What did I inherit?

Thanks to my friends @tibaire and @valrodriguez, the former for her great initiative that confronts us with the legacies we have inherited from our ancestors, and the latter for her affectionate invitation in her response to said initiative. I owe the writing of this publication to both of you, which I leave for all of you, friends and followers of the @holos-lotus family, in the big house of #hive.

As @tibaire very well indicates, heredity includes much more than the belongings we received from our ancestors, which include things of material value and others strongly anchored in emotions and affections of the sweetly shared

image.png

Inheritance that is lost in time

The laws establish rules for the distribution of material assets among the heirs, as well as taxes that record what is inherited. But the genetic inheritance is already born distributed among each of the consanguineous heirs, each one receives theirs from the moment of their conception.

In our DNA we bring what belongs to us from the paternal and maternal inheritance, and what father and mother have filtered into their own DNA from the previous generation.

Genetics is a very beautiful science, which as it evolves allows us to know more about what we receive and what we will leave to our children, separately.

But there is also what I call, "DNA-nurture", which explains the similarities between adoptive parents and children, between non-biological siblings and between best friends. It is the development of habits, gestures, frequent words, tendencies to certain types of activities, etc., that have nothing to do with genetics; they owe it all to daily sharing and to the love that makes some be models and others model themselves on them.

ADN

Physically speaking, I owe more traits to my father's family than to my mother. Light hair and eyes, bone structure, skin tone, all from the paternal family. The whole family thought that I was just like my aunt, my father's younger sister. Mom's black hair and dark eyes touched my brother, including his easier tanning.

I inherited my love of reading from both of us, but my intellectual restlessness and creativity are more oriented towards my mother; Despite her manual agility, she also deviated towards my brother, who made wood carvings and was capable of making small miniatures, in other materials.

My hands are slower and although I learned to knit, embroider, sew, design and cut clothes; When I held the fabric in my hands I got quite entangled, however with the design I was doing great. Mom did the entire process and finished delicate garments. I always had to ask for help.

Undoubtedly, many abilities of my ancestors, represented by my mother, "fell by the wayside", as my dear and late father used to say, parodying the saying: What is inheritance is not stolen, which @valrodriguez so beautifully reminds us of in his post.

image.png

Herencia compartida

Dad said: "What is inherited does not stay by the wayside", thus he explained the characteristics that had come to him from his ancestors and from us, from mom and from the person of the. And so he also explained what had not reached us. He really liked playing with language, especially in oral form. I inherited this detail and it "did not stay by the wayside" in the genetic path towards my children, since each one, in their own way, plays with language.

The enjoyment of nature is another value that I lived with my parents and observe in my children. Product of DNA or DNA-breeding? It is difficult in this case to establish the differences, because I see many personal tastes in my adult children, which I also share with my parents.

image.png

Semillas guardadas para otra generación

Love for family is highly significant, I lived it with my parents, I live it with my children, in whom I see that mark firmly traced. I see my father's paternalism (recessively in my person) in the behavior of my eldest son. The sparkling liveliness of my mother (also recessive in my person), I see it reflected in my youngest son.

I thank my parents for everything they left me as an inheritance, it is large and large. And I thank God to see part of it in the people of my children.
