La cánula nasal de bajo flujo es encargada de administrar oxígeno en bajas cantidades de flujo como su nombre lo indica al paciente que lo requiere. Es un dispositivo que consiste en un tubo o una manguera plástica la cual es flexible y suave, cuenta con dos puntas las cuales logran adaptarse a las fosas nasales del paciente, debido a que allí es donde permanecerá la salida de el oxígeno.
La cánula nasal de bajo flujo permite un fácil uso, haciendo también muy bien tolerado por el paciente en sus cuidados. Esto se debe a que en la cánula nasal de bajo flujo permite que el paciente pueda hablar, pueda comer, que también pueda dormir y expectorar sin interrumpir la cantidad de oxígeno que está haciendo administrada a través del dispositivo médico.
La cánula nasal de bajo flujo es un sistema que permite administrar oxígeno con una concentración que oscila entre el 24 y 44% mientras que se puede administrar con un flujo qué oscila entre 1 y 6 litros por minuto. Nos recomienda qué se utilice un flujo mayor al anteriormente mencionado debido a que existe el riesgo de ocasionar irritación, dermatitis o sangrado dentro de la cavidad nasofaringea o en su parte externa siendo así las fosas nasales o también conocidas como narinas.
Este es un método que se emplea principalmente como primera terapia en la administración de oxígeno, de acuerdo a cómo el paciente vaya evolucionando se definirá sí requiere de otro dispositivo médico relacionado a la administración de oxígeno o si se mantiene con ese equipo médico, en este caso la bigotera nasal de bajo flujo.
La bigotera nasal de bajo flujo se debe graduar de aproximadamente de 1 a 6 l, en caso de que subamos el litraje de flujo administrado al paciente y éste se encuentre hipoxemico y desaturando sin mejor alguna, es indispensable iniciar con otra terapia de oxígeno cómo lo es la mascarilla simple de O2.
los cuidados de enfermería son indispensables en esta terapia debido a que se debe mantener vigilada si existen zonas de escape del oxígeno administrado en el paciente, de igual manera se debe de evaluar la zona de las narinas en busca de irritación debido a la resequedad que ocasiona el oxígeno, este es una terapia que debe ser administrada con humidificador para evitar las complicaciones anteriormente mencionada.
