Howdy Gamers

This year for the Horror season run up to Halloween I've decided to try and do a Horror- Game-A-Thon.

I'm going to try and upload a Horror themed gaming video every day through October and we are starting with one of the scariest games I have played so far....Project Nightmares - Case 36 - Henrietta Kedward

Snapshot_161.png

This is a new title which was released on Steam on September 29th and is currently available for £19.99.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/812070/Project_Nightmares_Case_36_Henrietta_Kedward/

Here is Steams description of the game...

"Project Nightmares is a survival horror game with a procedural structure, creating unique scares every time you play. A machine will induce you into a dream state, throwing you into a living nightmare first-hand in order to discover the story of Henrietta Kedward, an old woman with a dark past."

The description and the trailer video on Steam had me intrigued right away and I figured this would be as good a title as any to kick of my month long session of Horror gaming.

I should mention I'm not a huge fan of horror games, I tend to get to freaked out to continue at a certain point in the game and I will end up abandoning it and never coming back...

This month I plan to face this fear and complete as many games as possible this month.

It turns out I've started with a really spooky title....I feel like if I can finish this Ill have no trouble getting through horror games in the future.

So lets dive in and see what we are dealing with here...

The game starts out with the player in a sort of isolation tank in a paranormal research facility...

Snapshot_157.png

The facility has acquired a cursed evil doll from a local store owner who found it in an abandoned town. All that is known about it is that it its tied to an old witch named Henrietta Kedward....

Snapshot_160.png

The isolation tank we are in is designed to put us into a dream like trance where we will bond with the energy of the doll and try to understand more about it so that we can remove the evil influence from it...

Snapshot_158.png

Snapshot_159.png

Snapshot_162.png

Snapshot_163.png

"The evil entity will find many ways to kill you, and as you go deeper and get closer to it, it will be come even more dangerous...."

And with those ominous words of warning echoing through our mind we drift into the nightmare...

Snapshot_164.png

Snapshot_165.png
"Everything looks... so real..."

Indeed it does, I was playing this on a 50 inch 4k screen sitting about 1 and a half foot in front of it...Its a window to a nightmare...literally...

Snapshot_169.png

One of the main things we need to do is find candles....they keep the evil entity away from us....

Snapshot_167.png

Our first objective is to explore the haunted Kedward House and find 3 photographs. We are going to need plenty of candles for our investigation, they can be found in the many drawers throughout the house...

Snapshot_197.png

Snapshot_198.png

Snapshot_199.png

We can only carry 3 candles at a time...they are constantly burning down which looks really cool ,the animation for the candle getting smaller is really well done...

Snapshot_177.png

When one candle runs out our character will use it to light another one automatically if we have one in our inventory...

Snapshot_214.png

Snapshot_215.png

If you run out of candles you'll find yourself alone in the dark...

Snapshot_187.png

Then the evil entity will fly towards you and send you back to your last check point...
Snapshot_188.png

As you walk through the house trigger objects will kick out procedural jump scares....objects and paintings will fly of the walls accompanied by a hair raising ghostly laugh or scream...

Snapshot_170.png

Snapshot_181.png

Snapshot_180.png

Snapshot_182.png

Snapshot_200.png

Sometimes these objects will hit you and blow out your candle flame...if this happens you need to relight it quickly....

Snapshot_195.png

Snapshot_196.png

There are also phones which will ring ominously and when you pick them up the evil entity speaks to you....fun times indeed...

Snapshot_173.png

Snapshot_174.png

Snapshot_175.png

Snapshot_176.png

There are musical object's like old pianos, music boxes and gramophones which will randomly play adding even more to the nightmarish environment...

Snapshot_179.png

There are also diary's to discover which let you learn more about Henrietta Kedward

Snapshot_172.png

Snapshot_171.png

Some of the doors have keyholes which we can look through...im not sure the point of this but it adds an extra layer of spooky...

Snapshot_201.png

In the beginning as your adjusting to the nightmare happening around you your looking for 3 pictures...

Snapshot_191.png

Snapshot_192.png

Snapshot_193.png

Snapshot_190.png

The last picture we need to find to complete this first objective has a puzzle to solve...

Snapshot_184.png

Snapshot_185.png

Snapshot_186.png

This first puzzle took me many attempts to solve...its timed from when the first circle clicks into place, you need to be SUPER fast to rotate the remaining pieces into the correct position to solve it.

Once solved we obtained the 3rd photograph and a red looking glass which lets us see hidden writing on the walls and a heart which acts like a sort of key.

Snapshot_204.png

Snapshot_205.png

Once we have found the 3 photographs our objective is updated. Now we need to find a shrine to place the photographs on. The nightmare continues...we need to delve deeper into the haunted house to find the shrine.
Snapshot_206.png

We need to use the red looking glass to find the right wall to place the heart key onto...

