Los videojuegos en mi vida representan algo muy importante, para algunos pueden ser simplemente métodos de distracción o entretenimiento, pero en mi mente y alma son algo más, son parte de mi historia y formaron de cierta forma mi personalidad, inclusive me motivaron a realizar distintas profesiones, una de ellas es ser programador, y pensar que todo esto empezó por una pequeña consola llamada Nintendo Entertainment System.
Video games in my life represent something very important, for some they can simply be methods of distraction or entertainment, but in my mind and soul they are something more, they are part of my history and they formed my personality in a certain way, they even motivated me to carry out different professions, one of them is to be a programmer, and to think that all this began by a small console called Nintendo Entertainment System.
Tuve la suerte de recibir esta consola como un regalo por parte de mis padres, realmente es muy difícil explicar las múltiples emociones que sentí en aquellos años, ya que siempre me llamó la atención los videojuegos en los salones arcades, pero tener la oportunidad de jugar a diferentes juegos desde mi hogar era algo que nunca imaginaría. Lo primero que vi fueron unos cartuchos que venían con sus cajas y manuales, entre ellos estaba Super Mario Bros, The Simpsons: Bart vs. The Space Mutants y Double Dragon III, pero el que más horas le dediqué hasta llegar a perfeccionar cada uno de sus niveles fue Double Dragon II.
I was lucky enough to receive this console as a gift from my parents, it is really difficult to explain the multiple emotions I felt in those years, since I was always attracted by video games in arcades, but having the opportunity to play different games from my home was something I would never imagine. The first thing I saw were some cartridges that came with their boxes and manuals, among them were Super Mario Bros, The Simpsons: Bart vs. The Space Mutants and Double Dragon III, but the one that I dedicated more hours to perfect each of its levels was Double Dragon II.
Debido a lo humilde que era mi familia, no me podían comprar más videojuegos por lo costosos que eran, pero un día descubrí que, a través de un adaptador, podía colocar juegos que eran muy económicos. En aquellos tiempos no sabía que se trataban de cartuchos no oficiales, sin embargo, gracias a ellos pude conocer grandes títulos como Ninja Gaiden, Formation Z, Super Contra y muchos más, todo se lo debo al espectacular transformador NASA.
Because of my humble family, they could not buy any more video games for me because they were so expensive, but one day I discovered that, through an adapter, I could place games that were very cheap. At that time I did not know that they were unofficial cartridges, however, thanks to them I was able to get to know great titles such as Ninja Gaiden, Formation Z, Super Contra and many more, I owe it all to the spectacular NASA transformer.
Los años pasaron y no había manera de despegarme de la NES, pero existía algo que me restringía las horas de juego, mi madre, ya era muy estricta, siempre me lo escondía para no descuidar los estudios, pero los fines de semana eran gloria, ya que podía jugar todo el día, sin embargo, un diciembre todo cambiaría, cuando a la casa a través de la influencia de mi hermano llegó la consola que, para mí, fue y es la mejor de todas, la Super Nintendo.
The years passed and there was no way to detach myself from the NES, but there was something that restricted my game hours, my mother, was already very strict, she always hid it from me so as not to neglect my studies, but the weekends were glory, since I could play all day, however, one December everything would change, when to the house through the influence of my brother came the console that, for me, was and is the best of all, the Super Nintendo.
Pero en este caso pasó algo muy peculiar, la consola no trajo ningún videojuego para jugar debido a que era de segunda mano, estaba totalmente loco por ver algún cartucho colocado en ella y observar cada detalle, fue hasta el día siguiente que a mi hermano le prestaron un videojuego que condenó mi vida a un vicio infinito (incluso en la actualidad) el aclamado Street Fighter 2.
But in this case something very peculiar happened, the console did not bring any video game to play because it was second hand, I was totally crazy to see some cartridge placed in it and observe every detail, it was until the next day that my brother was lent a video game that condemned my life to an infinite vice (even today) the acclaimed Street Fighter 2.
Al ser el único videojuego que tenía no paraba de jugarlo, luchando con cada uno de sus personajes para conocerlos milimétricamente. Gracias a este título tuve una enorme afinidad por los videojuegos del género Fighting, donde destacan en mi catálogo personal los juegos de esta franquicia, pero existieron otros como los Mortal Kombat o unos de mis favoritos, Killer Instinct.
As it was the only video game I had, I didn't stop playing it, struggling with each one of its characters to know them inch by inch. Thanks to this title I had an enormous affinity for the videogames of the Fighting genre, where the games of this franchise stand out in my personal catalog, but there were others like Mortal Kombat or one of my favorites, Killer Instinct.
Luego de una larga jornada de Street Fighter en la SNES, mi padre un día me dice que lo acompañe a un centro comercial que está cerca de mi localidad, cuando llegamos se dirige a una tienda donde vendían varios videojuegos, no estaba seguro de lo que sucedía hasta que escuche las palabras “elige un juego”. A pesar de la enorme emoción que sentía tuve que concentrarme en decidir cuál título escoger, hasta que finalmente me decidí por uno de carreras, dicho juego fue el comienzo de un largo trayecto en este género, Top Gear 2.
After a long journey of Street Fighter on the SNES, my father one day tells me to accompany him to a mall that is near my town, when we arrived he goes to a store where they sold several video games, I was not sure what was happening until I heard the words "choose a game. In spite of the enormous emotion I felt, I had to concentrate on deciding which title to choose, until I finally decided on a racing game, that game was the beginning of a long journey in this genre, Top Gear 2.
