These birds are found in Europe, Asia, and Africa; It lives in dry regions, being found in clear forests, areas of fruit trees, vineyards and cultivated fields with groves. Their fur can vary from pink to dark cinnamon and their wings are striped black and white. They feed by inserting their long beak in soft soil or animal droppings in search of insects and their larvae, also nesting in the hollows of old trees. Both sexes are similar, while the young have duller colors.
