Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
Every Splinterlands battle we make, win or lose, has a story with it, which, for a Web3 game, will be forever stored in the blockchain. Every choice of cards, the strategy we use, and the logic behind our counters after the match are then turned into immutable records that will stay on the chain even after we're long gone. However, unless someone digs through it, those will remain nothing but hashes of transactions.
That is why, for this week's Community Engagement Challenge, I want to break down my most recent battles and put them in the spotlight.
Battlefield Rulesets
Before we choose which cards and what strategy to use, the first thing that we need to consider is the active rulesets that can either place certain restrictions on the cards that players can choose or give abilities/debilitations on cards. In the battle that I'm about to show you, there is a 47 mana cap with the Fire and Dragon elements unusable.
Aside from that, there are also three active rulesets in this battle, which were:
Broken Arrows is a ruleset that bans the use of any units that have the range attack, meaning my only option to damage my opponent was to either use melee or magic attacks.
Weak Magic, on the other hand, makes magic damage to hit the armor before it can damage the target's health, much similar to the Void Armor ability.
For the final ruleset comes Are you Not Entertained?, which allows both teams to summon Gladiator cards, which were typically mostly used in Guild brawls or with the use of Chaos Legion soulbound summoners.
Lineup Breakdown
After taking all the active rulesets into consideration, I decided to have a melee-focused team since magic attacks make it not much different from melee attacks, so they need to go through the target's armor first before they can inflict damage, due to the Weak Magic ruleset. And with that, my team is composed of:
Archon: Elias Max Pruitt
With Weak Magic active, having the additional armor from Elias Max Pruitt not only will increase my defense, it can also boost the damage of my melee units with its additional melee damage, and by giving one of my units the Armored Strike and Pierce ability during the tactics phase, I will be also able to use the armor of one of my units to attack my opponent.
Card Units
![]() | For my main tank, I decided to use Silberblade Fighter, since not only does it have a huge amount of armor that can allow it to sustain the damage it receives, it also has the Protect ability that will increase the armor of all ally units, including itself. Aside from that, it has the Flank ability that lets the melee unit that is next to it gain the Reach ability and attack at the second position. |
![]() | For my 2nd unit, I chose Commander Slade, which not only has huge damage, but also has huge armor, while also having the Deflect ability that will make this card immune to reflected and retaliatory damage. It can also reduce the damage of a melee unit it attacks with the Enfeeble ability. |
![]() | In the 3rd position, I placed Nimbledook Explorer which may not be able to attack, but will give an additional armore on all my units. |
In the 4th position, I placed Venka the Vile, which, despite a melee unit, can attack the front because it has the Charge ability and can also attack once again if it were able to defeat its first opponent with Trample. | ![]() |
Since Gladius cards can be used in this battle, I decided to place Isgald Vorst in the 5th position, which does not affect the card as it can attack the opponent with Opportunity and can increase all of its stats when it defeats the target due to its Bloodlust ability. | ![]() |
For the last unit, I used Shock Trooper in order to increase the speed of all my cards from its Swiftness ability and also served as my backline tank in case I was hit with sneak attacks. | ![]() |
Battle Showcase
Usually, when I use Elias Max Pruitt, I will always place the Armored Strike ability on Commander Slade, which, with increased armor, can inflict a huge amount of damage, but upon seeing the opponent's team and finding that the opponent also has Commander Slade at the first position, which is faster, I decided to placed it instead on Isgald Vorst since it can attack the opponent with the least health, regardless of their position, as well as if it were able to beat the target, it can became more powerful due to it's Bloodlust.
Round 1:
As expected, with the opponent's tank is much faster than any of my units, most of the attacks did not land on it, but with Isgald Vorst able to attack any units, it was able to defeat Daigendark Surveyor using its armor and inflict another 4 damage to Chaos Jailer with its melee attack.
Round 2:
With round 2, not only Isgald Vorst able to defeat Commander Slade, but it was also able to defeat Chaos Jailer and, as a result, gave it a +2 increase on all of its stats.
Round 4:
Fast forward to round 4, Isgald Vorst finally put an end to Kelan Gaines which ends the match. It was lucky that Isgald Vorst's attacks during round 3 missed, because if not, the battle would have ended there. All in all, Isgald Vorst was able to beat 4 units, resulting in +4 increase in all of its stats when the battle ends.

Closing
And that's the breakdown of my latest battle for today. Thanks to the summoner tactics, I was able to change my strategy upon seeing my opponent's lineup, and that decision and flexibility is what led me to win my battle.
Thank you, and see you on the next post!
