From the beginning of the pandemic until 2023, I had taken domestic vacations towards end of the summer season due to the pandemic and economic crisis. I don't like the vacation format that goes between hotel, sea and foods anyway. I want to explore new places as much as possible. Last year, I realized the Aegean tour that I had planned long before. I could not travel all over the Aegean, but in this travel post series, I write about the places I could visit in detail in the Aegean. The twelfth of those is Ilıca, Alaçatı and Çeşme holiday resorts, which are located in İzmir province.

Pandeminin başlangıcından 2023 yılına kadar, pandemi ve ekonomik kriz nedeniyle yurtiçinde yaz sezonu sonlarına doğru tatile çıkıyordum. Zaten otel deniz ve yemek arasında geçip giden tatil şeklini sevmiyorum. Mümkün olduğunca yeni yerler keşfetmek istiyorum. Geçen yıl uzun zamandır yapmayı planladığım Ege turunu gerçekleştirdim. Ege’nin her yerini gezemedim ama bu gezi yazısı serisinde sizlere Ege’de detaylı gezebildiğim yerlerden bahsedeceğim. Bunlardan on ikincisi İzmir ilinde bulunan Ilıca, Alaçatı ve Çeşme tatil yerleridir.
The weather was slowly starting to get dark. After visiting Priene Ancient City, we continued on our way to the next destinations Ilıca, Alaçatı and Çeşme, without taking a break. We arrived at the square in Ilıca marked "Atatürk ∞" two hours later. After parking the car here, we rested for a while and started looking for a fine hotel on the internet. We would to stay here only for one night. We found a good hotel in Alaçatı and went towards Alaçatı. After leaving our belongings, we had something to eat in Alaçatı. We both came to Alaçatı for the first time. Even though the season was over, Alaçatı was still alive. Accomadation, food and beverage prices were not as high as we expected. After taking an evening walk in Alaçatı, we went to the hotel and rested.
Hava yavaş yavaş kararmaya başlamıştı. Priene Antik Kenti’ni ziyaret ettikten sonra mola vermeden bir sonraki destinasyonlarımız olan Ilıca, Alaçatı ve Çeşme’ye doğru yola devam ettik. İki saat sonra Ilıca’daki “Atatürk ∞” yazan meydana varmıştık. Arabayı burada park ettikten sonra biraz dinlenip internetten uygun bir otel aramaya başladık. Burada sadece bir gece kalacaktık. Alaçatı’da bir tane uygun otel bulduk ve Alaçatı tarafına doğru geçtik. Eşyalarımızı bıraktıktan sonra Alaçatı’da birşeyler yedik. İkimiz de Alaçatı’ya ilk defa gelmiştik. Sezon bitmesine rağmen Alaçatı halen canlıydı. Otel ve yiyecek içecek fiyatları da beklediğimiz kadar yüksek değildi. Alaçatı’da akşam yürüyüşü yaptıktan sonra otele geçip dinlendik.
We had breakfast at a patisserie in the morning, then we went to Çeşme. I can say that the distance between Ilıca, Alaçatı and Çeşme takes 5-10 minutes by car. Left the car somewhere in Cumhuriyet Square, we walked from Atatürk Boulevard to Çeşme coast. Since it was morning hours and off season, Çeşme center was not too crowded. We walked to Çeşme marina, then saw the Çeşme Castle and took photos from outside it.
Sabah bir pastanede kahvaltımızı yaptıktan sonra Çeşme’ye geçtik. Ilıca, Alaçatı ve Çeşme aralarındaki mesafe arabayla 5-10 dakika sürüyor diyebilirim. Arabayı Cumhuriyet Meydanı’nda bir yere bıraktıkran sonra Atatürk Bulvarı’ndan Çeşme sahile kadar yürüdük. Sabah saatleri ve sezon dışı olduğu için Çeşme merkezi fazla kalabalık değildi. Çeşme marinaya kadar yürüdük sonrasında Çeşme kalesini dışardan gezdik fotoğraflar çektik.

After spending a few hours in Çeşme center, we went to the famous Ilıca beach. I can say that Ilıca beach had the most beautiful sand and sea I have ever seen in my life. The sea is windy most of the time during the year. They do not recommend swimming when it is windy. Luckily for us, the sea was calm. I would have loved to swim in the sea, but unfortunately we did not have our swimsuits with us. By the way, this beach is a public beach, not one of those beaches where people pay exorbitant prices to enter ;)
Çeşme merkezde birkaç saat zaman geçirdikten sonra meşhur Ilıca plajına gittik. Ilıca plajı, hayatımda gördüğüm kumu ve denizi en güzel plajdı diyebilirim. Yıl içinde deniz çoğu zaman rüzgarlı oluyormuş. Rüzgarlı olduğu zaman da denize girmeyi önermiyorlar. Bizim şansımıza deniz sakindi. Denize girmeyi çok isterdim ama maalesef deniz kıyafetlerimiz yanımızda değildi. Bu arada, bu plaj halk plajı, öyle fahiş fiyatlar verip girilen plajlardan değil ; )

Spending 15-20 minutes at Ilıca beach, we returned to Alaçatı. We had lunch in Alaçatı, then we took our belongings from the hotel. We wanted to visit Alaçatı in daylight and leave. We took photographs visiting the labyrinth-like narrow streets and mills of Alaçatı, where old Greek houses are located.
Ilıca plajında 15-20 dakika durduktan sonra tekrar Alaçatı’ya geri döndük. Öğle yemeğini Alaçatı’da yedikten sonra otelden eşyalarımızı aldık. Alaçatı’yı gündüz gözüyle gezip ayrılmak istiyorduk. Alaçatı’nın içinde, eski Rum evlerinin bulunduğu labirent gibi dar sokaklarını ve değirmenlerini gezerek fotoğraflar çektik.

I and My friend had the same opinion. Alaçatı was the most beautiful place we saw on our Aegean tour. Must visit here again.
