Game Design Course on Humble Bundle

I saw these two courses being sold as a Humble Bundle, and I'm really tempted to purchase them.

I've wanted to get into game design for so long, mainly as a hobby to try and make my own stuff; I don't really have any aspiration for working in the industry.

Studying game design in college would have been cool, and I was close at one point to enrolling to do just that, but I never did, and at this stage, the chance of me doing that is slim to none. But that's what has piqued my interest in purchasing these two courses I came across.

The Courses

There is this one, which is a complete introduction to using Unreal Engine. I did download it before to give it a go, but I didn't know where to start, and briefly watching a few videos on it didn't really help me out too much.

The thing I like about this course is that there is a section which is an introduction to the software, and there are sections concerning game design theory, finding out what works and doesn't work to help while planning your idea out, and there is even a section to do with writing and narrative design.

Then there are individual sections to do with each genre of game, so you can kind of focus on what you're most interested in trying out.

Along with that one, there is this one all about designing elements in Blender, such as assets, landscapes, spaceships (which I'm really interested in) and characters. Also, there are sections on rigging and animating your designs.

As well as that, there are sections of the course all about exporting your creations and importing them into Unreal, Unity, or Godot to then be used for your game.

I think these two courses really complement each other, and that's why these two are the ones I'm thinking of purchasing. They're €25 each, which isn't a lot of money in the grand scheme of things, even if it only gives me a jumping-off point to get started and continue learning on my own by doing my own research into it.

I have some questions:

Has anyone ever made use of any online courses such as these, and are they worth it?

Have you studied game design? Do you think this would be useful for someone with little to no experience?

If you haven't studied game design but are interested, would you be interested in maybe joining a Discord server and teaming up to make some stuff and help each other learn, study, and create? I've made a server, and the goal is to essentially gather up a few people who are like me - total beginners, as well as experienced designers and kind of create a space where we can work together and make some stuff.

Here's A Link To The Discord If You'd Like To Join It.

I have a friend who was already a programmer and started picking these up, and has been enjoying it. He's made a few little games that have been pretty fun... but for a total beginner, I couldn't say if they'd be too advanced or not. I haven't got any free time right now but I've reblogged in case others read and are interested!

I actually saw one that I think you'd be interested in checking out, it's all about cartography and map-making. I was going to pick it up myself, but when I was looking it up I couldn't find many videos on the software itself or how to use it, so I'm going to look into it a bit more before purchasing.

Thanks for the re-blog.

I think having prior skills and knowledge, like programming, would be a major help, but I'm not sure really.

One of my buddies snagged this and it sounds like a great deal. He said the software is a little dated for UI, but it works really well. I will probably snag it as it definitely is something I'm interested in.
