This last week or so has seen our bottlebrushes break out into some spectacular sprays of colours... mostly the bright reds that you commonly see around Australia, but a few unusual ones as well! And as you can see in the photo above, they are pretty damn heavy on pollen, which is probably great for bees... but terrible for hay fever sufferers... and for leaving a dusting of pollen on our cars!
Still, it is worth it to see the bright colours break out in the garden... and thankfully this year, we haven't had to deal with an infestation of spitfires as well!

One of the less common colours, a light yellow bottlebrush. This particular bush isn't well developed, as it had been covered and overgrown by all the mess that was around when we first moved in. But now that it has better access to light and water, it is starting to look a bit healthier, and we are hoping it will start to grow taller and bush up a bit more!

Right next to our car port is this larger bottlebrush. When we moved in, it had sort of grown quite a bit and was cluttering the carport entrance as well as starting to touch the roof. I had slashed it back quite a bit in preparation for removal... however, I dawdled on the removing the trunk, and then my wife decided that she did like it and we would keep it... so, I do trim it back heavily year after year so that we don't keep hitting it with the cars... and I wonder if that has contributed to the heavy display of flowers this year?

Ah... my favourite bottlebrush in the front... it catches some nice sunlight, and that just makes the flowers just jump out vibrantly!

... and then we have this tall spindly one in the back (again, a problem of the overcrowding previously...) which is bearing these really nice pink flowers! I really like this colour as a contrast to the reds that most of the other bottlebrushes are bringing to the garden... and so, I do want to see if I can trim this a bit to encourage a bit more bushy-ness rather than a tall stick with a top heavy canopy.

That looks so beautiful, especially with both red and pink colors. I rarely see plants like that. I haven’t seen anything like that here in my place. It’s really so cute
These are Australian native plants, lots of interesting colours and shapes in the blooms here!
The bottlebrushes color is so vibrant and I love the mix of red and pink. Sometimes heavy pruning brings out the best blooms. Even with the pollen, it’s such a beautiful sight in the garden.
I do have to get started on pruning some things, but these ones have been just left alone!
