brushes and put everything away. I give my lifelong neighbor, aunt, a huge hug and go home for lunch. I'm only a few steps away and she always makes me feel a huge love with her kindness.
Movemos luego todos los muñecos a la mesa del living para que terminen su secado y nos vamos a terminar de acomodar la cocina, limpio los pinceles y guardo todo. Le doy un abrazo enorme a mi vecina, tía, de toda la vida y voy a casa a almorzar. Solo estoy a unos pasos de distancia y siempre me hace sentir un amor agigantado con su bondad

¡Wao! ¡Qué buen proyecto! Me encantan estas actividades, recuerdo que una vez en conjunto con unos amigos recogimos entre las amistades juguetes, me había trazado la meta de que todos los juguetes fueran absolutamente nuevo, y lo logramos, luego los clasificamos por edad y nos dedicamos a envolver cada uno de los regalos. Por otro lado, se organizó un gran banquete, juegos, payasos y Santa Claus. Llegado el día, yo estaba más feliz que los niños, que gran experiencia ver a tantos niños sonreír.
Esto de pintar estas caras de los muñecos ha sido fundamental para esta entrega, tu amor va impreso en esas caritas de los muñecos y es lo que verán los niños.

Me encantó tu mensaje, es tal cual como dices "llega el día y yo estoy mas feliz que los niños" uno sabe el trabajo y amor que le pone a las cosas, la selección o el objetivo que se establece y es muy grato poder cumplirlo. En mi caso, ayudar a la vecina ya fue un disfrute enorme, y me imagino que los niños estarán muy felices. Me ofrecí a llevarlos pero igualmente el lugar es bastante restrictivo y no permiten visitas. En otra oportunidad será.
