A lo largo de los años he escuchado muchas veces "no tienes temor de contraer toxoplasmosis por el pelo de tu gato y quedar estéril", todo esto tras mencionar que tengo gatos.

Lo primero que diré antes de comenzar formalmente es que los pelos de los gatos no producen esterilidad y que la toxoplasmosis aunque si puede se trasmite por medio de los gatos no son ellos, el único medio de transmisión, además no todos los gatos son portadores de esta enfermedad.
La toxoplasmosis es una enfermedad producida por un parásito.
Ahora bien, ¿que tienen que ver los mininos con esta enfermedad? Los gatos son los huéspedes habituales de estos parásitos, que sólo puede madurar y convertirse en adulto en el cuerpo de un gato, vive en su intestino y sus huevos llegan al medio ambiente por medio de sus excrementos. Como mencione al comienzo no todos los gatos son portadores, pero ante la desinformación muchas familias abandonan a los gatos al estar embarazada alguna mujer miembro de la familia. El verdadero riesgo radica en contraer la enfermedad durante el embarazo, por los efectos sobre el feto, pero si se ha padeció antes se han creado anticuerpos.

CONTAGIO
🍄 Manipular excrementos de un gato infectado.
🍄 Ingerir carne cruda o poco cocida o embutidos mal curados.
🍄 Utilizar utensilios o tablas de cortar que estuvieron en contacto con carne cruda
🍄 Beber agua contaminada
🍄 Ingerir frutas o verduras sin lavar.
Si bien es cierto que el gato es el único transmisor, existen varios portadores entre ellos nosotros los humanos, así como el cerdo, entre otros, para que un gato se contagie y sea portador de la toxoplasmosis, tendría que infectarse comiendo un ratón, un pájaro , carne cruda contaminada previamente. Aquí haré un paréntesis hace algunas publicaciones les hablé sobre la comida BARF y la importancia de congelar durante al menos dos días la carne cruda para evitar algún tipo de contaminación, aquí ya pueden ver mas gráficamente a que me refería.
Como dato curioso si el gato llegará a contaminarse, solo liberaría el parásito a través de sus excrementos una sola vez durante su vida, unas pocas semanas. Y aunque se contaminara nuevamente no volverá a liberar más el parásito.

PREVENCIÓN
Para evitar que tu gato o tú contraigan esta enfermedad puedes tomar algunas medidas entre ellas:
🍄 No darle carne cruda al minino o congelarla varios días para evitar una posible contaminación.
🍄 Si hay alguna mujer embarazada en la familia evitar que limpie el arenero del felino.
🍄 Comer carnes bien cocidas.
🍄 Tomar agua filtrada o preferible hervida.
🍄 Lavar bien frutas y verduras.
🍄 Lavarse las manos luego de manipular el arenero del gatito o de haber trabajado en el jardín.

TOXOPLASMOSIS

Toxoplasmosis is a disease produced by a parasite.
Now, what do kittens have to do with this disease? Cats are the usual hosts of these parasites, which can only mature and become adult in the body of a cat, live in its intestine and their eggs reach the environment through their droppings. As I mentioned at the beginning not all cats are carriers, but in the face of misinformation many families abandon the cats when a female family member is pregnant. The real risk lies in contracting the disease during pregnancy, because of the effects on the fetus, but if you have suffered before have created antibodies.
CONTAGIOUSNESS

Although it is true that the cat is the only transmitter, there are several carriers among us humans, as well as the pig, among others, for a cat to be infected and be a carrier of toxoplasmosis, it would have to be infected by eating a mouse, a bird, raw meat previously contaminated. Here I will make a parenthesis some publications I spoke to you about the BARF food and the importance of freezing for at least two days the raw meat to avoid some type of contamination, here you can already see more graphically what I was referring to.
As a curious fact, if the cat would become contaminated, it would only release the parasite through its feces once during its life, a few weeks. And even if it were to become contaminated again, it would not release the parasite again.
PREVENTION
To prevent you or your cat from getting this disease you can take a few steps in between:
🍄 Do not give the cat raw meat or freeze it for several days to avoid possible contamination.
🍄 If there are any pregnant women in the family, avoid cleaning out the cat's litter box.
🍄 Eat well-cooked meat.
🍄 Drink filtered or preferably boiled water.
🍄 Wash fruits and vegetables well.
🍄 Wash your hands after handling the kitty litter box or working in the garden.
I hope to have dispelled some myths, also to have provided useful information to others, I retire waiting for your opinions in the commentaries.
