Welcome, Zagonauts! 🧩🚀

This is your first official challenge — and it’s about something very mysterious...

A word you've probably never seen before. Something new. Something strange. Something... Hive-born! 🤗

❓ But seriously... What exactly is a “Zagonaut”?

Here’s the deal:

We made it up. 😅 And now you get to define it.

Your mission now is to tell us:

What you think the word Zagonaut means.
Where do they come from?
What do they do? What do they wear? What do they solve?

Are you a Zagonaut?

🚀 Need a hint? You might notice something strange about the word... Maybe it sounds like something? Maybe it’s made of two words? Maybe from two languages?

We're not saying anything more. Let your imagination do the work.

Sort:

In Nigeria and other parts of West Africa, zago means (among other things) small intestine. And the suffix, naut, is a sailor or voyager. So zagonauts spend their time travelling around the small intestine.

Though this is far from glamorous, they can play a very important role.

Let's suppose you have a pastry intolerance. So you think your safe ordering peas. And distracted while you're eating. You suddenly realise that you've eaten pies by mistake.

Don't panic! Just call in the zagonauts. Before you can say, "Keith's an idiot," the zagonauts magically turn the 'i' to an 'e' and the 'e' to an 'a'.

It's an instant cure for Irritable Vowel Syndrome!

P.S.

Kinda cute, huh?

Ahahahhaha, I must say, your explanation is so brilliant! Now I am little disapointed at myself because the real answer will be more dictionary and less intestine-travel. :D
Still, you made it clear that zagonauts are the real unsung heroes of the alphabet. I mean, who else would sail through someone’s guts just to save us from vowel disasters?

Thank you so much for this comment! "It made me laugh for half an hour." :D

You never really know how someone is going to react to something like that. But your reaction is perfect. Thank you so much.

Zagonauts It reminded me of the Argonauts from Greek mythology who followed Jason in his hunt for the Golden Fleece.Their ship was called the Argo, so Argonauts means sailors from Argos.
But I see that the second part of the saying comes from astronauts and not from argonauts
But the first part of the saying took me back to the Greeks
Where zagora (ζαγορά ) means market, means travelers of the market ( market travelers )
Or did I get lost in the search for the golden fleece :)

I like your answer! 😄 As I mentioned before, there are no wrong answers here -> only fun detours on the way to the truth ✓. You brought Greek into the story (great touch!), and I’m guessing you might be from Serbia like me… which is extra exciting, because the most accurate solution is actually hiding right inside the Serbian language. 🧐 That’s your next clue!

So let’s keep the sails up, fellow Zagonauts — who else wants to take a shot at cracking this one? The market is still open for new “travelers”! 🚀👩🏼‍🚀❓🤨🧮

I would guess it would be a fan of whatever zago is.

👀 Interesting guess! :D
Maybe you're onto something here.. or maybe the answer lies in how the word sounds — or what it's made of? Zago...something plus astronauts maybe? Oops, did I said too much?

Zagonauts surely have something to do with solving things, that is a 100% true. And their name is a little puzzle itself. 🧩

If "nauts" in Zagonauts came from English word "astonauts", where "zago" part came from? Which word of which language? 🤗 We are so closeeeee.

Anyone with some idea? What can it be? 🤗

Anyone else? Is there someone brave enough to build on Keith’s fantastic answer above—or maybe offer a completely different theory? :D

One thing’s for sure: we’re dealing with a mix of two languages. One of them is clearly English (you probably noticed that too), but what’s the very first word in this mysterious blend?

Place your bets, language detectives! 🕵️‍♂️📚

In Serbian, "zago" is a colloquial term that means "problem" or "trouble." (Yes, I read your intro, finally!) So I'm going to go with…

Anyone else want to take a guess?
Come on, don’t be shy. There are no wrong answers here, only guaranteed fun! 😄
