Hello community, I will share my garden activities... I hope you enjoy my posts...

This afternoon in our village, the air is clear, with a warm breeze occasionally stifling. However, the air is generally cool, as our village is located in the mountainous region of the Gayo Highlands. Some areas are also covered in dark clouds, perhaps overcast. This is the climate in our area; sometimes, even when the weather looks hot, a light drizzle can suddenly appear.

As the old saying goes, that's the weather in the highlands: it's difficult to predict. This is especially true when the transitional season arrives, as the change in seasons can sometimes leave farmers confused about what crops to plant. However, if we enter September or October, this is the ideal season for planting. Since it's the rainy season, the natural supply of rainwater can water the plants.

Just like our family, since last August, we have been preparing the land for planting chilies. This afternoon, my wife and I went to the chili garden located next to the village, not far from my in-laws' house. The chili garden is spacious, about 20x80 square meters, and can accommodate hundreds of chili seedlings. These chilies have been planted since August, and they're now starting to bear fruit and will soon be harvested.

We came to the garden to pick some chilies that were starting to turn red, which we'll use for cooking spices. However, if picking them for sale, it's best to pick them when they're still green, or slightly red, not completely red. Chilies picked when they're not red will last longer and be easier to sell at the market. The chilies grown in this garden also include nano chilies and panca chilies.

These two types of chilies are varieties of cayenne pepper, a type of chili with a spicy flavor. They are often processed to add heat to spices, such as sauces. Nano chilies are white with wide stems and tall stalks. When ripe, the chilies turn orange and deep red.

Nano chilies are oval and long, and white in color, with a wider base. Meanwhile, panca chilies are green, almost the same color as cayenne peppers. The five-leaf chili has a shorter stem and a stem that isn't very wide. It grows with spreading leaves, and each stem grows flowers and fruit that branch out.

Some chili plants appear curly, due to irregular fertilization. As you can see, the area where the chili plants are planted has mounds, each covered with plastic. This plastic prevents weeds from growing, which can interfere with the chili plants' growth. Therefore, the plastic is very effective in maintaining the chili plants' growth and eliminating the growth of weeds.

Meanwhile, each mound has a groove in the soil. This allows water to drain, preventing water from pooling in the chili plants even during the rainy season. Prolonged exposure to rainwater can cause the chili plants to rot and die. Meanwhile, poles made from split bamboo are embedded in each chili plant's trunk. These poles support the chili plants so they don't fall over. Once they have fruited and grown tall, the chili plants can become brittle and easily fall over or break in the wind.

Several plastic ropes were also tied to the tree trunks to strengthen them and prevent them from breaking easily. This garden uses organic fertilizer, coffee husks, for fertilization. Coffee husks, or cascara, are readily available from coffee farmers and coffee processing warehouses. According to ancients, coffee husk waste is excellent for soil fertility, moisture, and the development of beneficial microorganisms for plants.

By midday, we had been picking red chilies, sorting them from several trees. We specifically selected the red ones, as they can be directly processed into cooking spices.

I imagine the cool highland breeze and the sudden drizzles, weather in the mountains is unpredictable. Your chili is very nice. Harvesting red chilies for cooking while keeping the green ones for selling in practical farmers wisdom.

Wow, your chili garden looks amazing. I love how detailed you shared the planting and harvesting process.

Thank you for your feedback. I hope it will be useful for our insight...

Used in cooking or you just sell it. Chili's are not also for food but a life saver. When you sell it, it can buy your other needs. People are incomplete without Chili's.
