Hello to all visual #Hive friends!.... I've been alone in my house during these days and the weather in my town is still a hell of downpours and embracing sun. So I have taken advantage of the fortuitous solitude to dedicate myself to review my photographic archives of the last quarter and select some photos captured in moments of very high contrast. The initial goal was to try to edit the photos in color, but as it usually happens with me, I ended up doing something different from what I planned...
¡Hola a todos amigos visuales en #Hive!... He estado solo en mi casa durante estos días y el clima en mi pueblo sigue siendo un infierno de aguaceros y sol abrazador. Así que he aprovechado la fortuita soledad para dedicarme a revisar mis archivos fotográficos del ultimo trimestre y seleccionar algunas fotos capturadas en momentos de muy alto contraste. El objetivo inicial fue intentar editar las fotos en colores, pero como suele suceder conmigo, terminé haciendo algo distinto a lo planeado...
The excesses of contrast at the moment of capture (something difficult to control for me, since I take pictures in streets and fields) are a real headache at the moment of editing (regardless of whether you are a RAW addict and then have more room for correction).
Los excesos de contraste al momento de la captura (algo difícilmente controlable para mi, pues hago fotos en calles y campos) son un verdadero dolor de cabeza al momento de editar (indistintamente de que seas un adicto al RAW y tengas después mayor margen de maniobra para corregir)...
However, these photographs with extreme contrasts are (in my opinion) quite suitable to break your head editing photo by photo and have a good time experimenting with different editing techniques. On the other hand, I have always loved high contrasts, although I prefer to generate them myself manually by manipulating the image at will and not having to start from a photo where they are already there from the moment of capture.
Sin embargo, estas fotografías con contrastes extremos son (a mi juicio) bastante adecuadas para romperse la cabeza editando foto por foto y pasar un buen rato experimentando con técnicas de edición diversas. Por otra parte, siempre he amado los contrastes altos, aunque prefiero generarlos yo manualmente manipulando la imagen a voluntad y no teniendo que partir de una foto en donde ya estén desde el momento de la captura.
These photos which I share today are diverse in nature but they all have in common to present high contrasts. This can happen in different ways, either due to the sunlight, the light colors of the photographed elements, the presence of shadows and very marked lights in the same visual plane, etc. And it is obvious these are also good photos to be edited in colors, but at the end of the day "I'm a monochromatic editing addict" and that's why I wanted to spend several hours experimenting with these photos.
Estas fotos que comparto hoy son de carácter diverso pero todas tienen en común el presentar contrastes altos. Esto puede suceder de diversas maneras, ya sea debido a la luz solar, los colores claros de los elementos fotografiados, las presencia de sombras y luces muy marcadas en un mismo plano visual, etc. Y es algo evidente que para ser llevadas a color también son buenas fotos, pero al final del día "soy un adicto a la edición monocromática" y por eso quise dedicar varias horas a experimentar con estas fotos.
As I usually do with all my photographic works, each photo was edited differently. A long time ago I deleted all my presets and since then I work this way. Perhaps the only thing they have in common is that, as I always capture them in RAW format, then the initial editing steps are carried out using Adobe Camera Raw. Today I opted to have them come out of there already in black and white and with most of the desired changes already made. So you can say that the black and white photographs "came out of Adobe Camera Raw almost completely finished", but I always use other editors to generate vignettes, lower gamma luminosity and even for straightening (straightening in ACR is a real kick in the ass). So in an anarchic and random way, it is feasible that those JPG photos have suffered later alterations with Photoscape or Photoshop.
Tal como suelo hacer con todos mis trabajos fotográficos, cada foto fue editada de manera diferente. Hace mucho tiempo atrás que borré todos mis presets y desde entonces trabajo así mis fotografías. Quizás lo único que tengan en común es que, como siempre las capturo en formato RAW, entonces los pasos iniciales de edición los llevo a cabo usando Adobe Camera Raw. Hoy opté por hacerlas salir de allí ya en blanco en negro y con la mayoría de los cambios deseados ya realizados. Así que se puede decir que las fotografías en blanco y negro "salieron de Adobe Camera Raw casi totalmente terminadas", pero siempre suelo usar otros editores para genera viñetas, bajar la luminosidad gamma e inclusive para enderezar (enderezar en ACR es una real patada en el trasero). Así que de manera anarquica y aleatoria, es factible que esas fotos en JPG hayan sufrido posteriores alteraciones con Photoscape o con Photoshop.
After having all these photos in black and white version, I had the impression that they still had quite high contrast levels, so I decided to click on the "sepia filter" button in Photoscape while editing one of them. To be honest, the contrast excesses became less aggressive to the eye, but the chromatic result of this "one click" filter seemed pathetic, so I went back to Photoshop and experimented with fading layers with different percentages of yellow tones (this always on the black and white JPG image). From then on I made adjustments to saturation, levels, depth, etc. In an exquisitely anarchic and indiscriminate way (I love how that sounds) until I got results that would take me away from that "typical reddish sepia tone" which I usually find visually shocking.
Después de tener todas estas fotos en blanco y negro, tuve la impresión de que seguían teniendo niveles de contraste bastante altos, así que decidí hacer click sobre el botón del "filtro sepia" en Photoscape mientras editaba una de ellas. Para ser sincero, los excesos de contraste se hicieron menos agresivos a la vista, pero el resultado cromático de este filtro "un solo click" me pareció patético, así que retorné a Photoshop y experimenté con capas de atenuación con distintos porcentajes de tonos amarillos (esto siempre sobe la imagen JPG en blanco y negro). De ahí en adelante me dediqué a hacer ajustes de saturación , niveles, profundidad, Etc. De manera exquisitamente anarquica e indiscriminada (amo como suena eso) hasta obtener resultados que me alejaran de ese "típico tono sepia rojizo" el cual suele resultarme visualmente chocante.

For some years I worked for an audiovisual production company editing photos and videos until the day I got fed up and now I rarely edit my photos, I find it a very tedious job, sometimes when required I modify some parameters but all in simple applications. But photo editing can be a time consuming job, even a little more than taking the picture. Greetings and good captures, all the pictures are spectacular in their precise touch of capturing and editing.
Certainly, photo editing is hard work in most cases my dear friend. I think that -in my case at least- it is a kind of mania, or perhaps a conscious "catharsis"... ;-) ... I got rid of most of my work routines much earlier than usual, now I even play LEGO on an old laptop!... ha ha ha ha... I think I have time to spare! ;)
