June Journal

Unlike last year, this year is milder, at least in terms of temperature. We had temperatures around 32-34 degrees for 2-3 days, but today a cool down arrived and the temperature dropped to 19.
We were mostly looking to get some work done in the garden before this announced rain and refreshment. We pulled out all the garlic, the June sun was starting to dry it out too much.

Our two young sweet cherry trees have produced just enough for our son to enjoy. They are young, this is the second crop, although last year the frost killed the sweet cherry blossoms. Not to confuse Sour cherry, I have 17 trees and half of them bear fruit.

In our chamomile garden we also found a few wild poppies. I remember when we were little they used to scare us not to touch or smell a wild poppy flower because it would give us a headache. Which of course is not true at all. But probably our parents wanted to scare us not to touch anything.
Wild poppy is both medicinal and useful but should be used with caution. Unlike its relative, the opium poppy, the poppy is not addictive because it contains much weaker and different alkaloids.

We were a little late with one part of our peppers, so we went into June with planting, then we waited for our neighbor to come and tidy up part of the garden with a tiller.

We planned to put some of the peppers under foil, but we quickly gave up and just installed irrigation hoses.

We had a lot of work ahead of us, there were over 200 pieces of pepper just to plant now.

We immediately prepared to add organic fertilizer. And we had to take a break to rest.

So dusk and night came. But we were ready for that too. I stretched out the cables and set up the spotlights. Because nothing can surprise our.

20260606_221456.jpgI can tell you that it is much easier to work at night when the temperature drops, it gets cooler, there is no evaporation and the mosquitoes are gone. Just good lighting and the problem is solved. The work lasted until almost midnight. That was Saturday night, the next day we rested and slept well :)

Radishes are bearing well this year, this is 2-3 harvests from the second planting.

A wife planted ivy in one part of our wooden fence. Last year, it struggled during the dry season, but this year it started growing very well. The only thing we have to pay a little attention to is that it is poisonous to humans and pets if swallowed. So we are educating our son not to touch this plant. I am very happy that my son asks about a plant himself whether it is good or bad, he thinks about whether it is poisonous or not. If he is not sure.

I have a doubt about a plant, it grows in our garden near the mint. My wife got it as a gift. And no one is sure what it's called, it has some local name but it doesn't help. In my search I found that it might be buttonbush but I'm not 100% sure. So if anyone knows more?

A beer and a cider is well deserved after such hard work. Gardening at night is fun - I used to like weeding at night!
