Garden Of Opportunity

You other HiveGardeners cannot deny!

Hopefully I am not to late, but here is my entry in the HiveGarden Challenge!

Hello fellow Garden Nerds! Hope all is well, and things going as planned in your gardens. I myself am not much of a planner, and do a lot of things on impulse, or take advantage of an opportunity. This whole garden is only here if not for the seedlings I found in my compost. Remember the ones I first thought where Watermelons, and did not figure out they where actually Squash a few months latter? Still did not matter, for me it's all about the act of growing, more so then the harvest. Which for me can be bittersweet. Sure it is great you are finally enjoying the fruits of your labor, But it also means you are no longer growing. Thankfully I am blessed to live in an area where you can grow pretty much year round. Then certain circumstances have presented themselves to where I will not have to stop growing. the only question remands, is will I actually be able to finish? Well there is only 1 way to find out;)

I was doing laundry yesterday, and when I walked out of the wash room, I saw two seedlings that appeared to be melons popping out of the mulch. Something that I can 100% be sure of, since dozens of those Squash seedlings ended up growing in my compost! But what kind of melons? Going back to what I said in the first paragraph, WHO CARES! I am going to rescue these babies, and plant them at work:)

Luckily these are only in the mulch, and are not in the soil. Making for an easier transplant. I then saw the shells of the seeds. I am not going to say for certain, but I think these are Pumpkins! To help prevent shock, I sprinkled some Mycos that I had leftover from growing cannabis.

I then took them to work, and planted in separate pots, and left in the shade for the rest of the day. Now I can only hope they survive this traumatizing experience.

Fast forward to the next day....

They appear to be unarmed from the transplant! Hopefully I can get some fruit by Thanksgiving. Hopefully I get any fruit. If so I will collect the seeds, and plant them next year. After all this time, and effort, saving 2$ on seeds is going to be so worth it;)

One of the last remaining plants from the start of this journey has gave me a handful of Tomatoes. With some funky looking ones. Leaving me to wonder what kind of genetics is in this variety.

All that is left is is 1-2 tomatoes. By the time this is done, I will plant the new melons that I recently found in its spot.

The Habaneros are baring some peppers here, and there. This is also from the very start of this garden! This thing is almost as old as me, and has only grew a few inches, LOL

Which makes the sight of fruit even more enjoyable:)

One of the Squashes, that was found in the compost is growing bigger then I expected. Safe to say it is the same size as it was before I harvested! This is another question of whether it will bare anymore fruit?

The Yellow Watermelons are growing great! The corn mulch is doing its job, although it gets blown away easily. A little dirt on top does the trick.

What is funny is a Squash has grew out of the compost! These things are still growing. Now I know why they say to not put seeds in your compost, unless you want them to grow. I suppose at least they are not weeds.

I harvested some more Glass Corn. Even though I am a little less excited as before, the allure is still there.

I am also happy to get more mulch to lay. Especially since we have had constant 70 degree+ weather the past couple weeks.

Look at this ear! Out of all the variations, this has to be the most unique among all of them. What do you think?

Still trying to figure out a good use for these. I am defiantly saving the seeds to plant more next year. I wanted to make some popping corn, but I do not have enough to really do it with. I will be sending out more seed packs to those who wanted some. Just been busy, and keep on forgetting. But don't worry you all will get them before next spring.

So that is it for this update. My hopes are high that I will get fruit out of all the melons. The Pumpkin however is iffy. But if I do get some big bright orange melons come Thanksgiving, that will be pretty amazing. It sure will be fun trying, and seeing what I can actually do with this weather. I also have been gifted some Garlic Bulbs, but not sure if I should plant them or not. What would you recommend? Keep in mind that it does not frost, only in rare circumstances. The ground defiantly does not freeze. Looking forward to your thoughts:)

Hahaha now you've given me an earworm for the day. Hilarious. ONce that song is in your repertoire it never leaves you. You cant start a sentence with 'I like big..........' without breaking into song.

I totally love self seeded plants. What a mystery! What will they be?

Love your gardening efforts. Nailing it. And I have a feeling next year will be bigger and better - with bigger butt tomatoes.

That’s exactly what I was wanting the reader to do;) thanks for checking out my post. I’ll be contributing to the Garden blog since i will just see what I can get to grow this part of the season can’t hurt to try :)

That's some funky looking corn

Big time!

Whether it is corn, where can I get the seedlings, it is very unique
