Today I would like to showcase a battle that applies a risky strategy that works sometimes. It is the classic one strong monster versus a whole team of small mana monsters in Modern Diamond league.
The Strategy
The strategy here is quite simple have a very strong high damage big mana monster in a very small mana battle. The Battle I am going to showcase today is only seventeen mana.
Normally the strategy used by @beelzael work great, he really put together an excellent team that I would be proud of. However in this case the ruleset beyond the mana amount is really favoring my one big monster strategy.
You see, we have Explosive Weaponry ruleset here where all units have blast or deal an additional fifty percent damage to units adjacent to the target, rounded up. Well if you only have one unit, this ruleset doesn't apply to your team as you cannot damage adjacent units if there are none :)
We also have Collateral Damage ruleset in effect and this means that all units have Reckless or each successful attack also deals one damage to adjacent allied units. Well just like it was the case with the Explosive Weaponry ruleset we don't have any adjacent allied units as we have only one card on the battle field.

For my summoner I picked Elias Max Pruitt, this is a great summoner to play in many high level battles in the Modern Diamond or Champion leagues. This summoner lets you summon units from life and water splinters. It gives your units one armor and one melee attack boost.
Originally I played this unit incorrectly giving my allied units armor repair and cleanse abilities, but other than super rare exceptions I now play this summoner utilizing Piercing and Armored Strike abilities. These two abilities pair perfectly with our one and only card on the field: Commander Slade

Commander Slade is a ten mana Rare Water unit that comes with base stats of five melee damage, seven shield, ten health and six speed. These abilities get boosted by Elias Max Pruitt by adding one to armor and one to melee strike, and armor is now used for the armored strike.
Additionally it comes with a really nice ability set: Backfire, Deflect, Dodge and Enfeeble. This makes Commander Slade really hard to hit and makes him especially deadly with the blast damage ruleset in effect.
Now enough theory and let's see how this will playout on the battle field.
The Battle

So here we have a classic: five small monsters versus one big one. Normally five monsters would be superior to one, but not in this case. So without further delay let's see the battle!

In the first round Beelzael's Kha'zi Conjurer did all the work hitting my Commander Slade twice using his Ambush ability and removing the all important armor from my Commander Slade. The other monsters on his team missed and got damage back from the Backfire.
So at the start of round two we now have four monsters on his team and one on my team. One hit from Kha'zi Conjurer can end the battle.

But third time was not a charm and Kha'zi Conjurer missed his shot and got damage back and as you can see from the picture above in round three Commander Slade should be the first striker and Kha'zi Conjurer could be take out by the Burning.

And as you can see from the image above burning took out Kha'zi Conjurer and the Commander Slade went first and blast from his strike took out the last remaining unit on Beelzael's team.
So just like that it is over...
