Eleven, mostly big

A tough week at work; complex and busy. I needed an outlet and, because it's been a week and more since I'd been, I went shooting.

I ended up shooting eleven kangaroos, all mostly big males like the one below.

This one was shot from an elevated position 320 metres away...it fell immediately. He was pretty big fellow, my rifle is over a metre in length so using that for reference this kangaroo is over 2 metres in length. (At full height he stood approximately as tall as I stand)

Interestingly, and for the first time ever, I saw all the game in this location, (a cattle farm when I cull feral and pest animals) on the same night. Hares, rabbits, foxes, a single deer and kangaroos obviously. I wanted to get the deer, I field dress them and take the venison home, but it wasn't in a position I could safely shoot so I left it for another night.

I didn't expect kangaroo hunt being allowed, what a surprise

How is the kangaroo meat? I never had the change to eat it... Seems like you gonna have to eat it for days

I don't take the meat, I shoot them and leave them where they fall as I'm there to dissuade them from being on the property. As for the meat, it's not too bad although I don't like it that much; it's able to be purchased in the supermarkets and is available around the world including in Italy at specialist butchers.

What would they do in the property? I mean damage stuff, etc? Are they aggressive?

I've seen it only once in a restaurant with particular meats but was quite expensive

Yeah, damage fences, eat the feed, drink the water and so on. There's over 80 million kangaroos in the country so shooting at a few controls the population.

I know some humans that need culling too.

Glad you were able to release after a crazy week. Sitting in your hide waiting listening to the sights and sounds of nature around you. No doubt that is a reward in itself.

Been a while since I've been fishing. Need to get to wild and do some. Get away from this concrete and noise.

Fishing is a good way to relax, as long as one doesn't get too upset about not catching anything.

I never get upset about not catching anything. Just enjoy my surroundings mostly.

That's the way to do it. I do the same really and if I'm honest rarely try too hard to catch anything at all.

I remember fishing with my dad, it wasn't really exciting lol, it was good for the company

I'm not much of a fisherman; I could fish well enough to feed myself but I don't really enjoy it, same as you I guess.

Oh wow, 2 meters? That's a huge kangaroo, or you're very tall, or both! 😱

Lol, yeah probably both.

You should have been playing wild animal bingo! You would have had a full card!

Lol, yeah might have won a prize.
