My city Kerch always was considered to be ONE of the most ancient cities in the world. its age is more than 26 centuries.
Though in my country Kerch wasn't recognized as the most ancient city. There were some other cities what competeted with it for this title.
But finally Kerch won this history "battle", and now I can say that I'm writing this post living in THE MOST ANCIENT city in Russia. Officially;)
"There is irrefutable evidence that the history of Kerch is greater than is commonly believed today," Olga Solodilova, head of the Kerch City Council, says.
The city of Kerch dates back to 620 BC. e. (the last quarter of the 7th century BC), since then, when in the process of Greek colonization in the Northern Black Sea region a number of policies appeared.
The most significant was Panticapaeum, founded on the top of Mount Mithridates by the Greeks of Asia Minor, people from Miletus.

that what is left from the great Panticapaeum....now we know its age....is still anything left??? Miracle!
Being the capital of the Bosporus kingdom, the first state formation on the territory of modern Russia, the city left a noticeable mark in ancient history.
In the Middle Ages, Kerch, under various names, consistently belonged to the Byzantine Empire, the Khazar Khaganate, under the name "Korchev" - to the ancient Russian state, was one of the Genoese outposts on the Crimean Peninsula and a Turkish fortress on the territory of the Crimea

Turkish fortress of the XVI cent.
Still left in Kerch but closed for visitors now (5 years ago we could enter there free)
In the Soviet era, from a small town of Kerch, it turned into the largest industrial center of Crimea.
On September 14, 1973, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR "for outstanding services to the Motherland, mass heroism, courage and fortitude shown by the defenders of Kerch and the soldiers of the Soviet Army, Navy and aviation during the Great Patriotic War ..." the city was awarded the highest degree distinctions - the title of "Hero City" with the award of the Order of Lenin and the medal "Gold Star".
Adzhimushkay quarry - one of the most famous monuments of the war and one of the most tragic - local people hid here from the Nazis for several months without food and water supplies
As a result of the events of the Crimean spring of 2014, after 60 years of being part of the Ukrainian SSR and Ukraine, Kerch returned to the bosom of the Russian state.
And now Kerch is being actively developed and rebuilt to become more and more nice and comfortable for local people and guests of the city.
Hello from Kerch, guys!๐๐
Congratulations on hailing your place as the Most Ancient City. Indeed Russia is one of the most sought countries around the world.
๐thank you!
The Adzhimushkay quarry is a place that has a really sad story. Though the photography is amazing. It makes us feel really sad to think about the local people who had to hide there from the Nazis. They didn't have any food or water for many months, would be very suffer. It reminds us how terrible war can be. We should always remember and respect the courage of those who had to go through such incredibly tough times.
do you know know this place??
have you ever heard about it?
