Half Wild, Half Cultivated Garden

in HiveGardenlast year

Yesterday I took you on a walk around the area. Today, I'm taking advantage of the continuing good weather to take a closer look at the garden around the house. There is not really a vegetable garden, at least not all year round. That doesn't prevent us from finding a lot of interesting and unusual species.

Below, you can see this meadow sage or Salvia pratensis, it's quite incredible that these are still in flower, isn't it ? In the background you can see the flock of sheep that are settled in the meadow.

IMG_7882.JPG

A more general view of the grounds, the "Trois Becs"(Three Spouts) adorn the valley and just below, one of the cherry trees in which the birds enjoy themselves in the summer... and not only !

IMG_8272.jpg

IMG_8276.JPG

Still in the meadow around the house, a field knautie or Knautia arvensis, a flower that looks like clover. Underneath is Field Mustard, Sinapis arvensis. And in third place, the Rosehip, from which excellent jams and jellies are made, even if it takes a lot of work !

IMG_8015.JPG

As I pass by, I spot the remains of a wild fennel and, more importantly, some ripe seeds. What better opportunity for a seed addict ?

IMG_8187.JPG

IMG_8190.JPG

On the way home, almost unsurprisingly, I come across this bunch of Calendula. As always, it's seeds that I find and bring back. The interesting thing about this species is that it hybridizes very quickly and easily.

IMG_7945.JPG

Below the field, red-rooted pigweed is running on the slope. This one is like all the others, edible, but depending on the type of soil, this subspecies can store nitrates in the soil, and this can be potentially toxic.

IMG_8427.JPG

After all these discoveries, we spend a little time unblocking a rainwater drain. It was blocked and we had to pour a lot of water several times to get it to work again. On the fifth attempt, it was a success :)

IMG_8213.JPG

IMG_8205.JPG

Small operation to restore a chair that was unstuck, but not broken. As I'm also a carpenter, I fixed it in a jiffy... Afterwards, as often, I started the operation without taking pictures of the original. For the tightening, I used a strap and turnbuckles.

IMG_8234.JPG

IMG_8235.JPG

IMG_8236.JPG

I assure you, we didn't bring in that much wood, but I find this wall of logs particularly beautiful and it must be recognized that this living material plays an essential role in the countryside, as much for nourishing the soil as for the fireplace and heating !

IMG_9045.JPG

IMG_9047.JPG

Here we are in this part called the rock garden, which reproduces, both in terms of soil and exposure, the region or low altitudes of the Alps.

You will find, successively, a rosemary and its orchid-like flowers and a miniature pomegranate tree, its fruits and one of its flowers. When will the real harvest come ?

IMG_8219.JPG

IMG_8224.JPG

IMG_8225.JPG

IMG_8227.JPG

A little above the garden, there is this white marble bust that watches over the garden and I must say that it appears to me as a sort of peaceful guardian, a bit like a shepherd's dog watching over his flock.

IMG_8217.JPG

Let's come to the part that is perhaps the most important, or at least the one we spend the most time with, the swimming pool, which is a natural pool, without chemicals, and which is fed by spring water.

The filtration is done by the plants that border it on two sides. You can feel the purity of the water and it has nothing to do with pools treated with chlorine or other chemicals. It is similar to a lake or a river in terms of water quality and softness.

IMG_8275.JPG

IMG_8279.JPG

Last view on the pond and harvesting of some Swamp Hibiscus pods, Hibiscus moscheutos. Go and see some pictures on the internet, it's really worth it !

IMG_8280.JPG

IMG_7836.JPG

I hope you have enjoyed this visit to the garden and the story of these discoveries and actions :)

How was the day going for you ?

Good evening and see you soon,

<3

<3

Almost weekend… 👋🏻🥰

Yes, I loved this little visit! And pomengranates too! Wow. And lovely rosemary. Did you chew on the fennel? I love doing so. And of course our friend calendula, sunny and true. What a beautiful place to hang out - and goodness, the swimming pool!

 last year

Did you chew on the fennel?

Hahaha, and speaking of fennel, I was thinking of chewing it - but this one was really too dry.. I do indeed do that whenever I find some ! Another point in common :)

The calendula... There's not a day that goes by that I don't see at least one flower, and then they're rarely alone ^^

Yeah, this one is hidden heaven place, could stay forever !
Have a pleasant weekend dear 😘

Hello Anttn, it's been a while since I last visited your amazing blogs, I've been really so busy and trying really hard to meet up with replying to comments on my blog which is so so unlike me and that has kept me from not engaging so much but I'm really so happy I could visit you today.

I love these gardens and those flowers, the story behind all of these photos are really interesting but that of taking the chair on for surgery really got me, hehehe. It's a good thing you were able to identify the chair's problem and free it from his worries.

As always, I loved the time I spent here and I must say you are doing a really good job ❤️. By the way, how have you been?

 last year

Hi @hopestylist :)
That's normal, I totally understand. I'm short on time myself most of the time hehe !

I'm glad you enjoyed this little visit, I'm currently on a trip to the south of France, visiting family. I have been ill, but on the mend. Anyway, it didn't stop me from having a good time :D

What about you ? I hope for the best 🤞

I'm happy you understand, I would always love to stop by but then life happens.

South France, that's nice, my regards to the family, I hope they are all doing well 😊.

I've been doing fine, I just got a lot busier offline and it's not really easy to stay active here but am happy for the little I can do, I hope it will be over soon though.
Have a fabulous day! ! LUV 😘
