It's the first day of Spring here in Australia, and there's a wind up - the blossoms are flying everywhere and the chicken's feathers are fluttering in the northerly. I imagine on the other side of the world, the leaves are turning and the harvest is in full force.

  • We've moved residency on HIVE to the Hive Garden community, so for this month's challenge, please post your entries there.

  • Enter as many times as you like during the week, which ends September 7th.

  • Tag two others you'd like to join in.

  • Reblogs appreciated but not necessary

  • Use the tag #gardenjournal and any other tag you think is appropriate

  • Would love you to use the footer at the bottom of your post! I can change the image for you and the front end address to whatever you like for a small HIVE donation for my time.

  • Garden selfies are appreciated!

Thanks to @shanibeer, @simplymike, @amberyooper and @edprivat for their donations that keep the challenge going. Along with my 10 HIVE contribution this week, the total offered is 25 HIVE! If you'd like to sponsor, please let me know!

If you'd like to be reminded, or have your name removed from this list, please let me know.

Oh gosh - it's a bum - or a heart!

I am happy you also saw the bum!!!

Lovely 😍

Hey @shanibeer, thanks so much :)

I have so many butternuts, 600 lbs of potatoes, and for the first time in my life, watermelons, you bet I am gonna participate!

Omg - that's your winter stews sorted! I've never had luck with watermelons - I'm going to live vicariously through yours! Also, melon selfie, please.

Omg - that's your winter stews sorted!

Yeah, I probably will give half of it away, the kids are already complaining about potatoes, I don't think it's healthy everyday also hahaha.

My watermelons are the size of melons. I've be brushing potatoes for few hours, it's almost feel like a punishment 😁

I couldn't do the selfie with the watermelon as it was raining, I might do my post tonight and add the pic later!

I look forward to the shot of your head next to 600 pounds of potatoes.

I am not done harvesting, maybe the end of the week if I don't stop. Im tired!!! And I don't have enough boxes!!! Heeeeeeelp

I wish you deep and restful sleeps. You've got this. Boxes will come to you. Got any laundry bags? One of those babies could hold 100 pounds. I wish I could help, but I'm packing!!!

we are using blankets, because they need to stay in the dark; Good idea for the laundry bag, I might just go get few extra boxes!

Cheers!

600 pounds of spuds, it's a good thing that there're about 100 different ways to prepare them. With all of the veggies you are producing, you could feed a few more kids. 😁

you could feed a few more kids. 😁

I wouldn't mind a bunch of kids to help me dig them up too, because mine gave up the first day haha 😁. I can pay everyone in potato now...

The way the United States is printing greenbacks, potatoes may be of more value than the dollar very soon.
Kids do have a way of jumping around from one thing to the next.
We have a standing joke here at the farm, when we think we have found something that will entertain the little ones, we say, that should keep them busy for five minutes.

potatoes may be of more value than the dollar very soon.

That's a good one hahaha.

that should keep them busy for five minutes.

Hahaha you're on fire today 🙃

The truth is funny stuff sometimes.

My garden is a sad panda, covered in rubble and mud, but when the zombie apocalypse comes I will provide the meat, you my friend shall provide the potatoes 😁

My garden is a sad panda,

That's the type of thing I want written on my t shirt.

I will provide the meat

I know where you meat will come from, and it's a no for me 😁 (there were few innuendos possible, I thought of a cannibal joke also, but I went for the classic meatnuendo)

That's one heck of a potato harvest!

Hell yeah brother!
Good to see ya around :)

Hi River.

Thanks so much for tagging me, I would have loved to participate again this month, however I've moved out of the house I was growing veggies at and currently staying elsewhere (with no veggies in the garden :( Unfortunately you sometimes have to sacrifice these things for the greater good.

I will however watch this space for all the wonderful posts that are bound to come through showing awesome harvests and exciting start ups for the upcoming season. It will keep me motivated in my heart (also looking forward to the selfies as always lol)

Have a beautiful day.

Hi there I'm busy with my vertical vegetable garden. If you move you can take it with you and in the winter you can hang it in your window. (Is the idea) I think its nearly perfect now.

https://ecency.com/greendeliverence/@greendeliverence/bottled-plants

So wherever you go you can take your garden with you. 😇

Also way less bugs less water usage and if you have a garden you can have more hanging around less work. Instead on your knees just stand and prune so better for your back and you have more hygienic ground with less bugs.. but... but..

The main thing is you can take it everywhere even in a hotel room 😂🤣😂🤣😂

Hi Hans

Thanks so much for your comment, your vertical garden looks really healthy. I have done something similar previously with a trellis system and hanging pots and they work well. I think that my current situation won't really allow for much gardening, we will see what transpires, but that you very much for the encouragement and sharing your garden :)

I hope your situation changes very soon. 😊 Good luck.

That vertical gardenlooks pretty awesome!