Snapshot_207.png

Snapshot_209.png
Using the glass we can see its this wall...
Snapshot_208.png

Snapshot_210.png
Once we place the heart key the wall fades away letting us move forward....
Snapshot_211.png

Snapshot_212.png

Snapshot_213.png

Behind the wall we find an area protected with a seal of salt....

Snapshot_216.png

Snapshot_218.png

I cautiously walk past the seal and am faced with this evil looking little slice of nastiness...

Snapshot_220.png

Run!...run quite fast, back over the salt seal!....

Snapshot_219.png

Snapshot_221.png

She wanders around the halls beyond the seal, you need to play a terrifying game of cat and mouse to get passed her.....I did not enjoy it....
Snapshot_222.png

Snapshot_223.png
She could be lurking...
Snapshot_224.png
...waiting....
Snapshot_228.png
around any corner...

Snapshot_226.png

If she catches you she kills you sending you back to your last check point...

Snapshot_225.png

Snapshot_227.png

If she catches you from behind you hear a blood curdling scream then she just sticks her hand right through your abdomen...
Snapshot_251.png

You can pick up salt to throw at her and scare her of...

Snapshot_229.png

Snapshot_252.png

I honestly thought I would stop the video instead of playing this hellishly unnerving game of cat and mouse but somehow I managed to make it through to the next stage of the house and found the shrine for the photographs...

Snapshot_231.png

Snapshot_232.png

Snapshot_233.png

Snapshot_234.png

Snapshot_235.png

Snapshot_236.png
Once we place the 3 pictures on the shrine another Diary entry rises from the table

Snapshot_237.png

Snapshot_238.png

Snapshot_239.png

Snapshot_240.png

Snapshot_241.png

Snapshot_242.png

Snapshot_243.png

Snapshot_244.png

Under the diary we find a key....

Snapshot_245.png

Snapshot_246.png

Snapshot_247.png

Our next objective is to find a room with two windows which has a great aura in it. There we will unlock more clues...
Snapshot_248.png

I ran out of fraps recording time before I found this mystery room but it cut the video nicely at the 1 hour mark which is about how long I want these episodes to be and also way more horror than my poor heart can take in one sitting so we will continue this terrifying adventure in part 2...

Snapshot_156.png

It would be cool to see some other Hive gamers check this out....I honestly didn't think id make it to the 1 hour mark and complete the first 2 objectives, I was genuinely freaked out in the first 10 minutes.

The procedurally generated nature of the game means every play-throughs going to be different...@pusen and @strawhat it would be cool to see you guys tackle this one if you can find the time...If not just watch me increasingly get scared as we progress deeper into the nightmare..... :)

Dude, this game looks creepy as shit. I'm adding it to my wihslist and might do it for a let's play when I finish Plague Tale.

Nice one ,I look forward to seeing your lets play.

Yeah I've been watching @strawhats lets play of Plague tale ....ill probably check that out at some point to it looks interesting.

It will be interesting to see how fast you can do that puzzle on the back of the picture frame...I tried for about 15-20 minutes of camera before the thing finally popped open....its a timed thing...damn near drove me crazy hehe :)

Haha! I noticed the puzzles, or at least one of them, was kinda like the ones in the Resident Evil games. There’s probably some inspiration.

I was wondering if you know much about what the criteria is to get a gaming post curated these days?

It used to be if I made a decent post it would get a decent payout but these days Im noticing my gaming posts don't get the attention they used to and often times its not totally worth the effort to record the video, edit it, take screenshots and write up a post.

Is it perhaps due to the increased volume of gaming posts? Like maybe its easier for them to go unnoticed and maybe only a certain percentage can be curated each day?

Im just trying to work out how much time I should spend making a post.I enjoy the process of recording footage and writing up a post but if I spend around 3-4 hours work on a post like this and it makes less than $10 its not really the best use of time.

I guess this ones only a day old it might still get some attention and upvotes before it pays out, just curious how things work on that end nowadays.

There's a lot of factors at play and differentiating who gets votes is one of them. When we have a lot of posts we can only pick so many due to voting power. Our main focus however is on curating active users who take the time to engage in the community and/or on Hive in general.

Being an active and engaging user is probably the best you can do for your account. That way you'll build a network of followers that will vote you so you don't have to rely on the big projects to curate you. Draw people to your content. Don't expect them to come running your way on their own.

Also, and this might sound harsh but that's not what I'm trying to, but if you're doing this purely for the money you might also be doing it for the wrong reasons. You should game and make content because you enjoy it. Not as a chore. But that's just me and my opinion.

Yeah I hear you ,I realised a while ago its best to focus on creating the content I enjoy that way if it earns anything its a bonus.

I've pretty much been mixing it up from the start of HIVE , openmic posts , travel , food ,games just whatever is fun to do.

I just sort of noticed its getting a bit harder to get gaming posts noticed these days and they tend to be the ones that take the longest to make.

Anyway thanks for taking the time to respond, I appreciate it, its insightful.
