I was going through @themarkymark's excellent new tool called Hive Analytics and the Valueplan payouts were naturally where I ended up. I was aware how much is being spent on the Rally car for a while now but seeing it in (dark mode) , it still kind of shocked me. $397,773.34 in total. And we moaned and whinged so much about the ninja mine while we were all on Steem only to now be fluttering away the sister fund on Hive and not batting an eyelid.
We are told we are tapping into the motorsport market that has billions of viewers around the world. Now I am pretty sporty and I watch a bit of Formula 1 but the only guy I know who is into rally cars is my barber. It's kind of a niche sport. One for the proper motor heads. The barber would go home and have his dinner and then spend his night with a spanner under the hood of his 1988 Fort Escort tweaking this and that, taking the engine out and putting it back again, getting it ready for his next big event where he would likely finish last or second last. One thing he wouldn't do is open a laptop and go onto a crypto blog site. To think this rally car will bring people to a blockchain is madness. But the chains main stakeholders are coders. A rare breed. Don't like sunlight. So in the unlikely event of the "Make a Wish Foundation" rally car does attract a new user where are they going to head for? Where would my barber head for? Yes the Rally Community to see more rally cars because this is their thing.
So our $397,773 went on attracting 353 subscribers to which 4 are active and one of them is the driver. 🤣. You have to laugh. Being plagued by a BeeGee. This got me thinking about the other Communities and active users.
What Communities are thriving?
Which Community have retained their user base and are still active on hive?
Did you know there are over 4,000 Communities on Hive. That's alot. So I just listed the top 100 most active. This is the first time I wrote a script in python to retrieve the Hive data. I am very proud of myself. Below is data taken from 18.09.2025. Now the rank is not ranked by total subscribers. Most have left. I am looking at the active users. Now before we go into the detail I will point out that I am all for Communities getting DHF funding to grow on Hive. I would much prefer this than giving money to individuals and watch them walk away into the night. But are the most active communities getting the funding? Lets have a look.
Hive Communities ranked by Active User
Summary
So the stats above tell us that the @leofinance Community is well are truly the number 1 Community on the Hive Blockchain with 758 active users which is impressive. Some of these users are of course micro bloggers but this is the way the world is going and they looked to have adapted. Well done to them for attracting users to Hive. Leo did submit a DHF proposal of their own to onboard new users and which was passed and they received a total of around $231,238 to do it. It looks like the plan worked as it is indeed the top community.
It surprised me that @actifit were number 2 with 588 subscribers. I have always thought @actifit are onto something here with their sports project and getting paid to do a run would blow Strava out of the water. Maybe it is time we embrace it rather than calling them shitposts all the time (myself included). Actifit also got funding from the DHF which adds up to a total of $129,418. Compare them to Leo and it looks like this funding worked as well.
@ecency is in number 3 spot with 472 active users and a really well known mod group that are very active in their community. It is also the best mobile platform by a long shot on Hive. I use it daily and it is excellent. They received so far $627,072 from the DHF fund. If I was to recommend any platform to post on it probably would be them or Peakd so I would have no major problem with these guys getting funding to keep their platforms fresh and clean and well maintained. Now 627k may be pushing it but I am not sure when the funding started etc so it may be over a long period.
@worldmappin is in 4th spot with 425 his excellent Community which has some of the most interesting posts we have on Hive and it has given me a few holiday ideas. It gets a small pot from the DHF but compared to the rest it is a drop in the ocean with funding of around 17k so far.
It is interesting that @snaps has more active users than subscribers. Are Hive users mixing them up with the new kid on the block @snapie or do they just use the Peakd extension and not subscribe. I am not sure. Anyway 288 subscribers with 410 active users. I presume @snaps is funded from the peakd DHF funding pot.
We have the Photography lovers Community in at number 6 , Liketu at number 7,and the popular Community GEMS at number 8, Lifestyle and Hive Learners make up the top 10. We also see new microblogging @snapie making an appearance in the top 100 after the successful launch of their ios app. You can see yourself the top 100. At 61st for example we go under Communities with 100 active users. I voted for @snapie in the DHF funding proposal and it looks like they are way ahead of what they have promised with a nice clean platform.
The Communities receiving funding have more active users obviously. Correct me if I am wrong but is Photography Lovers at number 6 the first Community on the list not to be funded in some kind by the DHF? Maybe someone could get back to me around this? It could be that their community owners are getting some kind of funding but I am not aware.
