RE: Unlocking the Precious Gems

No, that's not how it works. The subscription model is only one account per member of the community.

Precious 1.0 had 0% requirement for subscribers to post about precious metals and the initial Precious 2.0 had 100% requirement for subscribers to post about precious metals. This change is about finding a middle ground so that (at least) 50% of supported posts need to be about precious metals.

Sort:

"One account per member of the community". No problems.
Let's suppose that a member writes two posts daily on his/hers account. The first one uses the #silvergoldstackers tag and is about precious metals. He is upvoted and gains one Precious Gem. The second article, hours later, is about anything and it doesn't use the tag. According to what you wrote in the article above, this second post would use the Precious Gem and would be upvoted too. That way the member would receive two upvotes daily, using the same account.
Am I wrong?
@buggedout

No, that is correct as long as a minimum of 12 hours has passed between the posts.

In short, it is possible to get 2 votes a day and split your daily allocation in half if you time it right. With the Precious Gems feature one could be about metals and the other about anything. As long as there is some quality in the posts that is a fine way to go if you choose.

The idea of getting two votes a day, splitting the daily allocation in half is prone to abuse. For example, a member delegated 2500HP or sent the hive equivalent and receives a maximum of 100% vote from Precious. To him/her, it is no use to post twice a day for he/she cannot receive more than a 100% upvote daily. Now, if this member reduces the delegation or the hive equivalent, just to receive a 50% upvote, he/she will receive it twice a day. It is not fair to expend half the HP or hives monthly and receive the same total daily upvote that another member, who spent the full HP or hives, receives.
So, instead of using this 12 hours interval, let's make it simple, not abusable and according to what you wrote on the article above:
The member posts today using the tag and receives the Precious Gem. Today he/she will not receive any other upvote from Precious. Tomorrow he/she will receive his/her due upvote, irrelevant if he/she used or not the tag and will not receive any other upvote tomorrow. And that goes on. You write about precious metals, you receive one Precious Gem (you can only have one PG at any time) and you use it the next time you write a tagless post, never receiving two upvotes on the same day.
Of course, if you do not post for a few days, you have Precious's votes accumulating in value, but this does not affect the idea behind Precious Gems.
@buggedout

Now, if this member reduces the delegation or the hive equivalent, just to receive a 50% upvote, he/she will receive it twice a day.

That is not how the Vote Accruals work. If you post after only half a day then you only get half that days allocation. It is not open to abuse the way you describe.

We are very focused on preventing abuse and will have our eyes open. If you see any abuse please let us know.

I repeat: twelve hours intervals are prone to abuse, according to all that you stated in all the above comments and in the main article. I will show now a situation that is totally legal and it is an abuse.
Until today I receive a 100% upvote daily, no matter at what time I post and no matter the number of articles using the tag (at least one). Right?
Day 1: I will post an article using the tag at, let's say, 6 AM. I will receive my 100% upvote and a Gem. At 6:01 PM I will post anything, not using the tag. So, I will receive a 50% upvote.
Day 2: I will post an article using the tag at 7 PM. I will receive my 100% upvote and a Gem.
Day 3: I will post an article using the tag at 6 AM. I will receive my 100% upvote. At 6:01 PM I will use the Gem and will receive the 50% upvote.
Day 4: Same as Day 2.

Do you remember why you had to change the 23 hours minimal interval for the bot to upvote an account?
Because fixed time intervals are always prone to abuse. That is why Precious votes once a day, no matter at what time the post was published.

I propose, again, what I wrote above:
"The member posts today using the tag and receives the Precious Gem.
Of course, if you do not post for a few days, you have Precious's votes accumulating in value, but this does not affect the idea behind Precious Gems."
@buggedout @welshstacker

I'm sorry Ron but you are not understanding how the Vote Accruals work.

In your example, on Day 3 you do not receive a 100% upvote at 6AM. In fact you would not receive a vote at all because only 11 hours has passed since your last vote and there is a 12 hour minimum between votes. If you posted at 7:01 AM on Day 3 (extra minute to be safe) then you would receive only a 50% vote - not 100% as only 12 hours has passed since the last vote which is 50% of a day.

There is not fixed time intervals, there is only a minimum time for Vote Accruals to build up between votes. This is a seperate feature to the Precious Gems which are just to ensure that at least every 2nd post needs to be relevant content on the tag.

I hope this makes it clearer, but I encourage you to test out your abuse scenarios because we will be watching and if you find one then we will look to address it because we don't want the community account to be abused.

Until today I receive a 100% upvote daily, no matter at what time I post and no matter the number of articles using the tag (at least one). Right?

Actually, this is not right either. It was the case before Precious 2.0 but not now. Maybe you have not noticed but the other day you got a 98% vote because it hadn't quite been a full day since the vote before that.

You are usually very diligent and post at almost the same time every day so the vote accrual change has not really effected you very much so that's why you might not have noticed.
