Why I cultivate cassava in my farm part one

in HiveGardenlast year

Cassava is plant with wide discussion, many usages. Let’s take a walk.

Welcome to my farm.
Note: All images used are mine and originally taken from my cassava farming activities.

I started planting cassavas long time ago with my dad, it formed part of our diet in those days. When i was a kid, I thought that cassava was just for human consumption; I didn’t know that this plant is filled with many economic importance.

Now that my dad is late, I cherish those memories and the times we spent together farming our land.

Because of my early exposure to gardening and farming in general, it has become a hobby for me.

I’ll take some times to share with you things that I’ve discovered about cassava plant. In every farming season, I produce up to 30 tons of cassava tubas.

My farm is unique in my community because of extra efforts that I put in taking care of my plants. I do not apply fertilizers to my cassava farm; I prefer using compost manure instead. Using fertilizers makes cassava to go rotten inside the ground before harvest time, besides, making compost manure is free and cheap. Maybe we can talk about that in one of our discussions.

Some allows their cassava for two years before harvesting them, but I harvest mine in 6 months, and some in 1 year depending on the specie. I have some of the best species in my farm.

In my coming posts, I’ll go further in explaining to you what I do with all those cassavas produced in my farm. Obviously, i do not eat all of them, it’s a raw material that can be applied to many other products.

Thanks for reading. I’ll be back shortly.

What a huge harvest, filling that pick up truck with cassava shows you have a really large farmland. And using natural compost instead of fertilizers is usually the best method. Do you use labor to do some parts of your cassava farm work?

I invite you to share any green plants images on Threads and have fun with us. The tag to use or check out is #greentuesday Just share a picture, an idea or anything relating to farm and plants. @riverflows and other friends including me would be happy to see your threads.

Thanks for your help and encouragement. Yes I have workers that I pay; some I pay with crypto like Bitcoin Cash and Hive. Farming isn’t best doing alone.

For the green pictures, trust! I have them because I’ve gone green already.

Damn bud, you are doing well. This is huge.
I started farming last year. I will say I have garnered a lot of experiences despite the fact it didn't go well. Hopefully this year will be fruitful.

Oh, I’m sorry it didn’t go so well last year, but I’m happy to see how courageous and optimistic you’re concerning your forthcoming farming activities; that’s the spirit!

I admit to the fact that we learn every time, and we gain experience at each exposure.

Thanks so much @maxwellmarcusart for coming around. I appreciate the support too.

Yeah, we keep pushing despite the challenges.

yup. Cassava is one of my fav food in the childhood. We grew it a lot and it became our main food for a day hehe.

Same with me. I grew up in a small family, we didn’t have money, but we’re trained on how to survive hardship and difficult conditions. Now those trainings has formed my stepping stones these days. Thanks for identifying with me.

Hey! Difficulty makes extraodainary breakthrough. You have your own land, it is the unique thing, you know. In our country, it is so so difficult to have the land to cultivate because the cost for owning a land is so expensive.

Same here, I bought farm lands, nevertheless, I still lease many to enable my scale in farming.

I have so much obligation; one is to stay a watchdog on food-security in my community. Many people depends on my farming activities for their daily bread etc.