Mi padre, hermano y yo pasamos horas para ver quién era el más rápido de los tres en distintos torneos que organizamos, era una batalla continua en ver quién era el mejor en las pistas. Cuando estaba solo no dejaba de practicar hasta dejar el auto con todas las piezas de máximo valor, probando todos los colores, llantas, entre otras cosas, en resumen, uno de los juegos que me permitió experimentar en los 16 bits la emoción de una carrera.
My father, brother and I spent hours to see who was the fastest of the three in different tournaments we organized, it was a continuous battle to see who was the best on the track. When I was alone I did not stop practicing until I left the car with all the pieces of maximum value, trying all the colors, tires, among other things, in short, one of the games that allowed me to experience in the 16 bits the emotion of a race.
Varios de mis compañeros de clase tenían la Super Nintendo, esto me permitió intercambiar con ellos varios cartuchos, de esta forma conocí a un título que se quedó en mi memoria por la eternidad, The Legend of Zelda: A link to the Past. Su historia, mundos, jugabilidad y la música me envolvieron por completo en un mar de vicio por infinidades de horas, llegando al punto de terminarlo al 100%. Debo agradecer a ese compañero de antaño por permitirme conocer a una de las joyas que más amo de esta apreciada consola.
Several of my classmates had the Super Nintendo, this allowed me to exchange with them several cartridges, in this way I met a title that remained in my memory for eternity, The Legend of Zelda: A link to the Past. Its history, worlds, gameplay and music wrapped me completely in a sea of vice for infinite hours, reaching the point of finishing it 100%. I have to thank that companion of yesteryear for allowing me to meet one of the jewels that I love most in this beloved console.
Con la Super Nintendo me pasó lo mismo que con la NES, no tenía muchos títulos debido a lo costosos que eran, pero existió algo que me permitió conocer uno de los mejores juegos que se creó para el cerebro de la bestia. Un día mi padre trajo algo que me dejó sorprendido, se trataba de una computadora Pentium I, aún recuerdo que su disco duro era de 200 Mb y tenía una tarjeta de video Trident de 2 mb. En esta computadora exprimí juegos como Duke Nukem y uno de mis juegos favoritos, Prince of Persia.
With the Super Nintendo I had the same thing that happened with the NES, I didn't have many titles because they were so expensive, but there was something that allowed me to get to know one of the best games that was created for the brain of the beast. One day my father brought something that left me surprised, it was a Pentium I computer, I still remember that its hard disk was 200 Mb and it had a 2 mb Trident video card. On this computer I squeezed games like Duke Nukem and one of my favorite games, Prince of Persia.
Uno de mis compañeros de clase me indicó que podía jugar cualquier título de la Snes en el computador, pero no le creí, ya que pensaba que era algo imposible, fue entonces cuando un día me dio dos disquetes de 3¼, uno con un supuesto emulador llamado Zsnes y otro con un juego secreto. Llegué a la casa e inmediatamente coloqué estos disquetes para pasar los archivos al computador, procedí a realizar todo el procedimiento que me anotó en el cuaderno, fue así como finalmente mis ojos quedaron asombrados, estaba viendo un juego de Super Nintendo en la computadora, se observaba una especie de péndulo de un reloj con una música corta, pero a la vez misteriosa, este fue el inicio de Chrono Trigger.
One of my classmates told me that I could play any Snes title on the computer, but I didn't believe him, as he thought it was impossible. That's when one day he gave me two disks from 3¼, one with a supposed emulator called Zsnes and the other with a secret game. I arrived to the house and immediately I put these diskettes to pass the files to the computer, I proceeded to make all the procedure that he wrote down in the notebook, it was like that finally my eyes were astonished, I was watching a Super Nintendo game in the computer, there was a kind of pendulum of a clock with a short music, but at the same time mysterious, this was the beginning of Chrono Trigger.
Es indescriptible todo lo que pude sentir al jugar esta obra maestra, era algo que nunca pude imaginar, viajes en el tiempo, unos gráficos alucinantes, personajes únicos, batallas épicas, simplemente un título que jamás pensé que pudiera existir, todo gracias a ese compañero que me entregó esos disquetes misteriosos en aquellos años.
It is indescribable how much I could feel when playing this masterpiece, it was something I could never imagine, time travel, amazing graphics, unique characters, epic battles, simply a title I never thought could exist, all thanks to that fellow who gave me those mysterious disks in those years.
Existieron muchos videojuegos de otras generaciones que marcaron mi historial como jugador, pero los que mencioné anteriormente, me definieron como el gamer que soy en la actualidad, un aficionado en los juegos de pelea, carreras, Beat 'em up y RPG. Cada uno de ellos me dieron experiencias que jamás olvidaré, es por este y otros motivos que siempre tendrán un lugar especial dentro de mi pequeña colección de videojuegos.
There were many video games from other generations that marked my history as a player, but those I mentioned before, defined me as the gamer I am today, a fan of fighting games, racing games, Beat 'em Up and RPG. Each one of them gave me experiences that I will never forget, it is for this and other reasons that they will always have a special place within my small video game collection.

It is very rewarding to read the positive influence that video games have had on people. Many people may be mistakenly thinking that the time a player spends on his or her favorite entertainment is time wasted or will not bring that person any present or future benefit. It is important to discover that this world of video games is more than just a game. I have found in every publication, of this contest, a lot of intellectual growth and also why not until a spiritual growth . All these experiences are enriching for the soul of the reader. I congratulate you for the constancy you have maintained in your journey through this fascinating technological world of video games. An embrace from a distance.
Hola amigo, primero que hermoso post despierta bastante nostalgía, lamentablemente nunca tuve el placer de jugar en un super nintendo pero si en mi querido 64 y mi Gamecube y definitivamente este es un querido vicio, me encantó tu gran revisión de videojuegos yo tuve el placer de deleitarme con The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time del N64 :D saludos y muchos exitos