I was surprised that @splinterlands has 12,759 subscribers but are not even in the top 10 active users. They have 264 active users ranked in 11th place. This used to be or could have been Hive's golden goose. It still should be in a way but Rexy has long since left the building and was replaced by a Ford Focus as the face of Hive. There was holy war last year when Splinterlands applied for DHF funding only to not get over the line initially. Having finally got over the return proposal for funding they have received 415,623 HBD from the DHF pot ,one can now see both sides of the debate about giving funding to a game linked to Hive but not really active on Hive anymore.
@ladiesofhive are only 11 active users behind Splinterlands for example which is a credit to their Community. I think the @ladiesofhive has the most potential for growth out of all the Communities. Now this is an Community that has so much upside potential.
Compare this to the SWC Community which is the GYM Street Workout cabal earning an all time total of $194,058.03 from Valueplan. Add this to their old Valueplan funded account @marscrea $160.124.42 and we get total funding of $354,182.45. This makes it the 2nd most funded project by Valueplan. The SWC Community sit in 73rd place in the active users Community with 80 active users. And you wonder why people are asking questions about Valueplan. SWC should be applying for DHF funding like the other Communities. Why are they so special? It screams "jobs for the boys". But at least the Hive Community can have peace of mind that they are safe swinging over these bars of theirs with the replenishment of their first aid kit costing the Hive Community 4692.85HBD over a 10 month period. We are talking about the most expensive first aid kit on the planet. I ran this by a paramedic friend and he split his sides laughing. He was asking if there is a defibrillator included at these prices and How the hell did we run out of that many bandages / plasters if they have a 3 year use by date. 😂
In fairness to the Vibes Community which is still relatively new compared to the others are in a respectable 17th place. Vibes is a music competition initiative it has attracted over 5,000 subscribers and has 201 active users . They have received 55,900 HBD to help with their prize fund of 1100 HBD per week. Now that they are established maybe it is time to draft their own DHF proposal like Leofinance, Actifit, Splinterlands and Worldmapping so they are not under the shady Valueplan umbrella anymore. They have some major backers in their post rewards so it should get through easily enough.
Just to put things in perspective. There are 285 Communities ahead of the Rally Community in terms of active users. I had thought actually it would be further down the list of 4000 Communities.
In fact there are only 478 active Communities with more than 0 active users. Rank 479 and below have 0 active users which means 3,638 are empty vessels.
Overall with the amount of funding for some of these Communities, the figures are still stark . I was surprised how little active users they actually are on Hive. . I did an exercise the other day looking at accounts to follow who are actively posting. I wanted to check who some of my active buddies were following to see if I am missing out on some good posts. Seeing that @meesterboom hasn't posted about El Jefe in a while, I had to go and get my fix elsewhere. But there wasn't many that I was already following. We are a pretty small group of individuals on Hive and most names by now ring a bell which is why I wanted to do this exercise in the first place. Microblogging is most likely the future so funding the likes of @snapie and @snaps makes sense. For some of the others it does not make sense and hopefully some Communities will see from above that they have a good argument to apply for their own funding to increase their users.
I told @themarkymark yesterday that I read a stat recently that a major retailer lost an average of $60 to the average shoplifter. But they lost $60,000 on average to dishonest employees. It looks like the witnesses have the external scambots and shit posters under control by downvotes but it is now imperative that they look into some of the DHF funding and argue it out.
Let me know what your thoughts.
I would either.
The best marketing for a social media platform that pays for content is to pay for content well.
Individuals who say “I earn 1000$ a month with my content” will attract thousands of people. That’s how "centralized Hive", Medium.Com, works - the best authors earn thousands $, the rest dream to be like them. As a result, 1 million people pay a 5$ subscription fee monthly (2024), many more use it for free.
There is also substack that works in a similar business model.
Yeah, I know but never researched it deeply, only created an account. As I heard, many journalists blog there.
I lot of wannabe fiction authors too. I posted some of my short stories there but got absolutely zero views or engagement. Seems like discovery is crappy over there too.
