Keeping Tabs

The local chapter of 50501, the movement behind the No Kings protests, had a meet and greet event yesterday at a Trellis Brewing.

So much of organizing is just talking to people, and what better place to encourage that but a local brewery?

Getting to support local businesses in the process is just an added bonus.

Decided to switch things up a bit and took my 85mm prime, see if there were some candid portraits to be found while documenting the shindig.

At protests there's rarely any time to speak to your subjects before or after you trip the shutter, it's always nice to get to meet and speak with the folks you've been shooting for months.

There was plenty of whistles and info on getting involved. 50501 has No Kings 3.0 planned for the end of March, with all that's happening it's looking like that will break the records set by the last one, so even more volunteers are needed.

The event was billed as being from 1700-2000, but who is looking at the clock when you're having a good time? Didn't even up leaving until nearly an hour after things were supposed to wind down.

We were far from the only ones having a time there, with some sportsball fans watching a game, bunch of guys playing Magic, along with the usual neighborhood crowd. One seemingly intoxicated gentleman was even inspired to borrow the megaphone and sing us a song.

There's a paraphrase of Emma Goldman that gets passed off as a quote, "If I can't dance to it, it's not my revolution.” There wasn't enough booze flowing for dancing to start but the sentiment still holds true, which is why there'll be another of these shindigs before long. Until then, remember that there's no such thing as an illegal blood alcohol level on stolen land.

My kind of people! Great shots.

It was a good group of folks. Thank you!

Magic and beer make almost any shindig worth attending.

I was a bit annoyed I'd brought a camera and not a goblin deck.

Goblins, you say?
