Anyone who truly believes in something, someone, an idea, a goal will 100% put their effort in trying to achieve it. We believe in eating food to stay alive it's natural. We believe in doing the best for one another close to us out of love. We believe in our own intellect to chase a career or education. If you "believed" in any of these, then you wouldn't have ever taken the step to try to achieve them.
People like to fill their heads with " beliefs" and sit back without acting upon. It gives people substance and a character. But if you truly believe in something you wouldn't care about building a character. You would care about that belief. Like dedicated people of religions, or great minds who create the world we live in. It's all built with passion in their beliefs. But for that to be acted upon they have to really believe it and sacrifice time to it.
It's not wrong to go years with a belief you don't believe in. It takes time and experience to find that meaning. It may take years or decades. But you've gotta experience things and be willing to change. Simply accepting a belief and never acting upon it will just mean you accepted that time should just run past you until you die.
The journey is the goal. It's hard to accept and most if not everyone will never accept that during the journey. But once you reach your goal hindsight will make you accept it. Belief is a step and a reach into a dark you have never explored, with confidence that you will find the light switch. That journey is dark but with confidence you will reach it. And if you don't. You have had a hell of a journey through the dark, that's something people get to appreciate, Their self confidence and self respect for doing the daring task of walking the dark.
I believe in the word of education and progression of educational enlightenment. It opens doors wider and taller than anything in the world will. And I push to one day have enough wisdom to teach people and hopefully inspire people to prove me right or wrong. But that's years down the line. For now I shall live life with that belief at heart but not in my eye.
What an interesting exposition on what it means to believe in something and to go after it. This is quite a unique point of view which I haven't seen expressed before (although I have seen "the journey is the goal" I like how you integrate it into your own definition).