You should try Medium perhaps. I posted several photo travel stories on Medium - got some engagement - 100-200 claps (likes) and 1-4 comments but never tried their partnership program since I don't belong to the list of countries Stripe works with. Medium has "communities" - publications which are a sort of e-magazines (an example: https://medium.com/catness ), that's the first step - read stuff on medium, note where they successfully post stories like yours, contact those publications to get accepted - some are stricter, some accept new people. Ask ChatGPT to give you a list of medium publications to start with. Publications have some audience, including people who want to engage - probably, that engagement can be helpful to signal Medium algos that your post is good - the algo will show your post to a wider audience. The luckiest get promotion through Medium emails, etc. but that's considered a dream.
Starting with publications is a good thing since you 1) can choose ones that fit your tastes 2) you can look what the chosen ones like and what they publish and try to follow the format.
Learning Medium and Substack is useful anyway as these platforms are places Hive can onboard people and where we can learn a lot to enhance Hive.
I have a big back catalogue of writing here on HIVE - so it is certainly something that I can pursue in the future. Thanks for the detailed information.
I have been using Stripe in my photography business, and plan to continue that, as well, there are few other options as simple in Australia. (other than cash, hand to hand) - as sadly, it is one of those "hyper-local" business models - but my writing doesn't have to be that :)
👀👀[Signs up for Medium]
Lol. No easy money there! And not soon and "probably maybe". But they sell a dream - to be a full-time creator, a writer, and earn enough for living in the West. We could learn a lot from them and onboard from them content creators who want an alternative.
The only way to market in my opinion is a centralised structure with marketing people . I’m sure Medium has a head of marketing or head of strategy. Someone who knows what they are doing.
Spot on 🙏
Cheers @uwelang 🙂
How often that I did suggest and discuss we need proper marketing and a marketing official, we even need a "Hive face" to the outside for PR - but we only say "not possible, we are de-central and community driven....." - i gave up but certain useless fundings are indeed annoying
Have you tried fun mode?
https://hiveanalytics.usehive.com/valueplan-spending
I think a better name would be 'triggered' mode!
HAHHAHAHAHAHA . You got it wrong though @themarkymark . It rarely gets to the finish line. 😜
SWC is a land of plebians
getting 0.1 author rewards there is like a lifetime achievement
I wonder how much DHF they need to get before their SWC-curation able to vote $1
We had them in our incubation for a while, but there was suspicious activity that made us not wanna continue curate/support the community so we had to remove them from the ocd incubation. There was also some drama between the athletes and the "ceo" about use of funds or lack thereof probably from the DHF, but seems like that just kept on going.
That being said I don't really know anything about it, it's a lot of heresay.
If it looks like a duck , quacks like a duck.it is indeed a duck. I think you were dead right to not to continue.
I think it was the right decision. It's kind of useless supporting a community that doesn't have a clear objective where they are going to.
6 cent posts but a treasure trove of plasters 🤣🤣🤣
There's a common saying when it comes to motorsport? What's the best way to make a million dollars in motorsport? Start with ten million dollars!
Funny you post this, given the comments I made on crimmy's annual post about hive needing to be about content, and content being the draw card.
We are sharing so much of the same cloth in our recent thought patterns that I am beginning to fear that our consciousness might be quantumly entangled.
Great, under-rated post.
There's me aul bestie Australian witness Hagrid popping in. Good to see ya. I like that saying. I may use it on every post for the next decade. 🤣 Must have a look at the golden girls post. Quantunmly entangled in a hetrosexual consciousness way of course. 😄
Reporting live from the witness room, oh gawds, my hair and now my beard are stuck in the cooling fan! Help me, step bro!
I must remind myself that this post is immutable.
There should be a spell for that . If only you hadn’t been expelled from Hogworths!
Commendable work here M8!
I hope some whale folk start looking at the spending you are highlighting.
Imagine what could be done for Hive if DHF and valueplan allocated funds with more precision and expectation.
Thanks mate. Yeah I see Splinterlands has someone running their DHF fund. I reckon we could do with one. Full time job. 60,000 a year. They would pay for themselves. One of the die harders who can't be bribed.
I think we do need to look at our funding. All of the moneys given out get cashed out mostly and that just be the number one reason the hive price cannot move upwards.
Vibes surprises me, with all the money going there you think it would have been bigger but alas no.
I need to get back posting. I keep saying I will but life keeps humping me up the arse!
Yeah for fuck sake. I am after reading your last post about 20 times. El Jefe must have you doing 20 projects. 🤣 . I haven't looked into the mechanics yet but the Community polling scares me on Vibes. The GYM Street kids will be mad learning a their E minor chord for a melancholy number. Vote for PEDRO
E minor strummed whilst wearing a wife beater, that's a winner!!
