SCAVENGER TEAM - SPLINTERLANDS [PT-BR/ENG]

You are also addicted to using cards with Scavenger in your teams of Splinterlands? I really like this ability because of its potential to turn a low health card into a true tank.

Because I like them as much as possible I try to use them and this time I set up a team with three Scavenger cards to ensure that my team was difficult to defeat because of of the high life of the cards. Now let's see if this strategy worked!

There are a total of 16 cards that have the Scavenger ability (considering all levels) but in this particular game I was using the Fire element which has only two cards with this one ability, so to complete it I used a third Neutral card to build this team:

Battle.

With the Melee Mayhem rule in the game it was possible to position my units so that they could attack while staying alive long enough to have their health increased as the weaker units died. Although the idea sounded good we managed to identify a point of serious failure!

Upon receiving the speed debuff, five of my team's cards were left with only 1 Speed and this is a bad offensive indicator because we all know it and it's even a phrase I always repeat:

"dead does no damage".

If my cards die before attacking, then all I have left is to trust that the life gained by Scavenger will be enough to hold on. Right at the beginning of the first round I realized that my speed failure was serious because even though Cerberus was able to perform two attacks and mitigate the life of the Serpentine Soldier, the speed of this card increased to 9 with activation from Enrage and the death of my Creeping Ooze.

And what are the consequences of that? With the enemy tank having so much speed and still the ability Dodge it became almost impossible for my cards to hit him, leaving only the Doctor Blight dealing damage.

The idea of accumulating health worked, however it would only work perfectly if I eliminated the opponent's cards, but as all my units were focusing only on the enemy tank, most of my attacks resulted in Miss. There's no point in accumulating life if you can't deal damage!

Only at the end of the second round the Doctor Blight managed to eliminate the enemy tank but it was too late because the high damage of the opponent's cards was eliminating all my units, leaving only two to try to do something. I think everyone got the message right? If you just tank without doing damage, you will be eliminated!

The rest of the dispute was more of the same: the enemies doing a lot of damage and my units trying to survive with their high lives, but to no avail! This defeat reminded me of the importance of choosing cards with good speed because this stat impacts offensiveness more than we can imagine.

If this was a game with the Reverse Speed rule I'm sure my composition would be perfect, as it would have damage, health and speed in all my units, but since it wasn't... Every detail makes a difference!

We should never overlook these details when building a strategy and even if choosing a team full of cards with Scavenger seems like a great option, you should reflect on the other factors that involve the game and assess whether the rules benefit the chosen cards and whether the context seems favorable.

With each learning experience, we can consider ourselves better players so that we can improve our strategies for the next battles. I'm currently playing in Gold 1 casually and even without making big investments of time and money I managed to get very close to the top of the ranking without intention, this shows that my level of natural gameplay is at an acceptable level and that I can optimize it with due effort. Have you felt your evolution along your journey in Splinterlands?

It seems that your opponent counted on you missing your hits. I am aware of the power of the scavenger ability but from your example, it seems it is one tricky ability to use. 😊

!1UP

I think it was more my fault than really being difficult to use, Scavenger is pretty good and just don't make a mistake as big as ignoring the speed you'll succeed with them! 🤣

I would also agree that Speed is Power. 😊

This ability is a great one, but many chicken died for its use.

Dr Blight with scavenger ability is really broken. He could stay hidden all the way with camouflage and appear at the end with high health. Those poison effect definitely drain the life out of opponents :D Great setup there.

Exactly, at level 3 this set of abilities makes it a practically perfect card

I'm literally halfway through my own video on using scavenger teams! I personally love the opportunity variations that can be run in life, water, or death. That extra health is so huge by the end!
