After the pandemic, which deeply affected our lives for about two years, there has been a global travel craze. I would travel abroad every year before the pandemic. Since it became more difficult to go abroad due to the restrictions of the pandemic and the subsequent inflationary period, I had started to make my travel plans domestically for the last two years. I also mentioned this in my Aegean tour and day-trip post. However, it was the time for me to start to travel abroad. In the fourth part of my Thessaloniki travel post series, I will write about Hagia Sophia Church and Church of Hagios Demetrios.

Yaklaşık iki yıldır hayatımızı derinden etkileyen pandemiden sonra küresel çapta bir seyahat çılgınlığı yaşanıyor. Pandemiden önce her yıl yurtdışı seyahatleri yapan biriydim. Pandeminin getirdiği seyahat kısıtlamaları ve sonrasında gelen enflasyonist dönem nedeniyle yurtdışına çıkmak iyice zorlaştığından ben de seyahat planlarımı son iki yıldır yurtiçine yönelik yapmaya başlamıştım. Bunu Ege turu ve günübirlik yaptığım seyahat yazılarında da belirtmiştim. Buna karşın, benim için artık yurtdışı seyahatlerime başlamanın zamanı gelmişti. Selanik gezisi yazı serimin dördüncü bölümünde sizlere Aya sofya ve Aya Dimitri Kiliselerinden bahsedeceğim.

Selanik turumun üçüncü yazısında sizlere yine birbirlerine yürüme mesafesinde olan Beyaz Kule ve Aristotelous Meydanı’ndan bahsetmiştim.
Having rested for a while in a shaded place in Aristotelous Square, we started walking up to Hagia Sophia Church, which is a five-minute walk away from the square. Hagia Sophia Church is one of the oldest churches in Thessaloniki. It was built based on the Hagia Sophia Church in Istanbul. Hagia Sophia Church was also converted into a mosque during the Ottoman period, and after the recapture of Thessaloniki, it was turned into a church again by the Greeks.
Aristotelous Meydanı’nda gölge bir yerde bir süre dinlendikten sonra meydana beş dakiki yürüme mesafesinde olan Ayasofya Kilisesi’ne doğru yürümeye başladık. Ayasofya Kilisesi Selanik’in en eski kiliselerinden biridir. İstanbul’daki Ayasofya Kilisesi örnek alınarak inşa edilmiş. Ayasofya Kilisesi de Osmanlılar zamanında camiye çevrilmiş, Selanik’in geri alınmasından sonra Yunanlılar tarafınan tekrar kiliseye dönüştürülmüştür.
Visiting the Hagia Sophia Church, we started walking upwards. There was Church of Hagios Demetrios 10 minutes away on our way. We also wanted to visit this church. When I talked to a few people in the church, I learned that this church was of great importance to the Thessalonians. Saint Dimitri, who was a soldier during the Roman Empire, secretly accepted Christianity and was tortured to death after this was come out. After the Roman Empire accepted Christianity, today's church was built on the place where his grave was located. It is believed that St. Demetrius protects the city of Thessaloniki.
Ayasofya Kilisesi’nden sonra yukarı doğru yürümeye başladık. Yolumuzun üzerinde 10 dakikalık mesafede Aya Dimitri Kilisesi vardı. Bu kiliseye de uğramak istedik. Kilisede birkaç kişi ile konuştuğumda, bu kilisenin Selanikliler için önemi büyük olduğunu öğrendim. Roma İmparatorluğu zamanında asker olan Aziz Dimitri gizlice Hristiyanlığı kabul etmiş ve bu durum öğrenilince işkence ile öldürülmüştür. Roma İmparatorluğu’nun Hristiyanlığı kabulündan sonra mezarının bulunduğu yerin üstüne bugünkü kilise yapılmıştır. Aziz Dimitri’nin Selanik şehrini koruduğuna inanılmaktadır.

Bu kiliselerin içinden fotoğraf çekme imkanı olması da güzel. Adana'da bir kiliseye gittim ama fotoğraf çekmenin yasak olduğunu söyleyip izin vermemişlerdi
Her ne kadar yurtdışına çıkmak bizler için gittikçe zorlaşsa da olsa da imkan dahilinde herkesin gitmesini isterim. Tatilin dışında kattığı çok şey var.
Avrupada'da önemli kiliseler öyle, hatta vucudun bir kısmı açık giremiyorsun.
Eski hristiyan mimarileri gerçekten çok ilgi çekici oluyor. Sanırım o kasvetli hava bunu sağlayan şey.
Iki Kilisi de baya eski ve tarihi.
Selanik’teki kilise, İstanbul’daki Ayasofya Kilisesinin küçülmüş haline benziyor. Ama gerçek bir kilise görünümünde. Aziz Dimitri’nin işkenceyle öldürülmesi kötü olmuş. Aziz Dimitri Kilisesi, daha görkemli ve gösterişli görünüyor. Selanik’te Hristiyanlığın sevilmemesi de çok ilginç geldi bana. Paylaşım için teşekkürler.
Hristiyanlığın ilk ortaya çıkmaya başladığı zamanlardaymış, başka ülkelerde de benzer şeyler olmuştur.
