I’ve had seed catalogs since mid November 2024. Ordinarily I would have made the garden plans in December and gotten the orders in before Christmas. But not in 2024, I was too busy playing catch-up after getting my helper friend back.
On Monday there was no exercise class. I got my post up and the laundry started and a shower. Then I got a call from the dentist’s office. They were cancelling my appointment on Thursday afternoon and had an opening at 8AM on Tuesday. So I grabbed it and set about trying to get ahold of the Senior Center (which was closed due to fumes) to set up a ride.
With one thing and another I wasn’t able to sit down to start the seed orders until 11AM.
The first thing I had to do was make lists of how many seeds I needed of every plant. Remember there were 70 in just the New Herb garden alone. I finally got the lists made and started comparing them to the inventory.
Once I knew if I needed to buy that seed, I started looking for the best organic seed in the catalogs. I made an order for each company.
It’s hard to determine how many seeds are in a packet; there’s a good bit of math involved as some are listed in grams or parts of grams, some in ounces and some in quantity. So I have to do a good bit of conversion to make sure I get the right amount of seed.
I found most of the vegetables and some of the flowers in the catalogs. But when I got to the herbs, I had to resort to the computer to search for seeds. I made it through the herbs by 4PM and had had enough for one day. I just had the flowers to do.
I actually finished the laundry for a change and got a load of dishes in the dishwasher. I had heard back from the Senior Center and a ride was picking me up at 7:15AM on Tuesday morning.
One of the things that prevented me from starting until 11AM was this record album arrived at the house. I had this album on cassette tapes back in the 70’s and 80’s and really loved it. I tried to get it last year when one of my tapes broke. I missed one available by 24 hours on e-bay.
I’d been thinking of putting the Crosley player away because I wasn’t using it. I decided to try one more time to find the album and there it was, in pristine shape on e-bay! So I wanted to play one of the records, but for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out how to get the turntable to turn.
So I messaged my friend who had gifted it to me and asked. Apparently you pull the arm away from the platter to turn it on. Sigh… The one thing I hadn’t thought to try. I’d wasted about ½ hour on it.
So in the evening I played one of the records and it was pretty good. So I will wait until next November before I play them. My sister suggested asking Tom the wizard if there’s some way of recording them onto CD’s to preserve the LP’s. It’s an idea and when his life has settled a bit, maybe I will.
I was in bed by 8PM with all the stoves going. We are in a heat wave; it’s only to be +28F during the night instead of the negative numbers of the last 2 weeks.
On Tuesday when I get back from the dentist, my helper friend will be there and I plan to start the spring cleaning of the kitchen. I’ll probably be too tired to finish the seed orders, but chances are good we won’t have exercise class on Wednesday, so I can do it then.
You just made me remember the old tapes my parents used to play them
I was still very little back then
That’s a lot of work trying to choose and order seeds!
The old style turntable is quite unique. I had an old one but never had the chance to play anything for ages. The loudspeakers were missing! 🙀😂
Glad you're getting the seed orders in. I will sort through mine once more and organize them better due to your organization. ;-)
See? I AM a bad influence!! LOL
I will let you know that I have spent the entire day combining notes from different notebooks because you're so prepared. I have been organizing all day and it actually will help going forward in saving time. Next will be all the seeds, ugh! It is your fault, LOL
LOL!! I am SUCH a BAD influence!
You must have definitely be doing a very great job for the past few weeks
Today looks like a fun day over there
I’m happy you played some music
Seeds are very important, good seeds produce good crops, you can select seeds from the best company

It is possible to export a record to your computer, but there are a few bits and bobs you'll need to make it work right uuless your turntable happens to have a USB port for easy computer connection. Fortunately, Audacity is a free program for editing the audio file once you get it.
I have no idea what this system can or can't do, hence consulting Tom... I sure hope it can do it or that Tom might know how to make it work. My husband would have known...