Thanks I will make a howto soon. 😇

Oh thanks for saying so - Iris, I do hope you get a garden soon, and maybe even you can post on botanical gardens or other people's gardens! It doesn't have to be your own - sharing about gardens is really what we all love! And yes, selfies - don't you just love them?

Ooh there's a great idea River, I think there's a botanical garden close by here which I would love to visit. Just waiting for a warmer weather day and that could be a great adventure :) Thank you for the suggestion.

Ha ha, I got my time of the month all wrong, and posted a few days ago 😂

If its within a few days you can still enter honey!

This is awesome, it sucks I cant be as active as I would like but thanks to all you that wanna support the garden community here on hive.

No worries, plenty willing to help out if you let us!

Looking forward to seeing what everybody has going on in their gardens.

I have some flowers and buds in my small pots now. We stay in an apartment where it is not possible to have a big garden but I am trying to plant and grow as much as I can. Will share the pictures, it's a nice way to celebrate nature.

Hive Garden is a good idea!!! Hey, my green fingered brother @craigcryptoking! How about your very own #gardenjournal post?

@craigcryptoking oh yes do!

@buckaroobaby I am hoping that our enthusiasm will inject some fertiliser into the Hive Garden community, and see it grow solidly. I know @skylinebuds is busy in real life at the moment, but I'm going to poke him with my garden fork to get this baby to grow.

So soon! It will be my last garden challenge for this property. I'm on it!

Hey that link to the Hive Garden community doesn't work.

Because i was too busy in garden to put it in lol

Every month, I intend to just begin my post, and to putter away at it for a day or two before publishing it. and every month I sit here for a few hours and put the whole thing together.

Here is my early September garden journal entry.

much love to you all

Happy Spring! That only means autumn will be here soon!!!

Hoping to carve out some time to get a wee little post up soon! Would hate to miss the monthly fun!

I guess I'll have to go take some pictures of my gardens tomorrow so I have a post for this. 😃

Put me down for 10 hive for the contest winner.
Don't consider me for a prize, no point in getting my hive back after I contribute.
I'll send them to you.

Fabulous, you're awesome!

Made a present for you for being early @nikv!

Ooh, thank you!

Good day @riverflows. This should be a good month for gardeners across the Northeastern USA. It's harvest time here and it's been a good year. Not great, too much rain, not enough sun. There have been triumphs and failures here on our farm. Tomatoes , blueberries and kohlrabi , excellent.
Carrots, just awful. It's the way it goes, mother nature will always trump any of our efforts.
Looking forward to everyone's journals.
Have a wonderful day my friend.

Carrots, just awful.

Same here, and so late also for some reason.

Did you guys make blueberry pies?

I haven't had time to do the baking yet, still so much to harvest and process, but rest assure, that is on the menu. It's my hubby's fav, he doesn't get a birthday cake, he gets blueberry pie, made from scratch, so yummy.
Now wtf are you going to do with 600 lbs. of potatoes? Do you sell to a market? Give them to a food bank? I mean we grew 105 lbs. last year and had to share with family and friends. I still have some in mashed form in the freezer now from last year. Hope you have a plan cuz that is an amazing amount of spuds.
Kudos bro, you have a gift. Farmer, artist, musician, daddy, hubby, phew! You must do a happy dance everyday.
Blessings my friend.

Good morning @riverflows, it's morning here so it must be morning everywhere else. 😁 I would love to add a footer to my garden journals and if you could find the time to put one together for me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Sure! Is there a particular photo you'd like?

Sure, how about this one.

@thebigsweed Here are a couple of variations for you. Please let me know if you want to swap out anything - it's no trouble for you! I wasn't sure if carrots were rubbing salt in the wound - but they made a good outline - I didn't mean to have a 'dig'. :)

Thanks a million my friend, they both look great! The one with the carrots with the www.peakd.com is my choice, and whenever I use it I'll have a good belly laugh.
I know that @farm-mom got back to you as confusion was running rampant at the farm with us trying to figure out who got what, when, and why.
All I know now is that I'll be using the footer proudly on all future garden journals!
Thanks again!

Awesome, and thanks for your donation to the challenge as well! I think we might have a special 'Big Carrot' prize next week in your honour! I'm glad you got a smile out of it.

Please add my name to your list. Thanks!

Sure, will do!

Hello Garden Journallers, I look forward to reading your posts 😍.
Here's my monthly catch up from the Middle Lands of England.

 3 years ago (edited)

@riverflows I would like a footer, please. Can you make it with this image with the focus on the flower itself? I also want it to say Peakd as the front end.

@proto26 I hope this suits? Please let me know if there is anything you'd like to change.

Hi riverflows,
I'd like to be on the list of people getting reminded, when the next contest starts. I just found out about it and am a bit sad, I didn't discover it sooner, because our season ends in a couple of weeks.
But October is still a good month to enter.
