Yes, I am not physically able to care for them. Plus the infrastructure needs a LOT of repair.
We had a LOT of problems with boredom. We'd early on fixed the daily protein problem. We had limited spaces for the layers so we did what we could to keep the picking from starting. There's only 1 solution once it starts...

Here, predators are a BIG problem, so we built for them. We only lost 2 or 3 chickens out of the hundreds we raised over the years. Doing the work ahead made keeping chickens worthwhile. They paid for themselves most years and gave us all the eggs we wanted.