. A wifebeater and muscly arms 🤣🤣🤣. Vibes always bring me back to one of my all time favourite clips. The confidence of this man . https://www.reddit.com/r/ireland/s/7cDQXHhYkG.
Lol, I didn't think a sax could make those sounds and thank fuck cameras have stabilisers in them now!
We need to do more to measure spending growth by KPI. That way we can see where the good money is going and do more of it and see where the bad money is going and do less of that. Talent land and Cripto Latin Fest are both events that have b clear costs and a clear number of onboards, well documented on chain. I wish other initiatives would do this. They probably don’t since once the community sees how dismal their onboarding numbers are, they will demand refunds
Yeah some of these conference I am seeing are done right lately which is good to see . I don’t like the legacy funding such as the Gym Street Crew . There a massive case of chancing the arm here with no KPI . The KPIs have to be measurable . Otherwise they should not be entertained .
Totally agree. SWC have zero KPI’s that I’m aware of. No sign ups, where are the results? Time to stop sending good money to unproductive projects and direct it to projects that are at least coordinating and have KPIs to show results of where our money is being spent
We are very happy we made it on the list. Thanks for letting us know. Its a pleasure to have you stopping by to give you holiday ideas. Feel free to share some of your own travel adventures @blanchy. Cheers
I am In the trenches at the moment with two small kids but I shall put up in the unlikely event I go anywhere for the rest of 2025 .
😎🤙 we understand. Of course, whenever you feel like it 👍
The thing is $400k is nothing in the world of advertising. The big brands that you see at major sporting events have marketing budgets measured in the billions so this was never likely to be a successful ploy. Imagine how much crypto.com pay to be on every damn electronic board at every football match that anyone cares to watch.
I don’t think that niche is the issue. In fact niche might be the way to go. Make Hive a home for those communities that don’t belong elsewhere. How you engage with them and get them to locate here is the real question and I can’t imagine that driving a car past them at high speed with a non-descriptive brand like ‘Hive’ is going to have much success.
In regards niche communities I’m happy to put myself forward to establish the Scandinavian All Women’s Mud Wrestling community. I’ll need a small amount of funds for the flight to Sweden, hotels and the cost for a course of antibiotics on my return but I’m otherwise ready and quite literally happy to get my hands dirty for the betterment of Hive.
I think it's the disconnect between hive userbase activity and the DHF funds that's a problem. Big brand advertising is fine but we need to be big before that can exist, not spend ~2m hive on a rally car when we have no rally enthusiasts here that could even welcome potential rally fans. Our $400k at this marketcap is like if Dogecoin would spend $400m.
For sure and I think what you guys are doing on Reddit is definitely the way to go.
🤣 The Scandinavian All Women's mud wrestling" is a great idea and I will happily partner up with you but I think it would be more in your line to form a cricket community. Crowd of toffs drinking all day don't have much better to do but make a Hive post during it 😃
The suggestion that all cricket fans are toffs shocked me and the cricket community so much that our monocles all simultaneously fell out.
🤣🤣🤣 you fell off your Penny Farthing
Superb post. I am reminded of a pic I once saw of a poor fella suffering from Elephantiasis (Tsetse Fly disease) that had to have a wheelbarrow to carry his testicles, because you must need a wheelbarrow to pack your big balls around.
I give it 9/10, detracting 1 only for the reason that your inevitable chart has no labels aside from the one for the rally car. Only the fact that you discuss several of the numbers visually represented in the chart in the OP text prevented me from getting out a tape measure and comparing the length of the unlabeled bars with the one that was labeled. That's how triggered I was, aghast and agog at unlabeled data. But that's my own OCD in operation, and I'm sure most people are fine with a visual sense of the actual metric.
My understanding of the utility of DV's for this purpose is that DV's have little to no effect on scams, because scams don't profit from upvotes but from scams, and DV's don't touch their illicit gains from their frauds. Marky hisself, the master DV'er on Hive, explained this to me, to my surprise at the time. Neither do DV's have much effect on spam and shitposts, as both of those have other goals than income from blogging.
