Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers is a platform action video game developed and published by Capcom of Japan based on the 1989 Disney animated series. It was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in Japan and North America in 1990.

We love this game in the Philippines during the early 1990s. I think this was one of the few NES games that was fun to play cooperatively with two player mode and had great graphics at the same time.

The Story

The cute Disney chipmunks, Chip and Dale, those tiny Rescue Rangers detectives, have received another urgent call for help: The evil Fat Cat has kidnapped Gadget, their mouse girlfriend. His sinister goal is to take over the city!! Join them on their adventure search through the dark depths of city sewers to the electrifying heights of live telephone wires!

Play the game alone or with a friend to locate that Fat Cat's lair and stop his bad kitty scheme!

The Graphics and Sound

This is one of the few games that had better graphics on the NES. It is nicely detailed, with colorful backgrounds and cartoon characters. Also, there are many enemies and things here and there which just make the graphics cool even more.

This has everything a NES game should have if it wants to looks good. It even does not look old or dated!

The sound quality is outstanding. Every tune you hear is catchy and memorable. It sticks in your mind and it sounds superb. A really great soundtrack.

The Gameplay

The gameplay here is so better than average and makes it an instant classic. The controls here are better than expected. Chip and Dale jump only like you want them to, and they move with a precision that allows you to do moves smoothly.

You go through the various levels carrying/throwing boxes and balls at enemies along the way. What is even more interesting, you can choose which level to go to next by moving around a simple world map. This makes the game not boring.

This game is so fun to play (even the 2 player coop mode) in every way so the replay value is damn high. That makes Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers such a classic game.

One negative thing about it is once you mastered the controls, then everything is easy.

My Verdict

Chip'n Dale: Rescue Rangers is a fun NES game. It has easy controls, great graphics, and music and is based on a popular cartoon series at the time. On the downside, the lack of difficulty is not too much of a problem since the game is created for kids.

Whether you liked the cartoon series or not, you ought to enjoy this game, preferably with a 2 player friend. Give it a damn chance for your retro gaming collection or casual enjoyment.

Get it on the NES or play on NES emulators.

Let's keep on gaming in the free world!
