Decent screen quality but weird joystick

One of the cutest and gifts I’ve received to date is the SUPREDBOX, a mini arcade machine packed with a bunch of NES games. I’ve picked up a bunch of gadgets and gaming gear over the years and this little thing amused as I unwrapped it.

Perhaps in classic knock off style, the packaging could easily be mistaken for merch from Supreme. Unfortunately, the little arcade cab is not an entry into Hypebeast gaming. Instead, the it’s a cute package that offers a Mini Arcade Game player.

Unboxing

In the box there’s the mini arcade cabinet, two rechargeable batteries, charging cable, and warranty cards. I was surprised by how neat and well built this little thing was. There’s even an AV cable to connect the device to a TV. I don’t have a monitor that supports AV at the moment.

Controls

NES games were never complex and the basic 4 clicky button layout is more than sufficient to play through some classic games. There are reset, select and start buttons. The joystick functions more like an oversized analogue stick and I found myself using my thumb to control when playing. Volume adjustment is on the side.

Connectivity

The SUPREDBOX has two mini-USB ports at the back for additional controllers sold separately. Not sure if generic controllers would work on this, probably not. The AV port is also at the back.

##Gaming

On every boot, you can select between English and Chinese language. This only changes the names of the games in the menu loader, the order and the ROMs it uses are identical.

I didn’t expect much from a mini emulator machine, the NES roms are in alphabetical order and you can scroll through page by page and play 360 games including retro classics and weird ROM hacks. I saw a bootleg Pokemon platformer in there somewhere, nothing seemed to crash or slowdown when playing thankfully. The screen is bright enough and the volume can be cranked up for some decent audio, there’s no headphone jack support.

##Closing Comments

The SUPREDBOX is a semi comfortable experience that serves for shorter and more novelty factor when people are over. It sits as a cute little shelf toy that I occasionally pick up from time to time. It’s a thoughtful gift for any nerd and hits with nostalgia along with some comedic effect with how weird some of the hacked games are.

Do you enjoy retro gaming? Let me know in the comments!
Also, Happy #HivePUD :)

Dear @bytezombie, we need your help!

The Hivebuzz proposal already got important support from the community. However, it lost its funding a few days ago and only needs a few more HP to get funded again.

May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work this year?
You can do it on Peakd, ecency,

Hive.blog / https://wallet.hive.blog/proposals
or using HiveSigner.
