El día de ayer alguien cercano a mi círculo de amistades me invitó a ver sus puerquitos, y esa necesidad de despejar la mente me hizo aceptar la propuesta. Salir de mi municipio te hace disfrutar de la naturaleza, y el aire puro. A pesar de que las condiciones son semiáridas, el verde te hace sentir esperanza.
Yesterday someone close to my circle of friends invited me to see their piglets, and that need to clear my mind made me accept the proposal. Getting out of my town makes you enjoy nature and fresh air. Even though the conditions are semi-arid, the green makes you feel hopeful.
Cuando llegamos a la casa donde están los cerdos, me maravillé con la sencillez de su gente. Un agradable hogar, con niños de campo, con destellos de humildad y ojos de honestidad. Inmediatamente recibí una taza de café, en manos de una niña que feliz se los traía a la visita.
When we arrived at the house where the pigs are, I marveled at the simplicity of its people. A pleasant home, with country children, with glimpses of humility and eyes of honesty. I immediately received a cup of coffee, in the hands of a little girl who happily brought it to the visitor.
Al llegar al patio, allí estaba ella “La gorda” así le decían, y es que es un ejemplar gigante, que en este momento debe tener 12 cerditos en su vientre. A los lados, le acompañaban sus crías, esas que están ayudando a crecer con fines económicos más, sin embargo, ella no se veía atribulada por esa situación.
When we arrived at the yard, there she was, "La gorda", as she was called, and she is a giant specimen, who at this moment must have 12 piglets in her belly. On the sides, she was accompanied by her offspring, those that are helping to grow for economic purposes, however, she did not look troubled by this situation.
A pesar de su pesado cuerpo se levanta la gorda, y se dirige hacia el bebedero de agua, y allí, mirando el paisaje se deleita con cada bocanada de agua que obtiene de un tanque. Tampoco la ví preocupada por la procedencia del agua, si estaba filtrada o no, o si la temperatura era agradable, ella simplemente la tomaba.
In spite of her heavy body, the fat one gets up, and heads towards the water trough, and there, looking at the landscape, she delights in each mouthful of water she gets from a tank. Nor did I see her worrying about where the water came from, whether it was filtered or not, or if the temperature was pleasant, she just drank it.
A pesar de que todos en casa estaban alborotado con la visita, la puerca tan solo era ella. Luego de tomar tanta agua, se giró de medio lado y se recostó, para seguir descansando. Los niños de la casa le acicalaban y ella cerraba sus ojos, emitiendo un sonido fuerte, que tal vez pudiese ser de placer.
Even though everyone at home was in an uproar about the visit, the sow was just her. After drinking so much water, she turned on her side and lay down, to continue resting. The children of the house were grooming her and she closed her eyes, emitting a loud sound, which could perhaps be of pleasure.
Me dije entre mi ¿Por qué no fui una puerca? Esto tal vez podrá atormentar a muchos humanos que disfrutan tanto de su humanidad y confort. Más su tranquilidad y él solo vivir sin pensar demasiado, solo cumpliendo las funciones biológicas, llamó realmente mi atención. Vivimos en un mundo que vive negando su lado animal, y que lo disfraza para destruir el planeta.
I thought to myself, why wasn't I a sow? This may perhaps torment many humans who enjoy their humanity and comfort so much. But her tranquility and just living without thinking too much, just fulfilling biological functions, really caught my attention. We live in a world that lives denying its animal side, and disguises it to destroy the planet.