DV's only have substantial impact on those that do have income from blogging as a goal. DV's control growth of users and distribution of Hive tokens, suppressing both metrics and maintaining the centralization of Stake in whales that have maintained a majority of stake and thereby control the witnesses and the code that is run since the platform forked off Steem. That majority of stake controls the witnesses and the DHF, which provides a potential profit motive for unreasonable expenditures on VP that are not accounted for with GAAP (generally accepted accounting procedures), and thus can be captured by principals of the VP through bog standard kickbacks without fear of detection by tracking expenditures and in whose wallet they end up.
Your final point, that the internal threat of financial harm is extremely far more concerning than from external actors seeking to defraud the DHF, is spot on. My assessment after discussing this with principals in Valueplan, such as GP and LB, is that risk is exigent, as both those parties have flatly refused to account for their expenditures to Hive generally, and LB was the most remarkably defensive actor I have ever encountered, like a child caught with their hand in a cookie jar.
Thanks!
I'm dead chuffed with a 9/10 from a learnt colleague like you @valued-customer and of course the big ball reference. I have no real skin in the game bar my modest Hive Power , its very much a hobby, I don't frequent Discord much so I don't have any witnesses allegiances. Interesting about the downvotes explanation, I'm surprised myself about that.
people use the term 'scam' very loosely and it encompasses all sorts of things. Rarely are scams related to post rewards.
There were the bot farms that @sherlockholmes used to investigate before they fell off the map. Perhaps he trod on toes that wouldn't tolerate his tread. Anyway, you're indeed the expert, and I believe you.
I just don't consider vote farms and Hive abuse a scam, it's more just bad behavior. Things like bellyrub and magic dice are a scam. Just nomenclature. But people love to throw around scam on everything, when most of the time it isn't appropriate.
Not sure what happened with @sherlockholmes, I don't think many really can do this for more than a few minutes before they lose their mind or give up. It's not like there is money in it, unless you are Hive Watchers.
😍
Is there any chance of looking at the age of those 738 active Leofinance accounts?
I shall crank up the tinternet tonight and find out. Is this in relevance to their move to Arbitrum? Would like to find out that myself ?
I'd like to know how many of those accounts are new - I was thinking more about pre and post DHF funding, but effect of Arbitrum would be good, too.
I meant to say earlier that some of these communities are supported by @ocd, not to the tune of DHF funding, but they are getting support.
OCD Communities incubation program
I love the leofinance community
Before was the spendhbd group
Since I love tech, I move all in to leofinance
oh yeah @pavick1011 ? what do you like about it?
being able to post in threads, it gives the same vibes as Twitter
I think the Grilling and Smoking community on HIVE is severely underrated, but I am a bit biased on that one! If I wasn't afraid to do video content I would start my own page and see if I could write a DHF proposal to get the equipment like a nice smoker and a couple more grills, etc. It would only be like 3000 which honestly is a drop in the bucket. The only problem would be paying tax when I move it to fiat.
I guess you would have to include an element for the tax in the proposal?
And maybe the fees for some video training? 😁
Yeah, maybe. It would probably still be less than most the other proposals out there.
@bozz that’s a great idea . Your proposal would cost less than a first aid kit. You would have us all with our tongues hanging out with the hunger 🤣🤣🤣.
Yeah, except I suck at video content. Nobody wants to see that!
Congratulations @blanchy! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain And have been rewarded with New badge(s)
Your next payout target is 16000 HP.
The unit is Hive Power equivalent because post and comment rewards can be split into HP and HBD
You can view your badges on your board and compare yourself to others in the Ranking

I can make a video of me spending HBD in my local shop, just send the $200k over and I will get started right away.
It better be the good whiskey in that basket!!!
Theres always good whiskey in my bag. Apologies to the residents of Dublin when I drank the cheap stuff years ago and vomitted out of the car window.
As the old saying goes “you haven’t really seen Ireland until you vomited out a car window” . I had a Breman man visit me a while ago and he was doing the same dropping him to the airport . The brother was grim .
I believe it is a lot more than that. He isn’t the only one being funded for the Rally car.
Are you talking about the videography end of things? . Nice little number that. Who is the wingman by the way or is he a homeless? 🤣
I think there is another $100-200k distributed to other users that is related to the Rally car. I haven’t really been paying attention as it makes me throw up a little in my mouth thinking about it. I do have planned an alternative view of the Value Plan data via project but I haven’t tested it out yet. @guiltyparties would know best as he is in charge of this amazing project.
