Hello everyone! I’m lorentm, a digital artist passionate about exploring emotions through fantasy-inspired illustrations. Today I’m thrilled to share with you my latest artwork, created for the wonderful @holozing community. This piece is part of the Zingtober challenge, and the keyword for this fourth day is Murky.
As soon as I saw the prompt, I immediately thought of the Female Light Healer—a character whose gentle aura contrasts beautifully with the darkness surrounding her. I wanted to explore the idea of purity and fear coexisting in a single moment, showing a healer who, despite being a source of light, finds herself overwhelmed by the shadows.
Creating this piece was an emotional journey. I wanted the artwork to feel tense but poetic, portraying that fleeting second when courage flickers but doesn’t fade. Her expression of fear and confusion became central to the composition.

¡Hola a todos! Soy lorentm, una artista digital apasionada por explorar las emociones a través de ilustraciones inspiradas en la fantasía. Hoy estoy muy emocionada de compartir con ustedes mi última obra, creada para la maravillosa comunidad de @holozing. Esta pieza forma parte del reto Zingtober, y la palabra clave para este cuarto día es Murky.
En cuanto vi la palabra, pensé inmediatamente en la Female Light Healer, un personaje cuya aura suave y pura contrasta hermosamente con la oscuridad que la rodea. Quise explorar la idea de la pureza y el miedo coexistiendo en un mismo instante, mostrando a una sanadora que, a pesar de ser fuente de luz, se ve abrumada por las sombras.
Crear esta pieza fue un viaje emocional. Quise que el arte transmitiera tensión, pero también poesía, mostrando ese momento fugaz en el que el valor titubea, pero no desaparece. Su expresión de miedo y confusión se convirtió en el centro de toda la composición.

The Female Light Healer is a character who embodies hope and warmth. Her long, straight hair flows like silver threads under the dim glow of unseen light. Her outfit is a simple yet elegant robe that speaks of her role as a healer—soft fabrics, modest design, and subtle lines that enhance her serene nature. However, in this scene, her expression tells another story. She’s crouched on the ground, surrounded by ghostly eyes and sinister smiles glowing from the darkness.
This artwork captures the contrast between light and shadow, safety and fear. Her glowing eyes reflect her inner light trying to resist the consuming darkness around her. The faceless entities in the background represent her fears—those unseen whispers that haunt even the purest souls.
La Female Light Healer es un personaje que representa la esperanza y la calidez. Su cabello largo y liso fluye como hilos de plata bajo el tenue brillo de una luz invisible. Su atuendo es una túnica sencilla pero elegante, que refleja su papel como sanadora: telas suaves, diseño modesto y líneas sutiles que resaltan su naturaleza serena. Sin embargo, en esta escena, su expresión cuenta otra historia. Está agachada en el suelo, rodeada de ojos fantasmales y sonrisas siniestras que brillan desde la oscuridad.
Esta ilustración busca capturar el contraste entre la luz y la sombra, la seguridad y el miedo. Sus ojos brillantes reflejan su luz interior intentando resistir la oscuridad que la rodea. Las entidades sin rostro en el fondo representan sus temores, esos susurros invisibles que acechan incluso a las almas más puras.
Process / Proceso
I started the piece with a rough sketch to define the composition and the character’s posture. I wanted her to appear small and vulnerable, so I drew her crouched in the center, giving the impression that darkness was closing in.
Once I was satisfied with the sketch, I moved on to the line art. The clean lines helped bring structure to her form, especially her delicate hands and hair strands. I kept the line weight varied to maintain a sense of movement and softness in contrast to the eerie atmosphere.
Then came the coloring stage, although since the artwork is monochromatic, I worked mainly with grayscale values. This allowed me to play with depth and lighting without relying on hues. The challenge here was balancing the softness of the healer’s features with the intensity of the surrounding darkness.
Next, I focused on the shadows. I deepened the areas around her figure to make her glow stand out, using smooth gradients to emphasize the gloom. The shadows around her eyes and under her robe helped accentuate her frightened yet captivating expression.
After that, I added the highlights—the glowing eyes, the reflections on her hair, and the sinister smiles in the background. This step brought the entire scene to life, making it feel almost cinematic.
Finally, I worked on the background. I kept it minimal but atmospheric, with dark tones fading into absolute black. The floating eyes and grinning mouths emerged from that void, enhancing the sense of fear and isolation that defines Murky.
Empecé la pieza con un boceto para definir la composición y la postura del personaje. Quería que se viera pequeña y vulnerable, por lo que la dibujé agachada en el centro, dando la impresión de que la oscuridad la rodeaba.
Una vez satisfecha con el boceto, pasé al delineado. Las líneas limpias ayudaron a dar estructura a su forma, especialmente en sus manos delicadas y los mechones de cabello. Mantuve un grosor de línea variado para conservar el movimiento y la suavidad, en contraste con la atmósfera inquietante.
Luego llegó el coloreado, aunque al ser una obra monocromática, trabajé principalmente con tonos de grises. Esto me permitió jugar con la profundidad y la iluminación sin depender del color. El reto fue equilibrar la suavidad de los rasgos de la sanadora con la intensidad de la oscuridad que la rodea.
Después me enfoqué en las sombras. Oscurecí las zonas alrededor de su figura para resaltar su brillo, usando degradados suaves para acentuar la penumbra. Las sombras en sus ojos y bajo su túnica ayudaron a destacar su expresión temerosa pero cautivadora.
Luego añadí los brillos: los ojos resplandecientes, los reflejos en su cabello y las sonrisas siniestras del fondo. Este paso dio vida a toda la escena, haciéndola sentir casi cinematográfica.
Finalmente, trabajé el fondo. Lo mantuve minimalista pero atmosférico, con tonos oscuros que se desvanecen en negro absoluto. Los ojos flotantes y las bocas sonrientes emergen de ese vacío, intensificando la sensación de miedo y aislamiento que define Murky.

Creating this artwork was a deeply emotional experience. Through Murky, I was able to explore the balance between vulnerability and strength, light and darkness. The Female Light Healer reminded me that even in moments of fear, the smallest spark of light can still shine beautifully.

The tools I used for the drawing were the following:
- Android tablet.
- Capacitive pen (Stylus).
- Ibis Paint X program.
- Brushes: Pencil, Airbrush, Fuzzy, Marker.
