Problems with Splinterlands

in Splinterlands3 years ago (edited)

👉 Good Day! I hope that you would read everything written in this article before coming up with violent reactions. Also i will be stating some things that could be done in order to fix this problems. I am an avid supporter of splinterlands, have referred friends and others to play this game and i hope that the issues I've raised here will be heard for the betterment of the community. I will continue to support and promote this game as from experience the devs know how to listen to its community

This is also my entry for this weeks social media challenge, and that being said, if you want to start playing this game you can use my referral code: https://splinterlands.com?ref=beerbod so without further ado, let's get started.

There's too much Bots

image.png
The thing is i am not against bot use. I'm actually happy that this game allows the usage of bots. It has many advantages, like keeping an account active during times when the owner can't play the game as well as provide easy wins for actual players as bots are very predictable.

However i strongly believe that there should be a limit in their usage. We don't want a game that revolves around bots. Another problem occuring here is that some are just over the top and abusive owning hundreds of bot accounts. It creates imbalance and not to mention overpopulation results in lesser resource for all of the community. Ever noticed that from september first, the DEC rewards you get per win has been cut in half

A simple suggestion to fix this issue is to limit the amount of games a bot can play, like limit it to 100 games per week? 24 games per day? i don't know what the number really is, but placing a limit i believe will make it fairer for the entire community. I see splinterlands as a game to be enjoyed by real players and collectors. Rather than an investment vehicle focused on making profit.

Renters Got Screwed

this is from a recent update; you can get all info in this post https://hive.blog/splinterlands/@splinterlands/splinterlands-season-end-updates

image.png

Because the ranking rewards changed from being highest achieved during the course of the season to current rank by end of season, many players have reported ending in the lower leagues and getting lesser chests. Main cause is that their power has been lost due to owners cancelling the cards they were renting out

Ok, so when i started playing SL there were no marketplace rentals. Only way to increase your power is to actually purchase and own cards. It was not affordable for most players I'm one of those. So imagine the happiness we've had learning that a market rental system will be implemented. It gave owners another source of Dark Energy Crystal income, while also allowing lesser spenders to move up in ranks and experience using more powerful decks without having to break the bank

One way to fix this is to have a locked in contract period which will allow the renter to secure his power rating until end of season. Now to be fair to the devs, this is an issue which came up in an effort to fix an existing issue. I totally agree that the ranking by end of season should be the basis of season rewards. There's been abusive behavior where players could just delegate cards to pump up the ranks (via score) of one account, take it back and then re-delegate again to another account. This can be abused and done so many times in the course of the season which is not healthy at all.

Dev's had already commented about this and i am sure they will figure out a solution for this

In Conclusion

What I'm doing here is raising awareness as i find it my way of supporting the game and the people behind it. I tried to be as objective as i can writing down this blog and in no means trying to leave a negative feedback. Its not a rant nor a complaint, but rather a discussion to bring into light certain issues which if people kept silent on can cause a game to die.

SL continues to be a game worthy of playing, every game will have similar or different issues. There's no perfect game. It is what it is. What matters more is the people behind it. Both players and developers. And with confidence i can say that the SL team has continuously proven themselves to be reliable and will work nonstop on creating balance, improving user experience, enforce fairness, and grow the game even further.

soon enough we will all be flying to the....

So i dont see how they can limit the usage of bots and if they wanted to it would be very costly to the company. Next to that they feel that we can use these assest the way we want ourselves and not a company that tells us what to do with the things we own.

Yeah there are challenges and costs involved most likely. Still, it would be a whole lot healthier if limits are to be placed.

I like the way you expressed the issues in this article. I think many of real SL players have the same thought as you.
We need bots but need to limit the bot impact to game.

I think the number of bot now is much higher than the number of real players . So sad :(

Thanks. Yeah i believe we both share the same sentiment. There has to be a limit. As the old adage goes, too much of something is bad.
